Treesa May is terrified

Probably not the right thread to be saying that mate

Struggles with public interaction.

Can't empathise with / offer support to people easily.

Can't handle a punishing schedule.

Type 1 Diabetes somehow affecting her ability to be PM?

Refers to a constant feeling of 'loss'.

Self-described 'bloody difficult woman'.

Currently seen as a joke by people we're trying to negotiate with in EU.

Called an election to strengthen her mandate for Brexit but comes away from election weaker than before.

Climbing into bed with DUP potentially damaging NI peace process to achieve majority govt.

Claims naughtiest thing ever done was running through wheat fields.

Well, **** me - who wouldn't want those traits in a PM!

I sense you're not a fan of hers then Daz? lol

Just seems to me that she's public enemy number 1 at the moment and it's fashionable/trendy to stick the boot in to her at any opportunity.

Maybe when the dust settles she can just get on with the job she's paid to do to the best of her ability.

The people that will have to go in and search all of the floors and rooms have my highest respect - must be very daunting in both fearing every move they make could scupper the investigation process but also the fear they'll find more victims passed away.

But isn't the point, it IS her job to meet these people? She is their Prime Minister whether they like her or not - shouldn't she be going to them and telling them what she's going to do, rather than making a comfortable TV statement back in Westminster?

Theresa May getting even more stick

today I see.

We're all different and she's clearly not a 'touchy feely' type of person.

She's openly admitted that she struggles with the whole public interaction thing as part of being a politician these days.

I think the fact she's gone through life unable to have children may have something to do with it. She referes to a constant feeling of 'loss' in interview a few years ago.

Corbyn on the other hand has 3 kids and is great at interacting with Joe Public.

Good for him, but it doesn't mean I want him in charge of the economy.

She's just an awful human being tbh.

There's a politics thread where you can share those views. Let's keep politics out of this.

if you've read the thread you'll see that TM's ability to connect with ordinary people has come into question (again) because she avoided all members of the public on her visit to Grenfell today.

I think that's good enough reason to discuss her ability as PM in this thread.

thanks for the concern though thread police.

not to mention the discussion about the government (TM's new Chief of Staff) sitting on reports / ignoring pleas from residents to improve fire safety in the tower.

this whole thing is aligned to politics ffs lol.

Who says she isn't going to meet them?

Come on man, what exactly are you arguing here?

TM has just shown repeatedly throughout her election campaign that she only meets people in sterile, pre-checked environments that allow her to come out unscathed from real public opinion.

She's never going to stand herself up to an angry mob of people and accept their anger and offer her compassion in person because she's a fvcking coward.

Anyone with the slightest bit of genuine compassion or a half-decent PR team would have taken a few moments this morning to meet a few residents to offer condolences before moving on to business matters such as the enquiry.

It's common sense unless you want to come off looking like an absolute cvnt.

May was a wrongen the moment she slipped the snoopers charter through without due process. I will never vote for her on that alone. As for her personal traits, clearly lacks any emotional attachment to the real world and every day human beings. To not even be arsed to show any compassion for the victims in this instance shows how rotten she is beneath that leathery skin. She's awful. This situation is awful and her government is at least partly to blame.

Also, in respect of the quango organisation in control of the social housing in the borough, have they even released a statement yet? They have likely spent the last 48 hours running around trying their best to cover up any failings and inadequacy. I think the police should have hit that department asap and took control of paperwork, IT systems etc so there can be no coverup attempts. Heads need to roll for this yet someone everyone will get away with it through the usual blame shifting. The whole thing is a disgrace.

She's had 48 hours. Shouldn't they be a priority?

I don't know her timetable but I'm not sure it matters how quick you meet them.

You talk about empathy and compassion and yet you're using a tragedy to score cheap political and going on a bile filled rant. Your actions don't match your words.

Well it does if you want to put meaningful action into place to help those effected. Forget tribal political alliances here, this is about leadership and she is showing none here.

But if we do turn this politcial, given her dire personal situation she almost had nothing to lose by going and meeting these people, spending time with them, hearing their stories and anger - and perhaps with that making them feel that someone in power is now listening to them and that action, albeit too late to avert this tradegy, will be taken promptly so that these people can grieve and rebuild their lives - and others in similar situations don't have to live in fear they may suffer the same fate.

Ultimately, she's taken the easy cop out option here, akin to what Bush did with New Orleans - and rightly deserves criticism. There is no defence!

If you're watching Sky News now you can see why politicians have to be careful.

Sadiq Khan has people shouting abuse at him. People swearing and arguing with each other whilst he's trying to talk to the camera. There's understandably a lot of anger there and a politician could make it worse. He's got 30 odd policeman surrounding him.

He's now got a child shouting at him live on Sky, 'how many kids are dead, what are you going to do about it?'.

He's handling it quite well.
