Not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere but if Vardy plays on Saturday, he could be facing one of his graduates from his V9 Academy last summer!

Vardy Hosts V9 Academy Press Conference

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy was joined by Peterborough United's Alex Penny at King Power Stadium on Thursday afternoon, as the England international hosted a press conference alongside the V9 Academy graduate.

- Jamie Vardy addressed the media on Thursday to discuss his V9 Academy
- Peterborough United’s Alex Penny, a graduate of the V9 Academy, joined the Leicester City striker
- The Foxes face Peterborough at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup (
12:30pm kick-off)

Penny, 20, signed his first professional contract for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Roundopponents in the summer and the central defender has since gone on to play 11 times for Grant McCann’s side this term.

Following Claude Puel’s pre-match press conference, media from up and down the country were in attendance to quiz the City No.9 about the progress of the V9 Academy and its future prospects, as it enters its second year of talent spotting.

Alex Penny and Jamie Vardy

Alex Penny and Jamie Vardy share a joke in the King Power Stadium tunnel ahead of Saturday's clash with Peterborough.

Vardy, a former non-league player himself, said: “We knew that the first year would be trial and error but we thought it was a massive success getting five players through, so we were always going to try for a second. It is strange.

“People say I am a role model and things like that. I have never gone out there to be that. I managed to get my chance to be a pro and it didn’t really stop.”

At Leicester Vardy will always be a legend but outside of our club there’s a lot of dislike for him. But how many players have tried to give back to the game in a way like this? You might say it’s motivated by self promotion but I think it’s awesome that JV is trying to do something to help other people get as lucky as he did.

Players usually get stick when they are a threat to their team.

Kane for example.

Its strange that you say that. A lot of the people i know are from different countries,  gained from playing online games and of all the ones that love football (some don't for some odd reason) they all know and love Jamie Vardy. Be that they are Barca, Man United or Chelsea fans..

I’ve said it before on this forum, but living in Leeds and working in Huddersfield, in my experience JV is largely admired. When we played huddersfield all the local fans wanted to go and watch Vardy. I don’t think he’s as disliked as many would believe. Also I read somewhere that he’s one of the most popular choices for names on the back of purchased England shirts.

Visit the forums of any other club in the league and you’ll see what I mean. Or even talking to away fans at the pub pre-match. It’s not everyone but it’s surprising how negative the reaction is to him. Chav, diver, c*nt, etc. At the same time a lot of these fans have begrudging respect for him for the goals he scores but it always surprises me.

Obviously I love the guy and can frequently be seen going full kit w*nker with my Vardy 9 shirt in my weekly kickabout!

I've noticed that too. Both him and Maguire, although Vardy in-particular, seem really popular with England fans.

I seen a thread on some other forum, people listing their favourite strikers in world football, and it's absolutely amazing reading things like "Suarez, Cavani, Costa, Messi.... Vardy"

Generally this V9 Academy is disliked by club scouts, agents and lower league clubs.

Vardy’s agent gets a great deal - he has a significant scouting team what finds these players for him, he signs them to his agency and then builds up interest in them.

The club scouts dislike it because they are threatened by them losing their ‘trail’ I.e being ahead of everyone else.

The agents dislike it because an agent is hoovering up the talent.

The clubs dislike it because it puts their players in a larger shopping window when they want to keep their players (could lead to a player running his contract down or staying on non contract terms) but it can also be to the detriment of a player (throwing a player in a team he barely recognises can lead to a poor performance and bigger clubs going cold on them). Add to that Vardy’s agent just wants a transfer deal, irrelevant of the details (for example a non league club could get a good pre season friendly or a sell on fee which might be more financially boosting to the club than the transfer fee).

I agree, but he's undoubtedly hated by football fans less bothered by the national side.

Theyd all love to have him (or a younger version of him).

Football fans hate basically everyone thats not attached to their own club. You can look through our Premier League thread to see that.

St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs makes first two signings with the help of England & Leicester striker Jamie Vardy
By Darren Johnstone -  June 21, 2018 061
St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs has made Josh Heaton and Cody Cooke his first two signings – with the help of England striker Jamie Vardy.

Stubbs watched Darlington defender Heaton and Truro City striker Cooke in a showcase game hosted by the V9 Academy, an initiative that is the brainchild of Leicester marksman Vardy.

The pair were were among 42 non-league players invited on to the programme and played in front of scouts and managers at Manchester City’s Etihad Campus earlier this month.

The Buddies have paid National League North side Darlington what the Paisley outfit have described ‘as the largest fee Saints have paid for a player in around 25 years’ to recruit Heaton, 21, on a three-year deal.

Heaton said: “I can’t wait to get going.

“The thought of playing against the big teams and striving to be the best and play first team football was something that brought me here.

“Every time I step on that park I want to win. I want to keep a clean sheet and I want our strikers to score as many goals as possible. I want to win games and I want to win trophies.”

Saints manager Stubbs said: “I’m absolutely delighted.

“It’s a sign of intent and I’d like to thank the board for putting their trust in me.

“You only have to look at the clubs who were wanting to get Josh and to have got him it’s quite a coup.”

Cooke joins on a two-year deal from Truro having netted 13 goals for the National League South side last season as the part-timers reached the play-offs and the FA Cup first round for the first time in their history.

The 25-year-old was also invited to take part in the V9 Academy showcase programme.

Cooke said: ‘I’m over the moon. It’s a huge opportunity and football is all about opportunities – I want to grab this one with both hands.

“I’m delighted to be here. To get a call from Alan was something that I was just delighted about. I feel ready for the test and it should be an exciting one.”

Great story about the 2 lads signed by St Mirren. The 25-year-old who went from Truro City is a prime example of how you can still make it if you apply yourself. From non-league to the Scottish Premiership. Amazing stuff. Great work by Vardy and his academy as well.

HITC Sport understands Scunthorpe are closing in on non-league winger Andy Dales after he impressed at Jamie Vardy's V9 academy.

Scunthorpe United have agreed a fee with Mickleover Sports for midfielder Andy Dales after he caught their eye during Jamie Vardy's V9 academy earlier this month, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Dales was invited to attend the V9 academy this month as Leicester and England striker Vardy looks to give non-league players the chance to break into league football.

Jamie Vardy of England celebrates after scoring the opening goal during the friendly match between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium on March 27, 2018 in London, England.

The attacking midfielder impressed during the V9 academy as a number of Football League clubs went to scout potential new signings.

Former Derby trainee Dales has impressed at Evo Stik NPL Premier Division side Mickleover Sports over the last couple of seasons and a number of clubs higher up the football pyramid have been keeping tabs on his progress for some time.

Dales scored over 20 goals for Mickleover Sports last season and was named in the Northern Premier League Premier Division team of the year as well as being called up to the England C squad as reward for his impressive performances.

Scunthorpe are hoping to steal a march on their rivals in the pursuit of Dales by agreeing a fee with Mickleover Sports as they are aware several other sides are preparing moves for the attacking midfielder.

Scunthorpe manager Nick Daws is keen to strengthen his squad as he looks to make another push for promotion next season after missing out in the play-offs last term.
