Disgusting, or just business?

It really is disgusting.

I was Leicester mascot away at Ipswich in 01/02 and I'm pretty sure that was free. Why not just have a competition for junior members/season ticket holders for every game?

I had no idea that clubs were even charging until I heard about it on TalkSport yesterday, so fair play to them for bringing it up. It's a hideous display of greed and the disparity between clubs and fans is just going to grow and grow whilst this carries on.

Hang on were we mascots at the same game?! my mates dad who was a director at the club got us there

The only way the club will change is is supporters start writing letters of complaint and raising the issue to a new level through social media.

Pretty disgusting in my opinion.

Disgusting. And a good idea above, i'll probably do this.

The role the players have in all this profiteering always bemuses me. Football, actually our entire country, is all about ripping off the consumer to the highest degree possible until they eventually relent, which is usually a long way away. Part and parcel of living in a corrupt country like the UK.

But i don't get why the players stand for it! They were all supporters/mascots etc not that long ago! If you were a player would you not want to put your hand in your pocket and spend 0.00001% of your annual salary to cover the cost of all mascots for a year?!

Even further, if they love the fans so much, why don't they treat us to an away day once a season! £30 ticket + £30 travel + £10 pie a pint * 3000 = £210,000, about £10,500 between the squad. less than a days wages for some of them!

Poor but not surprising.

Big football clubs are distancing fans and players as much as possible. I’m too young to remember local lads playing for clubs but all the money involved most players are seen as celebrities.

All it is is just clubs distancing themselves and making kids who want to meet their idols for the above reasons

The Article Col has posted is actually very old so this might not still be the case, but those who claiming it's just the way of things and expected should probably read this paragraph. At the time of writing 9 Clubs did not charge at all, and at least another 3 offer some free spaces.

So we are actually in a minority for not offering any free spaces (were things may have changed and obviously many teams of come up and gone down since then)

Some clubs, including Spurs, QPR and Newcastle, do, however, offer a number of free mascot places through competitions and charities. Others do not charge at all: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Southampton and Sunderland.

Notable how even all of the usually more morally bankrupt big clubs think (or at least thought at the time of the article) this kind of shithouse behaviour is beneath even them

Do we know that the monies raised by this policy aren’t part of our charitable donations ??

Doesn't make a difference, even if they are that doesn't make it more accessible to the average kid.

if they aren’t then they bloody well need to be!!!!

Makes no difference. Because even if they are, that means it is you and I stumping up the money for charity, rather than the club. Having kids as mascots carries little if any actual "cost" to the club other than a kit (at cost price) and a couple of tickets (of which they dish out loads anyway).

Does anyone know if the youth teams that get invited to be the flag bearers round the pitch at kick off pay? If they don't and the mascots do, that's bizarre.

Apparently not. It seems from the site that the flag bearers are picked from the "Grassroots scheme" which is FREE (emboldened and in capitals just like on the site, just to show how generous it is) and includes local teams, community groups etc.

I suppose this is why they can justify the paid mascot scheme. They're all about giving back to the community, y'know?

No . My team and club has been flag bearers and player escorts numerous times over the past few seasons...no fees involved just asked the question . Parents are invited also at a reduced price. Two coaches club/officials also in tunnel area also . Must admit kids love it .

Is that the same thing that gets teams cheap tickets in the Family Stand used to get tickets for like 4 quid when I was playing juniors and we were shitter. Fair play if that's still going!

Mascot ting is a joke though. I always assumed it was a free ballot!

I agree and understand this - I just don’t see them changing their policy.

Funnily enough, as someone who was a mascot in 1974, ‘selected at random’ from the junior fox club (though i really wasn’t as my uncle was a club sponsor and it was supposed to be my cousin ‘selected at random’ but we have the same surname !), charging for the privilege now perhaps isn’t so different !  in those days you had the chance to stick the ball passed shilts and receive a pass from the centre forward .....  ? ello, ello...  franky Wortho etc etc

Yes m block in the family stand is full of grassroots teams on certain fixtures. We get offered tickets on certain occasions including last season champions league fixtures although that may have been because we was player escorts.

shameless profiteering.....are we really that hard up for about 80 grand a year?

It often seems like it’s a kudos to be a mascot therefore you have to pay up to £300 for the privalledge of walking out with your child’s heroes, even my lad has said it was steep to pay for that!!

Maybe instead of fleecing fans for the privelledge of your child to walk out with the squad maybe the club could have a database of season ticket club members fans children and do it as a lottery basis as before mentioned our club can’t be desperate for £80k a season especially after our bonuses for CL Placings last season!!??

Come on Lcfc do the right thing make it a wonderful experience for a child to be chosen to be a mascot rather than fleece their parents for the honour !!

My daughter was a mascot for an away game at Sheff Weds a few years ago and we didn't have to pay, good job as we lost 7-1 and she was never asked again.

I wonder if our owners actually know this happens.  Seems daft what they give away mince pies beers t shirts vouchers at away games.

Then pull a stunt like this. Seems more like a Susan Whelan  or some other executive than the owners.

Nah it won't be the owners. They're invloved a lot less than I think a lot of people think.

Funny how everyone's a socialist when it comes to football.

Huh? Who has said anything about putting football into the public sector?
