A really great away win, even if we didn't play as well as we can. a great header by Iborra, who for a small guy is great at getting up for headers. Ndidi's second yellow seemed harsh and he will be really missed when he is suspended. Great penalty save from Kasper  as well as other superb saves and it is always great to keep a clean sheet. If we are to get seventh,  these next few games we need to really go for it and win them

Are you Peter Crouch by any chance?

Brighton were more dangerous up until the missed penalty, they did more for the game and had the more direct approach.

Whereas we never looked like winning for close to 70 minutes, could've easily been 2-0 to the home side before Iborra came up with that perfectly-timed header.

The main problem is that we're a dire side to watch and tend to pass it backwards and sideways for x amount of times, before trying to somehow get near the opposing box.

And usually, we fail miserably, give the ball away, invite the other team to attack swiftly and we concede silly fouls for breaking it up (regardless of what you think of yesterday's referee, our defender's and Ndidi's tackling and timing were poor).

Yet we still won. Could probably have attacked with more purpose first half, agreed. I still feel we had the game under control for longer periods than Brighton.

I was at the game yesterday, and I thought tactically it was interesting.

First of all, I thought Iborra had an absolute stinker (apart from his excellent header). He basically moved 10 yards ahead of the centre circle and 10 yards behind it. I think this was one of our big problems yesterday, the lack of movement led us into playing in straight lines, in a way that wasnt penetrative. Brighton largely kept their shape without having to do a lot, and this led to lots of possession in areas that were not hurtful. So the first half, unfortunately we just didnt seem "at it".

He also doesnt show enough willingness to work hard out of possession. This is something im seeing more from Leicester in recent games too. Players (to me) dont seem interested enough in the ugly stuff, a willingness to run back, pressure the ball. I totally understand we are moving more towards a passive pressing style and cutting off passing lanes, but its becoming more apparent we need to do more out of possession and for me, Iborra doesnt do enough.

But

In the second half, the addition of Diabate for Okazaki was crucial in us getting a foothold. If we are going to play intricate, passing football, as much as i like him we will have to bin off Okazaki. He just cant receive the ball in tight areas with a good touch, or display the necessary vision to then make a pass in the number 10 role. Diabate opened things up with small, clever movement that disrupted Brighton's shape and he was always available for a pass.

So the second half was a vast improvement from that perspective.

However......i still think in situations like the first half, we should STILL look for a direct ball forward at times, if nothing else but to make one of their defenders go and head it or clear it and cause some confusion in their shape or try and pick up the seconds. I really do applaud what Puel is trying to do with us, but i think were going too much the other way at the moment, too static, too slow at times.

The other thing i thought wasnt helping yesterday, was Mahrez coming TOO FAR inside from the right side (and then the left). Cutting in whilst dribbling is dangerous. But occupying space in the middle for me just leaves us open to an overload, and it clutters the middle of the pitch. I LOVE Mahrez receiving the ball wide and cutting at pace with options to pass or pop a shot off, but his tactical ill discipline yesterday contributed to the bad first half i thought.

Having said that....

It was a great win in a tough game. Of course we rode our luck, Murray missed two guilt edged chances. But i was pleased we stuck at it and grafted out a win. It showed good spirit and good character, and the two goals we scored were excellent.

We ARE moving in the right direction. We become a fluid almost 343 with the ball, this is something very unique to me watching us. Simpson was playing so high at times, ive really not seen that in many games. So it gives me optimism with new full backs, they will become a big strength of our team. Diabate was a good find. This gives me good optimism that Macia and Puel have a good handle on what we need in the summer.

Brighton is a disappointing away trip too in my opinion. A nice ground, but a bizarre location and a very lukewarm atmosphere. Chicken nuggets at a football match? 8.50 for a pie and pint of lager? sheeeesh

Yes I found it a very frustrating place, got to Brighton at 12, couldn’t find a place to park the car for ages, finally after driving round in circles, found a car park in London rd.

