Thracian Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 At this stage I'd rather worry about signing an exciting but proven winger and and an additional right back. No, I've nothing against Simpson whatsoever. He's been a rock in our defence week in, week out. But we've got no convincing cover nor the option of a different style of full-back should the need arise. Either way we need back-up.

AjcW Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 Guys... let’s face it, if Everton do well next season, they’re still not going to have won the ****ing league ? And even if they did win the league, they’d have done it spending a hell of a lot more than us! Nowhere near as sweet..

ozvaldo Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 You don't just sell about 6 players of different position for one good player. Theres a lot in that list we could sack off, but we need to keep Amartey and James/Mendy. I'd like to see what a fit Mendy is capable of.
AjcW Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 There would be enough left over to buy siggy if we bought an entirely new XI next week... why do people not get that?? He’s not interested, that’s the simple summary here. Everton are in Europe, even if it’s just the Europa it’s still important to players... and, with incentive to win it and qualify for the champions league it’s important to clubs as well.

Wymsey Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 Sell James for £4m, Mendy for £6m. Add the £10m to some £30m on the side (although the fee demanded appears rather expensive), to make Swansea think about it. Or loan/sell either of these to them, + £30m alongside it imo.
HighPeakFox Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 I ask once again - is there any credible evidence that we are in for him, or that he'd actually make the move?

Irrelevant if the player isn't interested
Sly Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 I come back to the point I said weeks ago and got ridiculed for it. Everton are a better prospect than Leicester long term. They have a bigger draw than us. As a neutral, given the choice, I'd choose Everton. Koeman is a bigger draw as a coach than Shakespear. Not a better coach (although he isn't bad) but a bigger pull. We're seen as a flash in the pan, miracle story. It might have been different had we logged into bothering.com last season. Gilfy Sigurdsson doesn't want to come here. Simple.

I have to agree with you there, we was more appealing last season with CL football, Never thought we had a chance to sign him this season tbh, should really turn our attention to someone else after getting the KI deal done

Is there any credible evidence that we are in for him? We're interested apparently, we believe Percy on most things, he says we are interested, that doesn't mean we are 'in for him' but we should be and if not I question why. Also 'ITK's' have claimed we're interested I think. The question that should be asked is when does interest turn into a bid or being in for him? Or that he'd actually make the move? No, I doubt he would tbh, but why not try? Give it a go, show some ambition, which given the signings we've made and how we're going about business this summer we are show ambition but let's show more, have a go that's all i'm asking, I made the point the other day, go in with the asking price, talk to him, he might not want to come but atleast in the situation if anything it'll make Everton have to pay more for him.

StriderHiryu Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 With Ihenacho coming in to play the number 10 position in competition with Shinji, perhaps we don't need Sigurdsson after all. He is a class player and in my opinion would not look out of place in any team in the Premier League including the top 4, so I would love to see him here. But not all of a club's transfer targets will work out - even Man United switched to Lukaku after being unable to get Moratta. A more creative midfield player in the first team or squad would be highly desirable, but perhaps Iborra will give us an option in that department too. We could still be in for Boudebouz. As others have said, I beleive we did make an offer but the player didn't want to come here. It's not the end of the world if he doesn't come here although it will definitely feel like "one that got away." So I hope we somehow still pull this off. Also I hope to god we aren't in for Barkley. Totally overrated in my opinion.
st albans fox Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 Word is that they are paying him 135/week (or equiv with s/o fee). Not sure how that would have stacked up with our squad. Everton have always been better players than us so not such a big issue for them.
Clever Fox Posted 9 July 2017 Posted 9 July 2017 Iheanacho is a much better option for us. He's the right age to fit in with our grow group of talented young players. Which will serve the Club well for years to come.

There has to be a balance between ambition and stability.

Where's your ambition? 135 k per week is what it takes to pay this calibre of player. What we are doing wrong is to not get the rubbish off the wage bill so that we can better balance the books. Unfortunately, the likes of Musa, Mendy and Amartey..no one seems to want. We have filled up too much with mediocrity.
