Likewise, one of my biggest pet hates. If a large cohort study has provided a sound bit of evidence, then it is fact…. Some self obsessed person with a blue tick on twitter who has the opposite opinion to such facts, is not.

To be fair the world is a minefield of information, accurate, inaccurate and false. Problem comes for some people they’re not able to distinguish between them, and they unfortunately fall foul of influencers spreading inaccurate information because they’re accessible and produce a lot of it.

Healthy opinions on topics is perfectly fine, and can promote good debates!

Agreed. It's been discussed on here before but it's an example of technological advances (in this case, the internet) moving faster than our ability to utilise them in what might be considered the most effective manner.

Our brains and the way we think really needs to catch up in the form of being able to parse this new wealth of information better, because if it doesn't then we're essentially better dressed apes with nuclear weapons - and with much the same possible result.

Mostly crap but have done some good stuff too. Mainly their heavier songs like Burn It To The Ground and Something In Your Mouth.l off the Dark Horse album.

One of their songs popped up on a compilation I was listening to earlier and I thought 'oh, that's not too bad'.

Nickleback aren't nearly as bad a band as people make out.

Nah, I agree. It's just become a meme at this point to hate Nickelback. Don't get me wrong, I don't like them at all, but they're certainly no worse than many, many other bands.

IMO dreary middle of the road pop-rock like Coldplay or U2 is more offensive.

I'd wiped every thought of Nickelback from my mind forever until this now, oakman.

And this is how you remind me!!

You should go to more gigs.

You should go to a Nickelback gig!!

My statement might have been a bit misleading though because I've seen a lot of bands live, so when I say they're one of the better bands I've seen, what I mean is they probably just about get into the top 20... but they're still a good band

That's enough Internet for you for today.

I just want it known I gave rep to this post because its true to the spirit of the actual thread and not because I like Nickelback.

Way to go.

My unpopular opinion here might well be that I think you're right - it is the spirit of the thread, imuo.

I'm not a proponent of booing our own players at all, but -

The comparison people keep using: "you wouldn't like it if you were booed in your job" or "how about I boo the checkout assistant if I think they've done their job bad" is such a shit argument. It's gold standard, absolute horseshit.

Not only is sport (not just football) just like this (Oklahoma fans were chanting for the second string QB in their WIN on Saturday in college football, as they thought the first choice wasn't playing well) but have you met a retail worker before? Have you met a doorman or a traffic warden? You telling me they don't get abuse on a day to day basis?

Booing is not conducive to a healthy atmosphere but please stop with the "booing in other job" comparable.

Yeah, the comparison is lazy.

The reason I am against booing during a match is that it's totally counterproductive - has there ever been an incidence, at all, of where a player has explicitly stated that their own fans booing them made them play better? As such, when someone boos they're not supporting the players or the club by doing it - they're just engaging in selfish self-gratification. And I would hope most folks go down Filbert Way to support the City instead of themselves.

Pretty hard to prove a negative. Counterpoint to that is to ask has there ever been situations professionally where people have expressed disappointment with someone's performance and its been a catalyst for an improvement? How else are fans meant to express themselves to players/staff. Not sure a ratty letter to Four Four Two or Shoot! will cut it nowadays.

I'm against the booing for what it's worth, but trying to get more discussion than booing = bad (or that these people "are thick" if you read what some posters put in the other thread) and clapping = good. Classic carrot and stick argument. There must be some footballers out there who get booed (by whichever set fans) and go "I'll show them". I know it's not the same as a PDR, but you can't not provide feedback for fear of hurting someone's feeling professionally.

It is hard to prove a negative, so the original null hypothesis stands, I believe.

I'm sure there's been situations where expressions of disappointment have led to improvement, but I'm honestly not sure such an expression as booing or other abuse has been the cause of it; much more likely for it to have been more constructive disapproval.

I understand not being able to do it then appears to leave annoyed fans with little or no direct outlet to the players that doesn't make them look bad, but the facts of the matter are what they are. Perhaps other options for expressing disapproval do exist that haven't been discussed here.

Of course shit like that happens and as a society we generally believe that people who abuse service staff are cvnts.  So the comparison isn't really that out of order, it's weird that some people think it's ok to be cvnts towards their team.

I'm glad we're not in the Champions League this season. With the defensive frailties we have at the moment and the likelihood we would've had a tough group due to UEFA's new seeding, we could've been at the receiving end of the odd spanking which would do confidence doing no good. At least with the Europa League we have the potential to go deeper into the competition; I'm not saying we're going to win it but it allows our younger players to gain some European experience which will help us be actual contenders in future seasons in Europe.

Rosie Jones is a rubbish comedian. No denying her bravery in living and succeeding with her condition, she's remarkable in that respect and for that, she has a lot of admiration. But as a stand-up, she's no great shakes.

Tbh you could say that about most comedians on tv.

Lots of them become parodies of a slightly amusing element of their act.

Romesh and that Rob Beckett have fallen victim to this. They've taken the 'physically inept' shtick beyond funny.
