Best away supporters in the country imho Hope they get back in the PL soon Didn't think they were quite up to their usual standard tonight from where I was sat- still the best we've had for a while though. It's funny how bad the acoustics in the ground are, I'm not far from Union FS and it's difficult to hear the away fans a lot of the time.

Only when we scored did we remotely compete
foxtillidrop Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Not sure if I missed it but were our players warming up at half time? I don't remember seeing any of our players kicking a ball or doing any running drills like they would normally do with the backroom staff. Just an observation.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 After a slow start (Iborra had an awful first half; I'm surprised to see his 2nd half improvement recognised) we were well in control. Mahrez coming on sealed the deal and that run from Amartey! Not convinced on Chilwell over Fuchs, this was a Championship team remember, though he did do very well, he worried me a couple of times. One last thing. Grey needs to learn when to pass, i.e. when you've got five players between you and a clear shot at goal.
Ted Maul Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Iborra and Amartey- class above. Maguire, Dragovic, Chilwell, Slimani all excellent. Iheanacho grew into it after his goal. Gray incredibly frustrating. Needs to work on his positioning and runs, constantly makes the wrong decision. He would have had a field day if he hugged the touchline and tried to get in behind the full back tonight. Still, he's young and he will learn if he works hard enough. Mahrez- he's got that swagger and decisiveness back in his game again, and looks something like his best. Dare I say he's back?!

Bert Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 When was the last good game Maguire had? Dragovic surely knocking on the door? Slimani played the centre forward target man very well tonight. Worked hard, held the ball up well and got his goal after that horror miss. I think the first 25 we were played off the park but it was one way traffic as soon as we scored. Gray seemed so desperate for a goal and nearly scored a screamer but he contributed very well. He's very hard to defend against. Big shifts from Chilwell, Amartey and Iborra too. The latter absolutely oozes class. Whenever the ball is coming to him he's always looking, his football awareness and intelligence is something we've not had since Cambiasso. Iheanacho looked very lazy and subdued at times but scored a lovely goal and got a decent assist too. In the end, a comfortably deserved win. Here's to getting Bristol City at home next round.
Manwell Pablo Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Some of the abuse Iheanacho was getting inside the ground reminds me why I don’t go anywhere near as much as I used to. After he setup the second someone actually said “meeehh still want him off” i appreciate some of his touches were not the best but I don’t really think you can argue with a well taken goal and well taken assist.
treer Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 after slims miss, I was praying him to score for his confidence . as I think he thrives on scoring. SO pleased when he netted Also a word for Hamer his distribution was perfect and set up a lot of City possesin, just hope pep doesn't notice!!!!!!!!!!!
Sublime_Coatsworth Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Hate Leeds, hate their fans, great night!

Mostly agree, except thought Chigwell was sloppy first half and you are too kind to Gray. Very skilful, but not a team player, plus his defensive duties are basically non existent. That's why he doesn't play regularly. Would not be sorry to see him go.

Ric Flair Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Maguire was pony tonight, his passing was worse than anything Benalouane served up in a Leicester shirt.

Gray was very good defensively tonight!! Watch that match back again and there are 3-4 occasions he made great tackles from tracking back and winning the ball, it's a myth he can't defend. He's just so desperate to make a name for himself he's out of position at times.
Dan Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Poor first half but grew into it during the second and deserved the win I'd say. Amartey's best game in a Leicester shirt. Mahrez a difference maker. Not hugely tested as we were effectively playing a Championship reserve side. Got to treat this cup seriously though.

Come on, just because he is a bit different to our recent centre backs and surprised us with his quality at the beginning of the season doesn't mean we can't start setting him standards to be as good as Maldini every game, he's only young and is solid, chill. He was average at best tonight.
BoyJones Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Just now, pmcla26 said: Gray is one of our most promising players with Kelechi, Wilf and Chilly, he had a poor game tonight and is inconsistent for sure, but when the inevitable happens of Mahrez leaving whether that be in January, next summer or whenever, he'll be the guy to look to, just like how Maguire has come in for Huth and Ndidi is our Kante replacement, he's only young though and will only get better, we need to hold on to this young talent we have. I do hope that he does get better, but after two years with us, I don't see any meaningful improvement - maybe it is our coaches. IMO he would not have squared that ball to Slimani to score, but tried a shot himself. We've had plenty of wing players better than him over the years, I just hope he comes good. Defensively, he is also often caught out of position, and needs to take a leaf out of Albrighton's book re tracking back.
ian_marshall Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Slow start, but grew into the game after they scored and finished the first half strongly. Second half was like watching men against boys. We completely dictated the play and toyed with them before killing the tie. I appreciate it wasn't Leeds strongest side, but let's not forget that we too were missing quite a few regulars. What struck me the most tonight was the way we went about the performance. It was both professional and controlled, and reminded me of times over the years when we we've been the second tier side and come up against sides from the top tier in the cup and the way our opponents always seemed to cruise to victory without ever really having to break a sweat.

Agreed. Maguire was assured on the ball playing it out calmly in tight spaces with confidence. I know he’s a ball player but it’s obvious he’s being trusted/instructed to do so to keep possession. He may not have been at his best but with a new CB partner it was never going to be a seamless display. Iborra unsurprisingly looked very good against average opposition. Amartey did himself no harm. Slimani has a lot to offer as I’m sure we all realise, if he’s deployed in the right capacity. Hamer, confident... not sure Kasper would have stopped their goal. Dragovic, had he struggled tonight I’d have had serious doubts about him. He took everything in his stride and had a good game. Andy King was Andy King. The rest did enough not to be lowered down the pecking order. Riyad, walked on, passed one into the corner. Class and a swagger only someone of his ability can have.

It is very good to watch again, we they weren’t doing this until these last two games I don’t know Imagine how our midfield will look with Silva in January with Iborra/Ndidi.

Really confident and skillful performance. It is a pleasure having such a young , talented and versatile player.
