Ah fair enough.

Shame. Looks like we are gonna start using revolution. Not really a football pub but at 2.50 for an amstel it's a money saver.

Symphony rooms is the worst of the lot. Total shithole

Only walked in once, saw the white table cloths and chairs and thought wtf it's a wedding and walked back out.

What an absolute tragedy about the swan and the font both cracking boozers with a unique feel to them both should be raking it in. as they they are located near a top football club, a top rugby club a massive university and a huge hospital.

Just shows how badly the pub trade is on its arse especially when you think the victory went under years ago from the same area as well.

Maybe people don't drink as much pre and post match? For me it's not a match day with out a steady four or five pre match and curry from the New Road Inn.

Can also recommend the western used to be my pre match boozer when I lived narbrough road way cracking pub, nice beers the ques can be a bastard though.

Can't comment on the font as not used it in years. But I think the problem with the swan was it didn't appeal to the student market.

Also I think what drinkers expect has changed. The swan was a bit of a shit hole that needed some money spending on it.

Look at the rutland and derby has had a major revival since undergoing a face lift. Pubs like the western and parcel yard are doing ok as steaming Billy actually try to keep on top of maintenance etc.

It's a real shame that these places are shutting as to me it's part of a matchday. But sometimes they don't help themselves, they can't expect to survive of 1 days income every 2 weeks.

When I asked about the tigers fans very few use the swan apparently. Preferring places like the counting house.

Our local has the similar problem it has a large amount of outdoor space ideal for local families but is a shite tip as the brewery don't but in much cash and the tennants either can't be arsed spending their own or can't be bothered. So it survives of about the same 10 customers during the week and hopes there is enough weekend trade.

They just had a event this weekend and it was rammed yet most there have never set foot in before and I would wager very few will come back week in week out as they came for the free live music etc.

Real shame but I think it will be gone at the next lease. They don't use nearly 50% of the building as the skittle alley is under booked and the resturant closed. Who books skittles without supper.

Its a crying shame pubs with character and tradition like the 'Swan' and to a lesser extent the 'Font' go but 'The Local Hero' lives on.

Mad that people would rather drink somewhere like that to save a couple of minutes' walk somewhere else. Worse that people on here actually rate it as a decent place to go.

Hi guys just to let everyone know we run a small pub on Cavendish road (between Aylestone road and saffron lane) called prince of punjab. We have great cheap pints for £3 and a good deal on food. Really good currys and rice in meal box with a pint or fish pakorahs and chips starting from £6. It is all authentic home cooked punjabi food and     non-halal. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Check us out on Facebook and instagram...

The Peel has always been a good boozer on match days. It still is, if you get there early enough. They have introduced a maximum capacity rule which I suppose in these elf n safety obsessed times is inevitable.

Good drop of Tiger & decent pub snacks.

From station it's Granby Street chippy (most chippy's down south don't do Baked Beans FFS, have to get my fix when I can) then down New Walk to a pub that's just the right distance from ground and just the right atmosphere for me (you can have a conversation and hear each other) but selfishly I won't reveal my secret destination here as I wouldn't want the Kings Head to get any busier than it already is on match days.

Looks like we'll give The Western a go, as we had planned to one day. Haven't been into the Rutland and Derby for a while. The other one on the same road is either the Blue Boar or Criterion I gues.

Blue Boar that's it. Lovely drop of 'Billeh' in The Western!

me and my dad often go to The Huntsman on Narborough Road because it's near to where we park. They've done it up since start of last season so a bit more modern. Prices aren't too bad either.

They've got a Caribbean bit outside there now, seems a bit er, different!

Normally go Soar point myself, football is always on in there, foods ok as well.
