Sky Sports reporting that Man City will sign Ryan Bertrand instead of paying £40m for Mendy. Strange one. Bertrand is not a bad player by any means but hardly a top class LB.

Man City want Bertrand and Mendy..

They're hardly going to say "oh, just have him for a fiver."

He might not be worth that generally speaking but it's what he's worth to them, especially given they don't have to sell.

I think we're going to see a few really interesting years of transfer windows over the next few seasons because the balance of power is currently shifting way back towards the clubs. They're getting such insane revenue now from all these new TV deals that a player holding a club to ransom is going to get rarer and rarer.

Everton really don't need to sell him, especially not for cheap, and the other side of the coin is they know Chelsea can afford that.

On the radio tonight someone pointed out a World Cup year coming up means clubs are even stronger. Player wants move. Club refuse to sell. Player had to keep performing to make the World Cup squad

Finished 8th and got to a cup final..

17 points less than last season, no European qualification, boring negative football.

I'd just sack him for that, when you've got a decent squad like they have there's absolutely no need to place so much emphasis on trying to keep out the opposition.

This transfer window is definitely getting beyond ridiculous and it's not even officially open yet

Hector Bellerin "agrees terms" to move to Barcelona

Arsenal apparently want £50 million for him

Southampton one is a funny one, like some have said a top 10 finish and cup final but then less points than last season and unattractive football.

Maybe they have been fortunate and had managers who have over-performed? Can't be an easy job when you constantly get your team sold off with little reinvested back into the team.

There is no way the club can continue to constantly selling but expect progressive success.

Liverpool to start negotiations for Gelson Martins:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2714159-liverpool-transfer-news-gelson-martins-bid-reportedly-to-be-made-fresh-rumours

If true, it can be a 50M€ transfer.

Some news says Sporting is willing to negotiate because needs money, but that isn't true.

Sporting is selling Ruben Semedo to Villareal for 15M€, received a couple millions from Bruma transfer, and some more from some worst/weak players. All told, Sporting already made almost 20M, which is enough to cover next season budget deficit.

And this last season made a good profit [Slimani + João Mário transfers].

So Martins is 45-50M if the reds/Klopp really wants him.

Interesting. So I take it Adrien Silva is unlikely to be allowed to leave then?

Seems like a lot of Sporting players are being targeted this window.

Sporting selling all their players?

No.

Semedo is 22y center back from Sporting famous academy.

In 2015-2016 season he was given on loan to a portuguese mid tier Liga NOS team, to gain experience. Folowing several injuries,yellow/red cards etc in Sporting center back's and poor peformance from the center back lad [Tobias Figueired] coming from academy that stayed in Sporting first team, Ruben Semedo was called back in 2015-2016 mid season and he did some good games, good enough to made himself a starter.

For most of 2016-2017 season he was starter in center back, but in some games he did some mistakes that cost some goals.

Is a bit mentallity inconstant and lack some brains.

He has every attibute it needs to be a world class center back and sometimes he play's like that but also sometimes he makes childish mistakes.

I believe Jesus [Sporting manager] doesn't trust him as before and he wouldn't be a starter this season, bringing is value down. So Sporting sold him for 14M + 20% of a future transfer fee [i saw the tranfer official statement minutes ago].

Also, Sporting CP supporters groups [Juventude Leonina, Directivo XXI, etc] right now are against Ruben Semedo.

Semedo is a known benfica fan/supporter, and supposedly [internet/social network's rumour] he said he was going to benfica Primeira liga champions party/celebration.

This is worst than a Leicester City FC player saying he was partying and go to the celebrations of nottingham forest if they were Premier League champions.... Leicester - Nottingham have big rivalry, but Sporting - benfica stadiums is separated only by a mile and both are always in dispute of champions title in portuguese Liga.

I don't believe Semedo really said that, but those cvnts from supporters groups believed and in the last game of the season they whistling him and wished 'Bon Voyage':

eehfpB8.jpg

So Sporting sold Semedo.

He can become a world class center back - at his age [22y] Ricardo Carvalho [remember him from Chelsea?] was playing in Setubal - same club that Semedo was on a loan 1 year and half ago....

Or not.

Sporting keeping that 20% of a future transfer is a compensation if he really improves and go to a top Club.

...

Bruma is a player Sporting sold a few seasons ago.

Sporting will receive 1.8-2 M €, from a small % of the millions the turkish Club will receive for is transfer to RB Leipiz + youth/formation compensation.

...

Sporting also sold Heidi Sacko for 2M € to Leeds United..

Sporting paid for him 1.5M 3 years ago, as an investment in a good youngster [19y at time], but he only played a couple minutes in Sporting first team.

He was on loan in Leeds United last season and Leeds agree few days ago to pay 2M for him.

.............

All told makes +/-18M€.

Sporting still have to sell some players [Luc Castaignos, ..] that bought last season or in previous seasons that dont play in first team, they're not good enough. Thats more 2-4 Million €.

Making 18-20M€ is enough to cover next season budget deficit.

And Sporting only sold a first team player, Semedo, that in next season wouldn't be a starter.

This puts Sporting in a position that doesn't need to sell any of his best players - Patricio, Martins, Carvalho, Silva, Bas Dost.

So doesn't need to sell cheap.

But 45-50M € for Martins isn't cheap, it's a fair price - in my opinion, of course.

His release clause is 60 Million €

Seems like a lot of Sporting players are being targeted this window.

Silva can leave for 25-30M if it was promised to him last season [when Leicester City wanted him] that he could be transfered in this [2017] summer.

Last season Slimani was sold to Leicester City because he had a promise that he could go for a fair price. A fair price for Slimani was +/-30M, and I believe a fair price for Silva in that terms is 25-30M.

Otherwise Silva only will be sold for 35-40M, and I don't know if any Club will pay that. Release clause is 45M.

.................

Sporting have one of the most famous football academy in the world - you could say that only Ajax or Barcelona is at least as good or better 'making' football players.

A year ago among the Portugal Euro 2016 champions team, 11 players were 'made' in Sporting, almost all of them starters in Portugal team, and 4 of them were at Sporting [after Euro 2016 Sporting sold João Mario, so now is only 3].

So Sporting is used to have a lot of players being targeted in all transfer windows.

Last season was Slimani, Silva, Carvalho and João Mario the most targeted.

João Mário and Slimani was transfered, Sporting received 70M € for both.

This season will be Martins, Silva and Carvalho the most targeted [Bas Dost also, but this one only goes for 60M, his release clause].

Sporting already made almost 20M [see previous post], so only sells again if wants, for a very good fee. Or if it was promised to Silva a tranfer for a fair price [25-30M].

Astonishing that Liverpool have had to pull out of the van dijk transfer rather than risk being done for an illegal approach

evidently it was all agreed between the player and Liverpool and they were prepared to meet Soton's valuation

and we think we have problems here!

klopp must be spitting feathers

Well, if Liverpool approach a player under contract at another club without contacting said club, then what do you expect?

Peace, love & harmony?

Thanks! Great to get some insight from the other side. You do always hear about players coming through SCP's ranks and making a pretty good career from it, so I'm not surprised your academy is so highly rated. Must be tough always losing so many players.

Really hope we get Silva. He looks decent.

It was never going to end well, was it? I actually think Van Dijk is the one who has screwed this up though.

Liverpool should never have done it this way, but Van Dijk publicly saying he prefers Liverpool forced Southampton's hand. Really stupid.
