I'd rather us get specialist players who do specific jobs so that we don't have to do this. In the interests of this we need a creative midfielder and probably a ball winner (as I'd be surprised if Iborra can get around the pitch quickly enough to do that job in this league and certainly no one else is up to it). We're still putting up with a substandard right back with no competition, our two best midfielders want to leave (even if they are out of form it still begs the question as to who can match their quality at their best) and with Benalouane out of favour and Wes & Huth borderline over the hill we clearly need a centre back. To be fair, at least we look to be trying to get one of those. Meanwhile the squad is full of players who just lack the quality to challenge the first 11 - Amartey, King, Slimani, Ulloa, Mendy, Chilwell - we'll leave out Musa as he appears to be off. Yeh our squad is big enough, but it isn't really good enough. Unless we pull off 3 wonder signings in one day with players, nay, positions even that we haven't even been linked with, I declare us short. Danny Simpson is many things, but substandard isn't one of them. I refuse to be miserable until it is justified beyond doubt. So, should be about 20 hours til my personal meltdown starts.

dorsetboy Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 im happy with maguire and iborra and nachoman but still think we need a solid quick terrier in the middle (dare i say it another kante ) and it seems like simpson is untouchable as we dont even appear to be trying to buy someone who can compete with him for that spot ? still cant help but think we had the best chance ever of bringing in some real quality last year when we qualified for th champions league but rudkin messed it up and now we are competing with the likes of stoke and west brom, feel certain if we had gone for evans, smalling or kryowiazk (/) this time last year they would have signed by now knowing they would be playing in the champions league

You get used to the regulars after a while, I wouldn't let it annoy you, the trick is to not feel the need to have the last word. I try not to get into long exchanges with anyone on FT, because life is too short.

We are lite in central defence, right back and centre midfield. And if we lose DD even more so. seriously, take a break from dominating this forum and also change your pic. It's shit ? I mean it, what are we not solid enough for? What are your expectations this season? What you expect probably determine whether you think we are light or not. Like I said, in the middle last season we for the most part just had DD, King, Amartey, they added wilf but obviously DD then carried the injury. Id say (as things stand) we are in a far stronger position at cm than last season, when we could and should have finished top 10. DD hopefully for again if he stays, wilf, Iborra, James back from injury, Mendy back from injury (if he stays), king and Amartey. That's got to be enough for a top 10 going off last year. I preferably would like another cb and clearly the club would over Benny, as he's just not good enough. But adding Maguire over Hernandez has to have made that area a bit stronger than last As at least he's a viable option. Csnt see a right back as we've not bothered about it for years.

I'm not sure many do. Point was, we are stronger in that position than last year already. Another one is ideal, but not the end of the world.

We've replaced Wazza with Maguire (England international). Our title winning defence is still at the club. Weve currently lost 1 midfielder who played on loan all year and brought in Iborra. Weve also signed Kelechi as an extra link up no10. I don't get how people are so worried? Unless we have a major injury crisis our squad looks top 10 at least

Talking sense. if you listen you many on here you would think we'd gone into admin and lost all our players. i would prefer a compact squad that can keep a lot of players happy than a huge squad that loses its identity (like many clubs these days), having a 'smaller' squad (even though it's not that small) also means youngsters can get a chance to impress (aka rashford wouldn't be in the Utd team if they didn't have an injury crisis at the time)

The way I look at it, is I think another CB would be great, but it's going to mean someone going out as well. If We signed Evans today, that would mean Evans and Maguire playing, Wes on the bench and both Huth and Benny not even on the bench, as we won't put two specialist CB's on the bench. That can't be sustainable in terms of keeping people happy, so someone will probably go out on loan. Meaning we still have the same numbers.

Maybe good players on paper but we know from experience this doesn't always work. I think Renato Sanches will struggle to be honest. West Brom pretty solid anyway. Not many other clubs below the top 6 have made as good a signing as Kelechi
