bpfox Posted 9 May 2017 Posted 9 May 2017 have really enjoyed watching mahrez, maybe not so much this year however. he has come across as a suck this year he does not seem to have any drive or want to fight to keep the ball and the amount of times he has just passed the ball to some one in a worst spot just shows he does not seem interested. would be sad to see him go but if he wants to stay then he needs to lift his effort by 70%.
filbertway Posted 9 May 2017 Posted 9 May 2017 Not too fussed if we do lose Mahrez to be honest. Let me say, he's clearly, CLEARLY an incredibly talented footballer and technically the best I've ever seen at Leicester. I'm not sure he's suited to us now. Unless we have a change of direction and bring in talented footballers to help him out, he's not much use to us and we're not much use to him. As good as he is, both parties would probably be better off parting ways if we want to remain playing our current way. Unless he was to put in some serious effort inthe gym and get himself some Messi or Hazard style leg power, I don't see how he's going to magically be able to deal with 2 or 3 players swarming around him.

Nothing worse than seeing a player sucking on the pitch!

That's what I'm saying every team needs a balance of players, an Mahrez is the most technically gifted player to grace the club in the last 20 years, likewise a team full of Mahrez's wouldn't work either, especially with our non possession style of play.

You see there is the dilemma, in your last paragraph....he is was/IS part of our current way, so Replacing him, cancels out....."that current way...??? ...or not ) "

I know his body language may suggest that at times, but I think it's more down to his frustration at not producing his best. I've read a few posts suggesting he wants away but I've yet to see or hear any evidence that this is true. Unless someone can prove otherwise, I'm not buying it. Maybe he's actually really happy here and wants to stay? I don't think he wants away and I also think he is very happy here ... and he's not actively looking at other clubs ... BUT .... the interest comes in from a BIG club , the media whips it up, the player becomes unsettled, Shakey says he's going nowhere, the player says he doesn't really want to leave, the media whips it up more, the offer comes in, Mahrez says he loves it here but has always dreamt of playing for *********, his agent walks around like a zombie with pound signs in his eyes ......... seen it too many times Muzzett ... lets hope no one really wants him.

Dames Posted 9 May 2017 Posted 9 May 2017 Don't think he'll be going anywhere just yet. The price we will demand no-one will now pay as the lad needs to improve his composure and decision making before he's ready for a big club. I fully believe next season will probably be his best for us if he stays and he'll go in January/Summer of that season.

Schmeichel has the flair of Mahrez when kicking the ball out of his hands, those two are the ones that will be in demand this summer, so there are similarities between the two, even though a GK is a specialised position.
StriderHiryu Posted 9 May 2017 Posted 9 May 2017 Don't underestimate our owners role here. You can understand Riyad wanting to leave but our owners are ambitious and they don't want anyone good to leave. It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer as it would not surprise me if we break our transfer record again, possibly multiple times. If that happens I expect him to stay. My gut feeling is that Riyad and Kasper go, but both for big money and both to big clubs, which we fans won't begrudge. But I think we reinvest the money 1 for 1 and add to the team to remain competitive. Personally I hope we don't lose anyone from the starting 11, given what they've done for the club.

That's actually a very good point. Without any proper support in the midfield he's likely to reproduce the same season as this one. The opponent knows him now and has it way too easy to take him out of a game. As for him getting bulkier legs, I don't think it's a good idea. He already gained (a bit of) weight and his smooth playing style is based on shoulder drops, sudden turns and direction changes, not speed bursts. It will be destroyed if he gains any more muscle. He's fast enough to get rid of an opponent on a short distance and that's plenty. He just not have to run across 2/3 of the pitch to get near the box with three players at the neck. And work on his tricks palette as well as releasing the ball a bit earlier sometimes.

Agree with half your post. I think bringing a Sigurdsson into the team would unleash Mahrez even more so, it would be hard to swarm him then. I wouldn't want him to go in the gym to bulk up too much as he would lose the edge on that agility and his unique style/movement. He has a wirey strength about him so they could work on his power a bit without bulking him up. I hope he stays

Guest Danny Clender Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Telegraph via Skysports reporting Spurs interest in him. Whilst I know this report is dull and means nothing at all, the prospect of Eriksen, Ali and Mahrez behind Kane is a frightening thought.

foxfanazer Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 He's been a great player for us overall, almost certainly the most gifted technique wise we've ever had. I think he sees himself as bigger than the club so absolutely no point in forcing him to stay. Cash in and look to rebuild with players that see Leicester as a great place to play their football. If he goes I'd love to see Gray get a full season in his place

It doesn't seem to have been that effective. Let him go, and let Gray tear the league a new one. If your first point is true whoever sanctioned 30m for a play mate needs to be certified. Who's in charge of the club no player is that good we should she'll out 30m + wages on another player just to keep one happy.
