Can we keep everyone happy?

We need an additional defender, but we seem to have a lot of midfielders and strikers on the books.

We've already heard rumblings of players unhappy with a lack of game time e.g. Gray and Slimani. Should we be looking to move some people on?

CM - Ndidi, Drinkwater, James, Iborra, King

Wings - Mahrez, Albrighton, Gray, Musa if needed?

Strikers - Vardy, Shinji, Slimani, Iheanacho

Imo it would look a bit pointless keeping Mendy and Ulloa on the books considering the numbers of players we have above.

I'm just hoping we don't have problems later on in the season with players being unhappy as they all appear to be at an age where they probably feel they should be playing.

They'll be some good players not making the bench every week.

Thoughts?

Obviously a good problem to have.

We have way too many CMs. Once Iborra and Drinkwater get fit we will have 7 CMs for 2 positions.

No but we don't need to. No player should be happy unless starting. Obviously we need to offer them hope of a starting place too though and do agree that at CM especially, we are over saturated.

If we hold onto Drinky, then I would look to loan Mendy. King I still don't see the point of but if he is happy playing some cup games then fair enough.

Amartey to be loaned out too if we sign a CB and RB.

Give Musa until January perhaps unless a big offer or decent loan becomes available too. Important to be able to recall these players if needed though.

Winning games keeps players happy.

I think we need a couple of starting quality defenders and then the wins and happiness will come.

we can't keep everyone happy but completion for places is a good thing and it is up to the players to show why they should be picked! they are all professionals who want to be playing regularly and have as much game time as possible but they also need to perform to show why they should be in the team regularly.

We also don't tend to be a team that makes changes unless they are forced upon us.

That is the bigger issue for me, players will be happy if they can see a way into the team, Slimani played well last night but if doesn't get any minutes vs united he will wonder what he has to do especially as we will want a bit more presence against united with the size of their team. Likewise Gray, if he's performing and Mahrez isn't but he isn't getting a start then he will be unhappy. Musa knows he has to work for his place, whilst Mendy, Drinkwater, Iborra will have to fight their place. If James is dropped the second Drinkwater is fit he will have a right to be annoyed.

At least we won last night to get another game to keep people happy

If everyone was fit we'd have two of Iheanacho, Ulloa and Slimani and Musa not making the bench, Huth, Morgan or Maguire as a sub and at least two of James, Iborra, Drinky, Mendy and King (one would start possibly two on the bench) not even making the bench. This all sounds very strong and promising but come the fixture pile up say we have Vardy suspended and Slimani injured, selling one other now would leave us with two starters up front, one on the bench (Ulloa or Musa whichever wasn't sold) and the option of Gray coming on and playing centrally. In a non African Nations year this is just about Okay but if Gray was covering Mahrez we'd need 90 minutes from Shinji which is rare. Huth and Morgan realistically will miss parts of the season again but I have faith in them and Maguire so we should have two of the three available every week .

A big factor would be how close our u23's are to being viable back up options.

Yes we look a little bloated at the moment and there's some senior players who won't be making the bench but we can't have another Tottenham game where we have no established centre halves on the pitch in the second half and players out of position. I nearly bought my boots with me for Bournemouth! Keeping them happy and justifying their salaries are relevant concerns but if we have a horses for courses attitude to selection and two cup runs there's so little to choose between some of the individuals they're all likely to play a part unless we have such sensational form that warrants not making any changes (and I think we'd all like see that !)

We could afford to lose Mendy if James stays fit, losing Benny depends on whether Amartey would be considered at CB, if not he'd need a replacement. And that goaly who stood too close to the candy floss machine can do one too!

It will be difficult, but I think the squad is looking good. We have 26 players in the squad at the moment, but we have space for two more >21 players. I'd prioritise a CB and LM. I've put Amartey as back-up RB. It would be good to get another in, but I am not sure it will happen.

Like Simpson, Albrighton has been is an amazingly consistent player, both have been injury free, but I am not sure how long that can last. At least with Amartey we seem to have some cover (I am not convinced it is his best position, but he will do), we don't have any obvious cover for Albrighton. Perhaps we could play Chilwell on the left and Mahrez/Gray on the right, but we couldn't play Mahrez and Gray at the same time.

This was what everyone was saying pretty much in the Slimani thread in regards to the Slim vs Ulloa argument, how can we keep Slimani happy when he's going to have dropped behind Nacho now? He's obviously a very good striker - he's just not the sort of striker that's going to get the best out of his own game here, we don't play to his strengths at all. I always thought Claudio only really signed him to try and keep Mahrez happy, i could be wrong though it just seemed an odd signing at the time. Yes he is an upgrade on Ulloa but Ulloa was only ever a bit part player when Vardy rose to the forefront.

We do need to sell a few players in my books - but moreso so we can get those couple more key additions we need in defence and in a new creative winger/playmaker, numbers are stopping that currently. With some money coming in as well (30mil for Gray?) we could reinvest easily enough i'm sure.
