StriderHiryu Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Poor defending cost us any chance in this game. Can't concede 4 with 2 from set pieces. Even for Lukaku's first he got in between both our centre halfs. Anyway still showed fight and we were definitely playing with Champions League in mind. Let's see what we can do there!
EGBFitness Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Flat performance but maybe we played with less energy for a reason? Wasnt bothered about the result before the game so not going to lose sleep about it. Disappointing to get ourselves into the lead but lose and to concede twice from corners. All smoke screens for Madrid.

They scored twice! It's hardly a massive turn around in the score. It's not like we were winning 2-0 and you came back and were losing 4-2. Calm down
The Horse's Mouth Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 just the nature of the goals we conceded is the one that irked me, the result today wasn't a huge issue for me.
foxes21 Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Happy we rested some key players. But seriously what are Amartey's strengths? He can only pass two yards which immediately puts the player he passed to under pressure, loses concentration and doesn't have a very good footballing brain. Not the qualities you want at RB, CB or CM. Loan to the championship next season for game time and development. Our second string defence is just very average in general. Need to strengths in that department in the summer.

Ulloa had more of an impact than Mahrez and Musa though. he wants out and so no point starting him over Slimani who will be here next season and needs game time and is a better goal scorer, Ulloa has always been a great impact striker, even from last season but he was always found out when he started and wasn't composed enough in front of goal. I do wish Slimani was able to win flick ons as well as Ulloa Ulloa was very close to goal how can you possibly say Slim would have scored that chance? I still believe Ulloa can easily match Slims attributes at a fraction of the cost So recoup some money on Slim and keep Leonardo as the only reason he want's out is he can't get a game.

Slim Dog Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Slimani scores his chances, Ulloa misses them. Ulloa>Slimani.

Foxxed Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 I'm still not sure why we played Vardy. Fair enough if he's saving himself for Athletico - but then why not play Musa from the start?

A bit miffed to be honest. Momentum is everything for this team and you just chucked it away. I woukd have preffered to play the A team and keep the momentum for the Madrid game. More proof that the B team Ranieri assembled is no where near quality enough for this league. I hope you're wrong, although a good part of me fears you're right.

Agreed. I thought we may lose. Everton have been very good at home and they have some quality players in attack. The way we conceded was far too easy though and Benny has to do better. Worrying for Wednesday but hopefully we will see a lot more energy and N'didi will make a big difference

ARTY_FOX Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Not bothered about this game. On to Madrid where it counts

It was mostly tongue in cheek but the point stands. Ulloa also gets to play against tired legs with Mahrez whipping the ball on his head.

Dan Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Disagree with the OP saying it was unwinnable. We were leading the game. Which leads me onto saying that's our first points dropped from a winning position all season. Thought it was a poor performance but not massively surprised, think we took a risk or two too many today and it backfired. But I can sympathise, losing today won't relegate us and we've got one of the biggest games in our history on Wednesday, so totally agree with throwing some eggs into that basket. Saying that, if we produce a similar defensive display on Wednesday then we will be annihilated. In-particular set pieces, a renowned strength of Atletico's, we dealt with pretty terribly today. Said in the match thread Albrighton was our best player but was met with a lot of disagreement. My case really was that he was our most involved player and not a single other player, other than arguably Schmeichel (can't blame him for any goal and that save from Barkley was outstanding), really had a good game. Poor but Wednesday was the big one, and always was. Some issues to iron out but I've not lost faith in this team.
Devonfox1884 Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 King, Amartey and Chilwell were all shocking. Chilwell and Amartey improved a little second half in fairness.

Aside from his link-up play, defensive work and the fact that he and Vardy didn't get any decent ball/cross in 80 minutes, I can almost agree with you.
eastendfox Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Strength in depth shown up a bit today - Benny has done well but had a mare, Drinkwater should have had a rest, but we're short at centre midfield and right back. But Everton's home form is impressive, even with a full team I think best we'd do is a point.
HoustonFox Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 I don't feel as disappointed as a I normally do after a loss, must be that Atletico game on the horizon. Not a lot of people giving a very good Everton side any credit on here. They are the top scorers in 2017, they had won 6 in row at home and Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the league. Some talking points: Demarai passed it to set up a goal! Great finish by Slim too Amartey is not a RB. Makes Danny S look like Cafu King / Drinkwater combo is not a match - they are too similar. We need some legs and drive in the middle with the other Benny needs to be told to chill a bit more. Think some good performances have got him a wee bit over confident Bobby Madeley really hates us - some pretty poor decisions against us today. Focus is on Champs league - we have some winnable games in the league so I think eyes and minds were on Wednesday

Webbo Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 When we were level/in front, I thought Slimani was good, plenty of effort, tracking back, took hi goal well (I know we were 1 down when he scored). After we went behind he seemed to go missing, I barely noticed him.
