always feel unless they are an elite player.. 9/10 players from europe need to get used to this league and take a season to really get going.

For £50m, we would get an excellent player with a great attitude and work ethic, proven in the PL, just approaching his prime. We know he will do the business.

Hypothetical, but if we take a risk on a £20m alternative from abroad and it doesn't work out, we will have to buy again next year (when prices will be even more inflated) and would have had a worse season that with Sigurdsson in the side, losing out on prize money, etc.

It's borderline, but I'd still be happy with the signing at that price.

yeah i agree tbf

Please note 'Worth up to' in the link as well.... probably a 'Win a Cup' 'Qualify for Europe' clause in there or something.... as mentioned above could even be 30 million plus Ulloa whose value must be at least 10m in this market.

I really don't think they'd reject 40 million if it was all upfront or at least all cash.

Narh, Everton were always going to make a profit on Lukaku. Absolutely no danger they wouldn't make the thirty odd back plus interest.

We buy Gylfi now he'll never be worth more tbh.

Everton got a top forward and an investment. We'd just get a tidy midfielder already in his prime.

Yep massive difference I agree, Lukaku was only 20 ish when he went to Everton and like you say they were odds on to get massive sell on value but Gylfi is at prime now and won't be sold for anymore, in fact let's be fair we would make a massive loss on him in all probability

Remember people saying "just pay the money", "money means nothing" in the Musa and Slimani threads.... I bet they are the ones moaning about how much they cost now.

It's a relief they aren't in charge that's for sure. People miss the point. If we spend this on him we will get ripped off for everybody. It's the precedent it sets and if you get into a habit of overpaying then you eventually won't have that money.

I agree with these wise words:

Sign Sigurdsson for £50m and he will depreciate by £10m a year. Add that to £5m of wages a year and he's too expensive to be of net value to a EFC. £50mil at 27 you really do need to be world class. Is he? - nah

I get your point but the television money has changed the game. That's what I'm saying.

We don't need a resale value on Sigurdsson provided he keeps us in the Premier League/Europe.

Past his prime? lol He's 28. He's just entering it.

Not a good deal at all. Get the scouts working on the continent, we can find a player for a better deal than that.

I hope this encourages our suits over prices for our players though. Set a ridiculous price, say no to less. You'll either get paid or keep the player.

Move on boys. Nothing good can happen now. Only madness.

Football's gone bonkers when most y'all think the 50 would be sensible.

For reference, if Arsenal go up to 50 they'll possibly get Lemar (I still doubt it but it might be enough) and he's one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe.

50 gets you Boudebouz two or three times, who created an insane number of chances in an average team last year.

50 gets you Hakim Ziyech probably twice, one of the most exciting upcoming attacking midfielders in Europe who'll be at a top CL club soon.

What's the insistence on buying players from the Prem whose clubs don't want to sell? It's Deeney all over again.

I'm a big fan of Sigurdsson but fifty million is absolutely silly. There are about five midfielders in the world I'd pay that for and while he is good, this is someone who Spurs deemed not good enough - this is when they were about Everton's level now as well.

But I have to say - fair play to Leicester and of course, Rudkin, that's a serious offer and a sign that lessons may well have been learned after all.

Nah its someone that Spurs deemed not as good as Eriksen who would easily fetch 80/90m in this market.

This is a good point - especially given what we learnt summer. We spent on the wrong players and paid the price - literally. £16m wasted on Musa means we've had to pay £25m for Iheanacho this summer. You look at wasted time on Hernandez and YB29 to a certain degree too.

It's an obscene amount of money - but you're getting a player who you'll know will deliver for the next 3 seasons at least.

Considering Cabellos and asensio cost madrid less combined, it's not a great deal.

He has prem experience and is proven, but for much less money you could buy 1 of:

Barkley,

Tadic,

Bojan,

Oxlaide-chambo,

Shaqiri

None are as good as Gylfi...

Nobody has called it sensible.

Sigurdsson gets you guaranteed goals and assists. Only Eriksen has more in the last 3/4 seasons. The players that you've mentioned get you guaranteed goals and assists in their leagues. There is no evidence to suggest that Boudebouz or Ziyech would come here and continue producing to the levels they have been in their respective leagues.

I'd rather take a 50m guarantee than a 30m gamble.

Ben Arfa?

Christ alive Lee you've managed to make the list worse!

Also Everton have just valued Barkley at 50 millin (which is what has caused this whole saga) so he can't be on that list.

Do you not think perhaps the club have been a little put off by the last two or three imports from crap European leagues that haven't quite faired as well?? So perhaps want someone proven?

One is 27 and never left France and the other is 24 and never left Holland...
