So why are his minutes played so low? He comes on as sub a lot essentially.

I've had a look at his minutes and he's played an average of 31 full games in his 4 seasons. While it's low for a club captain, it's far from "rarely plays".

The point was he doesn't start that much, he's seen as not much more than a decent sub. Played 2 minutes in their three finals combined and started just 12 league games last year.

People are chucking around him being captain like we're picking off someone's best player.

Yeah he's definitely not their best player. He's not really your standard Spanish midfielder. Not even been capped. He's a bit of a brute.

The fact that he's club captain definitely is a positive though. I like the fact that our team is full of captains.

No, but they have a better pool of players than us.

Yes we beat them, but they played us off the park at their place and should have been out of sight.

So he may be good enough for us even though he wasn't a starter every week for them

We would all like a player of Gylfi's caliber but we ain't going to get him unfortunately.

If's it's a choice of this lad or Clucas there is only one winner.

Hopefully Rudkin has heard of the likes of Boudebouz, Josip Illic.

Recruitment is everything.

Outside of England there are less than a dozen clubs in the world who have more financial muscle than us. It spoke volumes that Silva couldn't leave his boyhood club in Sporting Lisbon to come and play for us because his salary would have gone from £17k a week to £70k.

Sod Sigurdsson, surely there are loads of players outside of England on poor wages by PL standards who are just as good as the Icelander, the key is to have an excellent scouting system and proper scouting to identify these players. Last year we spent our money like a drunk in a strip club.

This might help with all the confusion about his position

Based off that he is played out position , far more dangeous as cam than a dm

Personally think it could be a canny signing.

Good personality. We arent gambling on promise like we've done recently as he has a track record. Hard worker if not particularly pretty. Grabs a goal occasionally.

The deal won't be 14 million euro straight off for sure. Be an initial fee with clauses galore. Upgrade to others in his role.

I understand how people find it an unattractive signing but we've never done a great job of getting a name here.

I get that... I just don't think some people realise he's not "that" sort of captain.

based off that he is far more dangerous as a CB.

Can't believe people are questioning this, he is a decent signing and a step up from what we have. Willing to bet he will keep Drinky out the squad.

I've no doubt he'll be "decent" but "decent" isn't the calibre I wanted for my club.

He's an improvement on what we have... what are you expecting? Ronaldo?

Far more dangerous playing at CB with 4 goals in 5.

That's highly debatable he's better than what we have, he won't oust Ndidi or Drinkwater I suspect.

One thing I hadn't thought of... does he speak English? lol

No point having a motivational captain if he doesn't speak the language :D

He scored a hattrick from CB the season just gone.

I'm willing to bet when given a chance he will stay in our starting line-up, my bet will be alongside Ndidi. Although based on how Drinky operates he will have a stormer of a season.

He's European... he must do, it's how it works when I go abroad! If they don't understand just shout in a more patronising tone!

I suspect his role will end up similar here like it is in Sevilla. A bits and pieces players who comes on to fill a hole as something different when we either defending a lead or chasing a goal.

I don't see him as a starter and a £25m outlay for four years here and probably no return is money that could be much better spent. He'll be okay but won't pull any trees up in his time here. If he's not good enough to start for Sevilla then he shouldn't be good enough for us IMO.

We desperately lacked a calm head and some technical ability in the middle of the park at times last season.

It's a yes from me.

He's apparently their least technical player and his whoscored weak point is passing. He's 6ft 3" and about as mobile as me.

I just can't see how that replaces anyone in our very mobile CM pairing.

Unless we are going three in the middle of the park ........

no mahrez makes that more likely
