It's a 5 point gap with 19 games to play.  We've pulled off more unlikely feats in each of the last 3 seasons.

Making up points gets progressively harder the closer you are to the top. Not saying its impossible but for me somewhat doubtful

We were quite near to beating Arsenal if I recall correctly.

Quite isn’t beating the big boys, but it might be different under puel, as I think the management at the time paid them to much respect.

Either way come the end of the season I think normality will be resumed, and the big boys will be in the champions league, but fingers crossed we can keep this up, and scrap for the europa league.

Our chance to put a little pressure on tomorrow in the early game. Spuds away to man c in the late game and we know how they react to our pressure lollol

I would say no. However if in mid to late March we are in a position where we can challenge for a top 4 finish, then I would say yes as the title win of two seasons ago will be a big factor in the run in.

Absolutely bob hope of us finishing above 7th. That would represent an excellent season in my opinion. Would be delighted with us being the best of the rest outside the big 6.

... I agree with sylofox, a win tomorrow does start to apply pressure but there’s still so far to go .... for me, I reckon 7th and that’s a good position to build again for next season .... but I’m also totally happy to be proved wrong and a top 4 would be most welcome!

All depends on whether Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham remain inconsistent whilst us obviously trying to maintain the run and not being complacent.

Why didn't we appoint Puel just after Ranieri was sacked?..

Because his Southampton side was just about to play ManU in the League Cup final?

The pressure on spuds arsenil and liverpool will become far greater if we close the gap. These players are capable of anything if they want it.

I meant at the start of this season, sorry.

I do think it’s a possibility but sadly it’s far from a probability. We look greatly improved but it’s far too early to tell if this is the real us, or just a new manager boost. Im mostly pleased we seem to breaking away from the style and shape that won us the league, there was a danger it could be forged into our identity forever and become the thing that drags us back down. Puel has the minerals to adapt and change us, and hopefully improve us.

A real job to say at present, it really is! Along with the irrepressible Man City, we are the other form team in the league at present and are on the crest of a wave so it's easy to get carried away but after what happened two years ago then it is also highly understandable that we are thinking so positively again re asking about the possibility of a top four finish. I predict a 5th place finish if we maintain this form - sorry - but I'd obviously love to be completely wrong!

On the other hand if a journeyman side like Burnley can occupy the top four right now then why can't a team as ours blessed with riches of underrated talent on form at present (and with a newly appointed pragmatic manager keen to impress after his 'beyond harsh' sacking at Southampton), emulate to do the same? Puel along with Appleton's know how from his time here already and prompting are a huge factor in this too so far, or so it seems. People say we have not come up against any of the big four in recent weeks but lest we forget we have beaten one of the teams that should on paper finish well clear of us by May, the Spuds! Liverpool and Arsenal are clearly going through an inconsistent spell for now so it will be interesting to see where they are in the New Year too. All to play for but I'll say we'll finish (a disappointing?) 5th!!

No, but I think Arsenal and Tottenham are realistic targets for passing. Chelsea might be as well, if they lose in the CL and spiral into disinterest.

The problem with us finishing top-4 was the stretch after the second Liverpool game -- I think we had 3 draws over 4 games against inferior teams? Cost ourselves 6 points there, that coupled with taking zero points from the top teams early, it just leaves us almost no margin for error.

Now, if Puel had been hired in the summer, I would say yes. As it stands, I think we should be targeting top-5, sure, but it is going to require three elite teams losing focus while we snap up all the points against inferior sides to finish 4th. Just so little room for error, as much as I hate to admit it.

We are finally reflecting our talent in our performances, which is terrific. Anything lower than 7th will be a big disappointment to me.

No. Not a fvcking chance.

That's not belief but utter delusion.

We're playing well, winning precious points but with this defense and the fact that we'd have to maintain a champion's rhythm to cope with the big six, without forgetting that we're not even sure to keep Mahrez or that Silva will hit the ground running, anything above 7-8 (which would be great given our disastrous start) is wishful thinking.

A couple of wins and people already lost touch with reality.

I'm bored of all this hype now. One great game and we go mental. I hope it's justified but just bring on the football.

... and I reckon not just the spudders but the gooners as well will fold under pressure this season. Liverfool.... I’m not so sure, Klopp has finally got them working and they look more hungry for some kind of result.  But again, I do agree with you that ultimately it’s down to the players and what they want and now with their confidence and belief high; well who knows!?
