Whist I agree that all should strive for correct grammar/spelling I'm not sure highlighting people's errors is the kindest way to go.  Should dyslexic people be ashamed of themselves?  Or people that were never tauight to read or right properly?  None of us is good at everything, knowledge should be shared not used to poke fun.  X

I  wasn't aware I was poking fun. I was pointing out an inaccuracy. And yes I saw your deliberate mistake.

Said it before and I'll say it again, I ignore virtually all writing errors now. For some reason the word 'literally' being used wrongly annoys me. I accept that to be my problem, even if I happen to be correct.

By pedant, you mean 'someone who gets hacked off at people misusing language.' Offended? No. Opinions are fine, but here's a fact - this isn't a good use of the word literally, and it happens all the time. Words become meaningless eventually when misunderstood, this is a case in point.

Sorry, 'Bakayoko is very much stealing a living' ;)

Och, I don't disagree with you I just think it sometimes comes across as annoying.  My Granddad never learned to read or write properly (being poor) and whenever I see a mistake and feel the grammar Nazi part of me stirring I just imagine it's my Granddad and suddenly I realise I'm the d1ck, not them. X

I was like that with my old man ...  used to go on about his smoking and how bad it was for him ...  till he told me one day that he started when he was on the atlantic convoys during the war and there wasn't much else to do ....    apart from wonder if it was going to be your last.   Shut me right up.   Never mentioned it again.

Aye, my other Granddad actually died about a year ago from cancer (he suffered for 30 plus years with it).  Worst thing that's happened in my life so far.  Makes me angry that when he started they were given away to him as some sort of "good for your health" bit of fun if you enlisted.  Never even realised they were bad for him until they took his voicebox.  The government should compensate people who started before a certain date.  It's always easy to judge but usually there is context to every story.

Anyway, I am digressing but I'm glad he made it to see us win the league.  Football eh, it's a funny old game. X

My granddad (who was a mounted policeman in Glasgow) didn't have to worry about smoking as he was mustard gassed in WW1 and died of it in his 40's leaving 6 kids ...

Digressing like mad !! ...   up the blue boys !!

Ultra pedant HighPeakFox was probably taking offence at the use of ‘literally’.

Funny, I could never picture him as an ultra.

To digress further.......are you from Glasgow originally?  I've lived up in Scotland for 10 years, Glasgow for 4.  :)

No precise idea what Mr. Ekekwe is trying to say, but it‘s supposed to be about West Ham, but then turns into a general racial thing - at least that‘s how I am reading it:

This use of the word is actually correct as long as it is used informally, I understand this may not be agreeable to you but it's quite literally in the dictionary.

It may not be a correct use of the word but it could be a good use of it.

Well, there you go. But I'm clearly not a proper pedant, because I'm not in uproar :)

Literally is now in the dictionary as a form of saying something figuratively? Fvck me.
