'Plaudits for our atmosphere' ?! Not any more

I posted the original thread about 'Plaudits for our atmosphere' on Aug 9th 2015. We hadn't won the league, we had no idea of the season that was about to unfold!

I was genuinely pleased that our atmosphere was looking like one of the best in England. I had often stated that I've been going to watch City since the 1960's, not just for the football (which had been very variable over the years) but for the atmosphere, the craic with my mates etc.

To put this post in context, I'm a 57 yr old season ticket holder that loves to sing. I'm at the back of the Family stand (a group of us moved there from the L block quite a few years back because we couldn't stand the stupid drum. We were some of the few that first stood in the L block and had to put up with 2 seasons of hassle from stewards).

Well now the atmosphere appears to have DIED!

The L Block, hardly ever bother.

The Kop, Very rarely hear them.

Union FS, too small a group to be heard.

Family stand, most now can't be bothered.

If you're not bothered about an atmosphere fair enough, but as I said, I see it as an integral part of the whole experience.

i watched FC Basie v Man U last night. 0-0 for most of the game and yet the FC Basle 'Ultras' maybe 2-3,000, singing/chanting/bouncing all game.

So disappointed that we don't have something like that.

Have I an answer, god no. Just the usual stuff like:

Lets have unreserved seating area next to the away fans.

Safe standing section (when allowed).

Relegation to get rid of fairweather 'premiership' fans.

I just needed to vent!  Thank you.

We went next to SK 1 for the Leeds and Liverpool cup games. I've got to be honest, sorry, but  I wasn't that impressed.

Rome wasn't built in a day, do you think those 3000 Basel fans just ended up there by chance?

Last weekend was as bad as its been for years.

I'd like to put it down to a stunned silence due to how brilliant Man City were but it's rapidly declining.

Everyone is still on a come down from the league win. Give it time, if we start playing some half decent stuff under Puel it will get better.

Not sure it will ever be as good as 15/16 or the CL games though - you might have to get used to the idea that we've peaked!

Yeah but in those Cup games not everyone is seated in the same place as for league games where their is a batch of ‘singers’ all together.

I’m in my 50s (ffs can’t believe that) and I get involved.

Let's be honest, most of us aren't going to sing for ninety minutes if we're bored and playing shit.

I know we should but generally people respond to excitement by making more noise.

We've had to ensure a lot of unexciting shit shows recently.

Yes it’s a disgrace now.

Too many middle aged and older people who either can’t be arsed or don’t have the energy, plus the younger generation have been priced out of the equation.

the atmosphere is always proportional to the football.

Our "incredible atmosphere" began at the start of the Great Escape, which just happenned to coincide with introduction of the clappers. It then followed through the following season in which we won the PL - how could the atmosphere not be good with that going on?

Now that the excitement levels have tailed off, so has the atmosphere.

Our atmosphere as a subject has been done to death but the only way it'll improve is through organisation. UFS have had some criticism thrown at them but at least they're trying to improve the atmosphere and encourage people to join them.

Certainly gone backwards in the past few months.

Not compared to Arsenal.

I don't think last weekend is a fair comparison. We were being well beaten (in terms of play) by a very strong side, and no matter how much you like to sing, it is difficult for most to do so when there's not much to cheer about.

However I have noticed a declining trend in our atmospheres which is a shame, even the clappers are being used less and less each game. As has already been pointed out, it is possible we have simply peaked, it is unlikely we will ever see a CL game again, let alone a title challenge (in the top division anyway).

But I do think we have a good fan base generally, it will pick up if we go on a bit of a run.

Too many new songs that I don't have a clue what the lyrics are?

How about a song sheet? ;)

Excellent idea can we get the words to WYS put on it as well:ph34r:

I very much agree that the atmosphere and singing is integral to the experience of going to a football match, but it's not the same for everyone. I don't live in the city anymore so don't have a season ticket, but probably see about 15 games a season home and away. Last season I watched 3 of the Champions League games from near the family stand in seats that had incredible views, but even on those nights the atmosphere where I was sitting was pretty dead. Even for the Porto game which overall had one of the best atmospheres I've ever heard at the club period (that was a great night actually). But then when we were up against Sevilla I went next to the Kop and it was probably my pick for best atmosphere for an LCFC game at the King Power.

The thing is though that Leicester is a family club. We are never going to have Ultras at the club, and as you've said the atmosphere was so brilliant because literally the most romantic story in Football history was about to take place. So when it's not up to those incredible standards it will be naturally a lot flatter, and once you've experienced an atmosphere like the ones against Sevilla or even versus Norwich when Ulloa got the winner right at the end, it's hard to accept the current situation.

Trying to think about proactive ways to solve the issue, check out the following video posted by Robbie from ArsenalFanTV. He went to Dortmund to see how they managed to create such an incredible atmosphere and it's quite interesting. I've personally been to the stadium to see a Bundesliga match and it really is quite incredible.

Is L1 even a thing anymore, haven't heard anything from them since the end of the title season. Jobber does nowt and he seems to be the only thing that even gets a couple of them to do anything now.

Get yourself into SK1 mate it's the only way things will get any better. Especially as you referenced Basel last night so that style of support must be appealing to some degree?

Sk1 is utter shit ??
