Brooksy Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Cant we just throw in Mendy, Musa, Amartey, Zieler and Ulloa as well as the £40m

We have money to spend for the right player's according to Shakey. Mata was surplus to requirements at Chelsea. He was also sold before the TV money took another hike.

Babylon Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Remember people saying "just pay the money", "money means nothing" in the Musa and Slimani threads.... I bet they are the ones moaning about how much they cost now.
StriderHiryu Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Wow amazing news! Even if we don't get him you can't criticise the club. We are going IN this summer. We might have blown it last year, but we've learnt our lessons and are trying to fix them.

CyprusFox Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 4 minutes ago, Finnegan said: He isn't though. Nobody that would actually come to Leicester is worth 50m tbh, we'd be better served dipping back in to the French leagues or whatever we do and getting a bargain. Gylfi isn't worth 50 to us or any buying club and Swansea know that. It's what he's worth to them because they don't want to sell and he doesn't want to leave. I think your right on both counts. He certainly hasn't been giving the impression publicly that he's in any rush to leave

I wasn't aware, but the money in the premier league is over inflated, but you have to factor in it seems the management's strategy has shifted to buying players who have played in the premier league.
Livid Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 £40 Million WOW! I hope we've looked around at who else is available for that kind of money!
Brooksy Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 That BBC article is proper weird. Says we've had a bid rejected then the rest of it just talks about Everton.
thybluefox Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Pretty sure they set his value at £40m right? Now they've said £50m? I said earlier in the thread I was desperate for us to get him - but if they're going to act like dicks they can do one. Can't wait to see them relegated.

kingcarr21 Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 You cant compare transfer fees from this market to an older market its absolutely pointless. Money is pretty much no object now prem clubs are swimming in it. £40 mill in todays market is prob like £25-£30 mil of last years market. The TV deal has blown transfer fees out the water. I don't think he is worth 40 mil but if the club really want him then get it done.
AKCJ Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Is Gylfi helps us to consistent top 7/8 finishes and an FA Cup then I don't care if we spend 200m. Provided the fans don't have massive increases in ticket prices I'd be fine with it. It's not our money.

That's the problem though, he can be wildly inconsistent, whereas Sigurdsson has proven himself time and time again. Saying that, I'd rather still have a happy Mahrez. Unfortunately, he doesn't appear to be in that happy state of mind where we can get that top 10 world talent out of him.
AKCJ Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 I see 50m for Sigurdsson being like the 30m Everton paid for Lukaku. At the time it was a massive, massive amount of money. But they'd bought someone who had proven they could do it in the Premier League while also being a good age.
Dan Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 I'm a big fan of Sigurdsson but fifty million is absolutely silly. There are about five midfielders in the world I'd pay that for and while he is good, this is someone who Spurs deemed not good enough - this is when they were about Everton's level now as well. But I have to say - fair play to Leicester and of course, Rudkin, that's a serious offer and a sign that lessons may well have been learned after all.
cityfanlee23 Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Considering Cabellos and asensio cost madrid less combined, it's not a great deal. He has prem experience and is proven, but for much less money you could buy 1 of: Barkley, Tadic, Bojan, Oxlaide-chambo, Shaqiri
Babylon Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Just now, AKCJ said: I see 50m for Sigurdsson being like the 30m Everton paid for Lukaku. At the time it was a massive, massive amount of money. Lukaku was like 21 or 22 something like that, Sigurdsson with be 28 just after the season kicks off. Another player that's going to do nothing but drop in value, so I don't think the two are comparable really.

Absolutely no danger they wouldn't make the thirty odd back plus interest. We buy Gylfi now he'll never be worth more tbh. Everton got a top forward and an investment. We'd just get a tidy midfielder already in his prime.

Personally think Boudebouz looks better value now though, think I read that he's available for £15m? Imagine this though: Kasper Maguire Morgan New CB Albrighton Drinky Ndidi Fuchs/Chilly Siggy Vardy Iheanacho Never gonna happen and doesnt happen anymore.. too many agent fees are lost in exchange deals.

Ted Maul Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 For £50m, we would get an excellent player with a great attitude and work ethic, proven in the PL, just approaching his prime. We know he will do the business. Hypothetical, but if we take a risk on a £20m alternative from abroad and it doesn't work out, we will have to buy again next year (when prices will be even more inflated) and would have had a worse season that with Sigurdsson in the side, losing out on prize money, etc. It's borderline, but I'd still be happy with the signing at that price.
