Leicester City defender Darnell Johnson has become the latest young England player to consider moving abroad to further his career.

Johnson, 19, has failed to agree terms to stay at the King Power beyond the summer and is the subject of interest from Dutch clubs Ajax and NEC Breda.

It follows the trend of European sides trying to sign graduates from Premier League academies who are regarded as technically better than their predecessors.

Look forward to seeing him in 2 years time then on my bi-annual trip to watch Dutch football lol wonder why he's turned us down, assume he wants game time.

We should have at least loaned him out to get some experience. I'm not an expert, but playing against professionals is surely more beneficial than playing unexperienced players in your own age group.

the experience for his development is definitely the most important thing for him now, not like he needs a few years to get ready for mens football; he's a feckin unit

Should get a look in at right back. Especially if we don't get a result at Burnley.

We need a new right back and it'd be time to see what some younger players can do.

I don't care how ungrateful I sound given he was previously an excellent player for us, but if I never see Danny Simpson in a Leicester shirt again, that is fine with me.

If academy players move abroad I'm assuming that we won't be receiving any pound notes . Seems wrong if so - we have developed him as a player at our expense

We will get compensation because of his age

It's a bit of a catch 22 situation. If a player 'needs development' but they're constricted to U23s football, then they're missing out on an opportunity to develop.

As his parent club, Leicester should either give him a chance to get some first-team appearances under his belt or send him out on loan like we did with Barnes, Chilwell and Choudhury.

If Johnson isn't being told that either of those things will happen, then he's not getting assurances about his progression to the first team and I wouldn't blame him for considering his options.

If all the coaching staff at the club don't think he's ready to progress, even to a League One or Championship side on loan, then it's probably best for us and him to let him go and prove himself elsewhere. If he ends up being a world beater, it wouldn't be the first or last time a club has failed to predict how one of their youth players would turn out.

However, I would be a bit annoyed if the U23s had kept him in order to prioritise their PL2 campaign, rather than sending him out on loan. The PL2 means diddly squat, and stifling a player's development would be bad for both parties.

he's the one that leaked to the press about unrest in the squad.

'failed to agree terms' is a polite way of putting it.

Are you ITK about the whole situation? Anything you could shed some light on? Shame its come to this but it is odd that we have prioritised the U23 league over actual development this year. Wouldn't be supprised if the U23 managment asked Puel to play Maguire in midfield so they could keep Choudhury at U23 level.

Isn’t he naturally a CB that’s playing RB? Doubt he could solve our problems at RB tbh

That is apparently one of the reasons he wants to leave, as he prefers to play at CB, but is being forced to play RB

A season With Big Nige should sort him out...

Any more news on Darnell?  He was one of the members of the development squad that I was most looking forward to seeing break into the first team.

I know he was linked with a move away in April, but last I saw was that he had been offered a new deal by the Foxes.  That was at the start of June - anything changed?
