I know it gets difficult to stay in shape as you get older but given his job and the time he spends around the gear and people with the right ideas; surely would be easier for him to stay in shape than some 40 year old guy with a desk job by day and kids to taxi / bathe at night? He could turn up down the training ground a bit early in the morning and knock out a quick session on the treadmill / weights before the lads turn up. I dunno, maybe not.

You'd think the club dietitian would put together a little something different for Shakey if he requested it. leave him alone. for all we know Shakey might be perfectly comfortable with his body/body shape.

I'm hardly stalking him down the KP calling him a fatty - just wondering why some (not exclusively Shakey) managers aren't in better shape given the nature of their past profession (normally a footballer themselves) and time spent around fitness equipment and opportunities to stay in good shape until later life. But yeah, maybe he is happy as is - he probably spent his younger years in good shape on a strict diet and now thinks '**** it, live a little'.
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Shakey isn't that overweight by the looks of it and most footballers past 40 seem to keep in great shape. Lineker and Shearer don't look much different in body shape from when they were playing. There is the odd exception though did you see two of the greatest players ever ... Maradona and Ronaldo at the Confed cup ... right pair of porkers.

Ranieri you melt Actions speak louder than words. I didn't see much ambition in Shakey's team after about match 3 (Madrid at home where we had nothing to lose included) so I'd like to see how we apprach the first game against Arsenal. The way we approached the same fixture last season was pathetic. So if we're going to have a dig at people over ambition, let's at least be consistent.

Ian Nacho Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Really impressed by this. Why should the manager tell the press what exactly the targets for the season are? Also impressed how he said he knows Premier League survival is important but we're better than just that and showing ambition will attract players to the club. I think Shakey has been spot on with the media since he's taken the hot seat.

You don't go from champions to then expecting to simply beat relegation the season after. i really dont think claudio wanted just 40 points. he was trying to take pressure off himself and the players.

Guest CityFan 06 Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 It was pleasing to hear this. Whilst Premier League survival is of course important, I would like to see us go for more and aim for the top ten season on season. I've noticed both Maguire and Iborra have mentioned (or in a similar way) about the project and ambition they can sense with the club. I think Shakespeare's character is playing a key hand in securing these signings. CS seems to have solid intentions in the club moving forward especially in the way he comes across, potential signings will probably want to buy into that.
Thracian Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Shakespeare seems really committed to the idea of team spirit being the basis for success. Forget three points for a win or one for a draw next season .... I can see it being two falls, two submissions or a knockout deciding, especially if we sign the likes of Deeney. Perhaps we'll fully revive the "All-for-one, One-for-all" comeraderie that won us the title. With first place in the Premiership becoming better known as "ShAp Summit" than the one in Cumbria! Happy Days .

Clever Fox Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 A great interview by Shakey, He seemed to say all the right things and not settling for mid table targets which is spot on. I can also see why he picked Appleton for his Assistant, look at the Shoulders on him, nobody is going to mess with him. He could line out for the Tigers if there short.
bovril Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 Shakey's Target sounds like a long-forgotten, also-ran Britpop band from Widnes who released one modestly successful album in 1996.
Beachyboy Posted 4 July 2017 Posted 4 July 2017 40 points was a joke of a target last season after winning the league the previous year, was very underwhelmed by that, I thought at the start of last season 50 points seemed realistic but attainable an my goal from the start of last season for LCFC, was a top 10 finish. This season 53 points, a point for each of shakey's years on last season totals would make 8th, an definitely top 10. It's not aiming for the stars it's realistic but banishes the negativity of relegation talk, the team is far far better than that.
StriderHiryu Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 Someone in the media department tell Shakey to uncross his arms! Makes him look really defensive when he should be anything but. This interview was really good and his character came through and fills me with confidence. I think he will get that camaraderie back into the team, which I think is one of the crucial ingredients of our success in recent times. My one fear is that our start really is tough and we could easily be bottom 5 of worse after 10 games, even if we put in some good performances. But hopefully Shakespeare can get us to grind out some important points and get some momentum going early. I love that he wants us to be aggressive and compete every game. In the title winning season we scored in so many games and were always threatening, so this is a good thing to hear.
TAFKA Castroneves Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 I really believe he already hinted strongly at his specific target in the post-Madrid interview (top 4) That being announced as a target would be tempting fate a bit too much so i'm glad he's gone in between that and saying 40 points Going to be tough, but i've said it before in another topic - we are heading into another Premier League season which could end up bizzarely very similar to the one in which we won the League title, a lot of the top clubs have issues of some degree (arsenals fans are ready to go full-Purge on the Emirates if they don't get it right this time/chelsea with conte and costa and a potential destabilization behind the scenes) Shakey KNOWS what won us the league as he was well in the trenches getting it done, this is what made me shake my head in disbelief at the fans who wanted him gone over the summer for some other random name, he's a smart bloke and he knows how to get the best out of the players. I'm not expecting to finish in the top 4 - it's still a bit of a dream, but in the back of my mind and in my gut i'm thinking he's got more of a chance of getting us back up there than other press or other teams are giving him credit for (which is exactly what we want as well, teams to not view us as that threat anymore) Lots of signs we are heading in a better direction than at least half the other Premier League sides, decent looking signings, rebuilding that team morale after a funny last season (getting rid of some bad apples perhaps?), not falling victim to the past mistakes regarding what we are looking for in transfers - signing players who will have the character to fit in and add to the group. I'm pretty excited lets put it that way

Shakey spends his entire time around fitness - fit people, fitness equipment, fitness advisers, dietitians, etc. Surely you'd feel compelled to be in good shape yourself and find it relatively easy to achieve that given the equipment, food and help you've got around you all day long?
