This guy is surely on a par with DD and Ndidi though? He's not Andy King, he'll be pushing for a place and he may well get it as Ndidi is still young and DD's form and fitness hasn't been erratic. Plus we could be playing three in midfield more often next year.

We have James, Mendy, King, Amartey all as back up, with Barnes and Lawrence also in the mix for ACM. You could argue there are question marks about all of them still other than King. I'd rather get answers on them before buying just another backup. This fellas minutes played per year is pretty garbage, he's not been a proper starter for a long time by the looks of it.

Decisions need making on outgoings because we're just stockpiling players and not really giving them time to prove themselves one way or another.

Agree we have too many 'could do a job' CMs and have said it before in here.

We need a player good enough to start with or instead of Drinky & Ndidi, then need to pick one of many we already have (James for me) as fourth choice. We'll need a fifth too, and that's probably Kingy.

Is he that player? Is Silva? His pedigree would suggest he could be, & a more realistic target than Silva (currently).

The rest can go: Barnes to Chamiponship on loan, Amartey to be back up at CB/RB, Lawrence as 4th choice wide player. (I know - only Mendy actually leaves!!!!)

Is this bloke not ANOTHER defensive minded midfielder?

How many do we want? lol

Where's the little, mercurial playmaker to unlock defences?

Love the negativey.... lol

This guy basically has nothing to lose, as everyone has made there mind up.

Right kind of pedigree, not sure it's what we need ATM.

Dm/Cm .

Some one must be leaving.. Mendy being the favourite ?

Change of shape maybe?

It doesn't really matter if it's a position of need or not you get players in that are better than you currently have. He's a vast improvement on James, King and Amartey in central midfield and can play centre back and behind the striker.

Proper solid buy this.

Wow wot do some people want hes coming here to start every game let me tell you that. Hes better on the ball than probably all our midfield he use to play dm but last couple of years bin playing cm and sometimes cam can see us going to a 3 in midfield from now on.

Almost a goal every 200 minutes in La Liga last season. Plays multiple positions.

i feel this guy will be like what Marouane Fellaini was to Everton.

i'm pretty sure Moyes tried his best to bring Iborra to Sunderland when he knew he could not get Fellaini from untied.

When I've seen him play for Sevilla he is one of their least technical players (though still not bad). More of an old fashioned midfield powerhouse with lungs to burn and not afraid to mix it. Whilst I do feel we need a technical player in the team (especially if Riyad leaves), this guy would fit really well into our team. We could rotate between him, Ndidi and Drinkwater or just play all three against the bigger teams (and our start features many of those). He also scores a lot of goals by arriving late or tapping the ball in so would add another threat, especially given our direct style. So he might even be an Okazaki replacement too given how deep he plays.

At the end of the day the price being banded about for the captain of Sevilla is peanuts when you think they basically want the same price we sold Jeff Schlupp for.

good point well made!

Lets hope he's a bit better than Jeff though

If he's a defensive midfielder who actually does something, fine. I.e. if he makes a lot of tackles or interceptions, has enough energy to harry the opposition, pushes forward and is positive in possession. We can't be paying players to sit in the hole and wait for something to happen.

We do have plenty of players who can play in this position but Mendy is leaving (even if he was ever fit and/or good enough), King and Amartey aren't good enough and James han't played at this level for 2 years.

He told me that once and we ended up with Molla Wague. True story. Be careful what you wish for.

I'm always concerned when you hear a player can play in several positions though. That usually means they aren't particularly good at any of them. If you specialise in a position/role, and you're very good at it, why would anyone sacrifice you to fill another position, rather than buying someone else to play there?

On that basis, BIN.

I wouldn't say ITK, I get bits of info from time to time. Others on the forum are better than me.

BANEGA RETURNS TO SEVILLA

Ever Banega has completed his move back to Sevilla from Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old Argentina international passed his medical on Monday before signing a three-year contract with the Spanish club.

Banega said on www.sevillafc.es: "I'm very happy to have returned home, because the two years I spent here were the best I've had.

"I had two spectacular years here, achieving many important things and the fans appreciate that. I also appreciate that the club have always left the doors open for me. Now I'm starting a new era with high hopes."

I did. I had taken a picture of him at the pool in the day and posted it on twitter. He came over to me at dinner and asked me to respect his privacy. No idea how he found out who I was.

He said after the Claudio saga the police took over all his social media and he had been contacted saying there was a stalker in the hotel.

As as he left he said 'I should have a player soon for you' I asked if it was Gibson but he just said I will have someone soon.

We could be lethal from set pieces next year if we get a good free kick taker. Imagine Huth, Maguire, N'didi, Iborra and Slimani all in the same side.
