I read something once that said decorators would be replaced by machines very soon. I don't see it myself, the varieties of different things I have to do as part of my job, it doesn't seem feasible to me.

Now now CF, that's a bit harsh. Have you not heard the expression "If you can piss, you can paint?

I've never seen a urinating robot so I think Webbo is safe for the time being

I've had/am having two jobs done for me.

Plumbing and replacing a storm damage flat roof, I can't imagine robots doing that and even if they could it'll be long time before they can make them cheap enough to replace the many one man craft businesses.

Maybe they could have built you a better house? lol

Maybe although it is 50+ years old and even robots themselves cant build indestructible properties and they wouldn't be welcome by the heritage smashing LCC.

I guess with all these modular builds they could develop replaceable units  like cars are these days so in the future you have leaky pipe and they'll replace the whole toilet/kitchen unit at vastly increased cost and a waste of precious natural resources.

Anything with a hint of automation is pretty much in scope and perfectly feasible to be replaced within a few decades.

Really hope south west trains drivers get hit first.

Fantastic video here from a great youtuber......

Pretty sure we'll have a HHGTTG type babel fish available within the next 10 years so language teachers and translators won't be necessary even before I die.

If robots do take our jobs then pretty soon most people will be out of work and won’t be able to afford the goods supplied or made by said robots. This in turn will mean the robots losing their jobs and being turned into paperclips or something thus allowing us great unwashed back into our original jobs.

Of cause should the the option of me being allowed to send a robot in my place to work whilst I still collect the wages then I’m all for it.

Well this was one of the reasons for the post.

There is is a lot of talk about Universal Basic Income for precisely the issues you raised above

We have more mechanisation than ever and yet employment is at a record high. 20 years ago hardly anyone had heard of the internet never mind worked in a related industry. There'll be things in 20 years time employing people that we haven't even dreamt of yet.

I kind of umm and ahh about this one tbh - I see the point that despite all the advances in tech we still stick to the same employment-based economic model and we will likely continue to do so for some time...seems to be part of human nature. However, I do still believe that at some point in the future various tech will advance to the point that the current system becomes outmoded, and has to change drastically.

I ****ing hope so.

The day where we can leave all our work to our robot overlords and spend time more with family & friends / sitting around smoking weed on our universal income can't come soon enough imo.

I used to love my job as a dolphin trainer but it soon loses it's magic.