After parking up and heading towards the train station, we tried to get a pint in the pub opposite, only to be told Home supporters only, tried the next pub same again, asked the doorman where we could get a pint he said down the road there is a Wetherspoons, after what seemed an age we found it, 2 quick pints headed back to the train station, which could only be described as a cattle market.

Got on the train, and got speaking to a few Brighton fans, who said the last time Leicester was down here they stopped the trains due to fighting( anybody clarify this?) I could see why though , as in , if the game was highly charged it’s not always a good idea to mix fans.

As for the game we have become to predictable,  to much sideways passing then down the wing for either Albrighton or Chilwell to put a hopeless ball in the box for nobody to attack.

If we are to persist with this Diabate is a must as he is the only player who can break the line and open more space up for Mahrez.

Thought the first three quarters of the game were abysmal, and worryingly reminiscent to watching us under Shakespeare towards the end under him. In fairness I don't think we looked too bad defensively, but going forward we were horrible. We were laboured on the ball and clueless off it.

Brighton got their penalty just as I thought we were getting back into it. Wasn't at all surprised they got a penalty and was expecting it to end 1-0 to them as I'd said at half time.

But if we're going to criticise Schmeichel for losing the Chelsea game, then we're going to have to give him a huge amount of credit for us winning this one. You'd have laughed if someone had suggested we would run out 0-2 winners when Murray stepped up.

Poor penalty, but a good save as well.

We took our chances, plain and simple, we didn't have many of them but what little we had we were ruthless with. Iborra's header is superb, exactly what I want to see from him. I'd be surprised if since coming up there's a single side in the league who's centre midfielders score as little as ours, so it's good to see him on the scoresheet again. 3 goals for him in 16 games. That's a pretty solid ratio.

Think Chilwell deserves a lot of credit, think Gray did very well for our 2nd, but once again, Diabate catches my eye. He isn't quite as skilful as Mahrez but he's just such a positive player and I really like watching him. I'd actually start him next week. He's earned it.

Thought Brighton's fans were a bitter bunch after the game as well. This rhetoric that they've battered us is well overplayed. They probably edged it, but how much did they really create? The penalty obviously is the big one, but the rest of their efforts were from distance. No way will they go down though. They're comfortably better than sides like Stoke and West Brom.

Thought the officials were appalling in what was another bad weekend for the league's officiating. It's an absolute joke that Ndidi's missing two games while Mane and Vertonghen won't be out next week. A complete joke that you can't appeal red cards that were for two yellows. A complete joke that Duffy will probably not get any retrospective ban when he's dived to con the officials into getting his team an advantage.

It flattered us, but ultimately it's a very, very good result and we needed it as well with Burnley winning again. They've been very good at home so I was pleasantly surprised.

Now time to sort our home record out. It's a tricky one next week. Newcastle are a steady side defensively.

It's an odd place Brighton. Can't think of anywhere quite like it. I mean fair play to them in the sense they've at least tried to compensate for the shite location of their ground (which is more than can be said for some clubs, such as Coventry) but it would annoy me having to do that every home game. It's way too far from town.

My favourite quote from the Brighton message board pre-match....

"It's not a top six club so I hope we can all get excited about this game. Some may think it's just a matter of turning up but this is a club who, in reality, are our equal and so I'm expecting a good game."

Especially funny since basically all we did was turn up.

Reading this made me realise how many small clubs there are in the PL nowadays. Brighton, Hudderdield, Palace, Burnley, Swansea, Watford, Bournemouth. Never seen a Premier League with so many clubs who have historically spent the last number of decades in the lower divisions.

Not sure it's that much worse than several groups over the years. I just choose a few random seasons are there were plenty of smaller teams.

12-13 QPR, Reading, Wigan, Stoke, Fulham, Swansea, West Brom

09-10 Birmingham, Blackburn, Stoke, Fulham, Bolton, Wigan, Burnley, Hull, Portsmouth

I know it's great seeing the smaller teams punching above their weight eh?  X

I accept that might also be the case, in which case I hope they have a think when people react/respond negatively. I would also say that some people do have the capacity, but can be lazy, careless or don't actually give a f**k until they are called out.

Don't see intentions behind others mistakes . ? But your pretty good peaky ?
