Sanjeev Nanda Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 It was only last year that me and my wife went to the US. We visited Yellowstone National Park and decided to go for a hike. While walking we heard a noise and saw a Grizzly munching on something. Though, it didn't see us but still it was a memorable experience. Any such experiences in your life? Please share.
Captain... Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Seeing a snake by the coast in Fiji and following it over the rocks to try and get a good picture, showed it to the guys at the hostel who told us it was one of the deadliest sea snakes in the world, not a smart move. On a side note, have you really signed up to a football forum just to ask about wild animal encounters?
VLC86 Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 I was once back packing and had to fight off a pack of wolves, are you an ostrich?

On a side note, have you really signed up to a football forum just to ask about wild animal encounters? I've encountered a few wild animals on this forum, so find it quite logical that someone should sign up to Foxes Talk seeking such encounters. I have nothing exciting to report. Walking in some rocky hills in Australia, I got the shock of my life when a kangaroo suddenly leapt out from behind a boulder in front of me and bounced off down the hill. Another time in Aus, I was followed for a couple of miles by a whole family of emus who apparently found me an item of great curiosity. When I was next to a forest in Honduras, I was pretty unnerved at the strange roaring and semi-laughing noises of the howler monkeys in there, but didn't get to see them.
AndWhat? Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Grizzly's, Black bears and heard a wolf just outside our tent while camping too which was ****ing scary. All in BC in Canada, such a cool place to go to see wildlife. Will never forget the first time I saw a bear, we pulled up next to it in our car and couldn't have been more than 3 meters from it, it didn't give a shit and just carried on chomping on some grass! We got a boat to the khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary to see Grizzly's which was amazing too, if anyone ever ends up around that neck of the woods I highly recommend it!
ozleicester Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Lots of snakes...in fact my wife chased one out of our kitchen with a broom They arent a real threat, but we had a Dingo walk past us in outback Northern Territory and a Coyote in the USA
Finnegan Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Most awesome / terrifying wildlife experience was on Lamma Island off Hong Kong main island. Do a Google image search for Lamma island spiders and you'll get the drift. There's, literally here, hundreds of thousands to millions of them. You can't possibly count them. They're web spiders and their enormous webs (like a metre across) were solidly one next to the other covering the jungle. Were even hanging over the path way and from lamp posts and signs. Staggering. When I got to the other side of the jungle I just stripped to my pants and legged it straight in to the sea.
Stadt Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Not completely wild but I got to see some giant tortoises on the Galápagos
VLC86 Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Was out watching the Northern lights at the ice hotel in Sweden on a frozen lake and as you can imagine it’s pitch black. The next thing we hear a shuffling sound and start to properly shit ourselves and then we see a little artic fox.... proper shit myself. Asked someone at the hotel the next day and apparently it had been stealing people’s gloves .

Once i remember i was just trying to eat some fackin berries in peace and these two humans came waltzing in the forest like they owned the place. They thought i never saw them but the stench of human feces put me right off my dinner and just wanted to leave. Hope they brought spare underpants.

Strokes Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 I was playing golf at mertle beach north carolina, when i hit a lake ball. It only rolled in, so i walked right over to see if i could play or retrieve it. When i got there, there was an alligator pretty much where i expected my ball to be, it wasnt huge but it turned towards me as i approached and i absolutely shat my pants. I ran back to my buggy and drove to the green as fast as i could and never played the rest of the hole. Needless to say, i never hit another water hazard again that holiday and my golf improved

SpacedX Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Great thread. Was bouldering in Joshua Tree National Park and three of us were walking across an open stretch of desert. Seemingly out of nowhere a black cloud appeared and engulfed me - (I was several steps ahead of the others). There was an intense hum and I watched it spiral away into the distance. It was a swarm, much like those you see in the cartoons. Later we arrived at a large rock formation and saw some hornets pouring out of a nest in a crevice. I perhaps soberly resolved that the bouldering activities should cease for the day. Driving out of the Park I stopped at the Ranger Station, told them what had happened and that I suspected they were bees. What I wanted to know though was whether they were Africanised. The Ranger nonchalantly laughed and said without a doubt they were but the reason that I wasn't stung to death or that such a scenario didn't result in indiscriminate attacks is because they weren't threatened and I wasn't near the nest. They were on a mission - most likely to smother a similar hornets nest which is why I'd observed the agitated colony in the rockface. Returning to Palm Springs, mainstream America beer being notoriously pissy, I went straight for the top shelf at the poolside bar only to hear the juke randomly box belt out Chicken Payback by the Bees followed by Sting. If you're visiting that part of SoCal - I'd recommend Coachella instead. As a kid my Dad worked in New Zealand for a spell and we were taught to check our shoes in the morning for redback and white-tailed spiders. Never found one but I disturbed a katipo under some driftwood while beachcombing and was fortunate not to get a nip. Had a rattlesnake cross my path while hiking in Utah and saw a Black Bear from a distance in Kings Canyon which shat me up. If you visit Death Valley packs of Coyotes come out at night and wander lazily down to the resorts but they're only interested in rifling through the rubbish and saunter past only yards from you. Forget all that though - I once went to a cup tie at the Old Den and emerged to tell the tale.
