I tried sushi for the first time a couple of months ago. Didn't like it. Bland fish with strong flavours chucked on top to try and make it interesting. It even manages to balls up salmon.

I seem to spend half my life inspecting sushi places at the moment.

The decent ones are phenomenal. Really high brand, quality and hygiene standards,

If it goes wrong it’s pretty grim, but the good places are some of the cleanest and most diligent I’ve come across.

If you voted Leave you should be at the back of the queue for petrol.

Petrol queues have nothing to do with Brexit. There is no shortage of tanker drivers or petrol.

It's the media whipping people up into panic buying.

There will never be any consequences that can be attributable to Brexit.  It will always be covid or the population or the media or the government (or their opposition). Never Brexit

or alternatively, it's easy for you to blame Brexit as it fits the narrative of what you believed would happen.

There has been well over 50,000 HGV driver vacancies for each of the last 5 years.  In fact only 12,500 EU drivers have left since brexit.

this is a systemic failure built up over a number of years, with poor working conditions, poor pay and not enough younger people coming into the profession. There are now more than 230,000 HGV licence holders under the age of 45 alone in the UK deciding not to work in the commercial haulage sector.

Brexit potentially crystallises the issue. But it isn't the root cause.

Would you have driven the length and breadth of the country for just over £30,000 a year?

They're all saints compared to Marcos Alonso.

I don't wish injuries on anyone, but I wouldn't feel bad if Alonso had his career ended tomorrow. He shouldn't even be playing football.

I love him for keeping benchwell out of the team

I've got mates who have had, objectively, harder lives than me who have worked hard but are doing worse than me. I don't really feel that bad about it and I refuse to be made to feel bad because my family supported me. Apparently that's an unpopular opinion.

There are a lot of things being made worse by Brexit and for each one it will get absolved of its influence, that's the point I'm making.

Do I detect a sense of guilt? ;)

Nah, I'm not entirely sure just how unpopular lack of empathy is.

Given that it won the last four general elections I'd say it's probably a majority position.

Yeah it came from a talking point. I was told it's unfair of me to be proud of where I've got to because I "had a good start". That struck me as utter bollocks.

Without knowing the ins and outs it sounds like a bit of jealousy on their part. Even if you had a so called good start it doesnt mean youve not had to work hard to be where you are now. Likewise plenty of people who havent had good starts have done well for themselves in life. Your mates should be pleased for you.

Spot on. I'm pleased for people who do well and I tell them that. All part of my wannky, super-positive mindset probably.

Public transport is absolute crap and driving, whilst being environmentally unhealthier, is a far better way to travel.

Certainly is unpopular. Driving long distances is horrible.

There's nothing wrong with celebrating achievement. There is, however, when it crosses into pushing the Just World Fallacy as an idea, and you'd be amazed at how often these two things interact.

Kindly pardon people for being defensive there when it happens so often.

Never heard of that before so googled it.

Some interesting stuff.

I would say you certainly shouldn’t feel bad about it. As long as you’re aware (and you seem to be) that you’ve had some help and some luck that many others haven’t. As long as you’re not saying ‘f**k you lot, I’m all right and that’s all I care about’ (I’m not for a minute suggesting you are saying that btw!) then no, don’t feel bad.

Cheers Geoff. I started out in your industry but got out early on in my career when I realised how few the jobs were and how London centric they are. I had the pleasure of hearing someone I knew from uni on a well known sports podcast and sent her a message on facebook saying well done. I was surprised as to how negatively she reacted.

People don't seem to be congratulatory or supportive much these days, sadly.

I believe that there should be a version of the Olympics where people can take whatever drugs they like. See how far we can really push the records.

I say its unpopular. I don't even know if its unpopular. You can bet it will be now that I've said it.
