I'd take Drinkwater over Barkley any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

You'd take Cattermole over Cambiasso so your opinion on central midfielders is invalid, to be kind.

I honestly think us winning the league has kicked Everton into life.

With all the years they had spent hovering behind the top clubs, possibly believing it was beyond them. Then they all have an off season, we take advantage, and Everton were nowhere. I think they're fan base is a bit bitter anyway but that must have really hit home.

Well to begin with they play in two different positions, but I presume you think Barkley could play in a 2? He'd be a downgrade on Drinkwater in our system.

Don't forget Drinkwater was playing through injury last season.

Drinkwater has a better range of passing, more aggression, more stamina, better reading of the game, tackling, interceptions, better communicator on the pitch, better workrate off the ball, pressing, etc.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I think Barkley's beats Drinkwater in the highlighted areas, but you've only given a small amount of areas in which a top Prem midfielder should excell.

What position would be play Gylfi in then? We're signing Iheanacho to play off the striker. Sigurdsson can't play in a 2 yet people are keen to splurge 40m on him. I know that Barkley plays closer to the striker but I think he can play in a more central role and has done many times for club and country.  I personally feel that Barkley and Ndidi would complement each other nicely and that if the price was about 20-25m then we should be all over it. Barkley (as you can see from the link below) has similar attacking stats to Sigurdsson. But apparently it's double and Spurs are keen. That's Spurs with a midfield that pisses all over ours. Tells you something.

We also need another proven right back not an improvised one like Amartey . James did not play last season.

Agree we need another right back but at the minute it's Amarty and what's does James not playing last season have anything to do with this season coming up? He'll be in the squad most weeks.

He doesnt. His tight b**** of a first wife wouldnt let him have a second without divorcing her.  Got to admire a man willing to have crack at having 2 wives

This is spot on. There two very different players really. Barkley would be better behind the striker if he came here.

65 or 80. That would be 65 or 80 off 135. Type thing.

I always used to quite rate Barkley. Now id go nowhere near him to wear a City shirt. Sigurdsson (I can never spell that) is head and shoulders above Barkley and if Everton suggested swapping Drinky for Barkley is laff in their faces.

There's no chance of that happening.

Assuming Iheanacho is a done deal where would Sigurdsson play? Unless maybe we go 343

If Iborra starts then even Drinkwater won't get a game. Ndidi must be a banker to start.

Mahrez goes we need a like for like. But as it is we are probably looking at.

Mahrez.  Ndidi.  Iborra.  Albrighton.

                 Iheanacho

                  Vardy

That's the point. You can't leave an on form Riyad out of the starting line up but unless he plays wide he isn't so effective. restricts us to playing a certain way. Ironically, No Riyad means more choice for us.

Everton look to be doing great business and your post smacks of envy.

I don't think I'd disagree with any of their buys so far this summer. Even old Rooney will give them a different option.

Its an exciting time to be an Everton fan.

Maybe you're right Col, but I'm not an Everton fan so I'm not excited. I'm certainly not envious over the signing of Rooney. A player with fabulous history but also a player with a lot of baggage, a very high wage and one who has lost a key attribute to his previous outstanding self - his pace. Also one who will expect to play week in week out whether in form or not. I would've been happy to see us get Sigurdsson and Keane and so yeh I'm envious about those two to an extent but not massively as I like Maguire and we have James back as well as Iborra and Iheanacho arriving. I'm not so fussed with Everton's other signings (including Pickford.) I also stand by my thought that buying a whole raft of players can bring problems and I certainly wouldn't want us to do that.

Fair point i agree with you on Riyad. But where does Sigurdsson fit in? Surely it was Iheanacho or Sigurdsson can't see how we could start with both.

How Everton are thinking they will manage it I haven't got a clue but it looks like they just want to buy everyone. Like a upper mid table Galactico squad. Which suggests to me Walsh doesn't have that much of a say there anymore.

Ah. Fair enough that mate. Good post.

I'm with you generally on Rooney..i just have a feeling once he's out of the spotlight a little (as in, no longer at Man Utd) he's probably going to have a great season!

Not that I think he should have come to Leicester..i dont.

I agree, I was watching Sky Sports News yesterday and I can't think for the life of me who they were interviewing, It was a well know ex player, I wanna say Duncan Ferguson or Kevin Campbell but I don't think it was, they basically cried saying "Leicester won the league, why can't we?!".

I had a chuckle to say the least.

I think we pissed off sides that like the pretend they're big clubs like Spurs, West Ham and Everton more than the actual big clubs when we won the league.

And even more so those yo yo clubs similar to ourselves I've found. The bitterness from the likes of Wolves, QPR and Watford fans I know for example is class.

QPR and Watford? lol

Their fanbases are half the size of ours and they didn't make top division until the late 60s and early 80s respectively.

Meanwhile Leicester fans were constantly pissed off pre 2016 as being the only club of our size not to have won a top division or FA Cup (apart from Norwich).

Wigan and Wimbledon had won FA Cups ffs and our local rivals had hugely successful eras in the 70s and 80s that made them media darlings (even now you've got pillocks like Jeff Stelling calling them 'one of England's great clubs' with an average attendance of 19,000).

People don't realise the shit we've had to put up with up until 2015. It's swings and roundabouts. Everyone else had their time, that was ours.

How are Everton funding all this? Sure they're getting £75M for Lukaku but they're signing bloody loads of players and presumably on massive wages too.

I must've missed the part where they were taken over by bazzilionaires.

They got 50m for John Stones last summer too, don't forget.

Gylfi to Everton looks pretty certain now. What interests me is why now after several weeks?  Did they have to wait for the lukaku deal to go through before they were able to be sure they could fund the siggurdson one?  would have thought that they would have got him before pre season got under way for all sorts of reasons. guess we'll see how much of the lukaku dosh they spend from now on.
