Cult Heroes XI

With all the talk of who and who might not be a club legend, what about those players who could be described as having cult status.

 

They might not be the most gifted player but gave their all, maybe they had one heroic moment which lives long in the memory. There is no Walsh, Lineker, Izzet or Vardy in this team, just players you remember fondly, would always get a good reception at the KP and would have us queuing up to buy them a drink.

 

GK - Pegguy Arphexad, penalty king and (not) porn star

 

LB - Wasyl, OK not a left back but I had to fit him in

CD - Tony James, for THAT goal against Oxford

CD - Gary Coatsworth, thunderbolt goals and the assist for Walshys first play off final goal against Derby

RB - Frank Sinclair, great defender, you'd never beat him one on one, just had the occasional errr.. own goal in his locker

 

MF - Lloyd Dyer, just for being Lloyd, one minute world class the next school class

MF - Anthony Knockaert, you just gotta love him

MF - Billy McKinlay, for playing for free and being brilliant, the player we should have signing to replace Neil Lennon

MF - Tommy Wright, Ooo Tommy Wright!!

 

ST - Kevin Russell, RRRRRRRROOOOOOOSTER!!!!

ST -  Ian Marshall, looked like a pub player but played his part in some memorable games (Atletico Madrid, Derby etc)

 

Ok I know this team would get relegated on about 10 points and I've probably missed out another 20 players more deserving, but just a bit of fun and if your inclined lets hear your Cult XI's

GK - Peggy - The Chelsea Game and Leggings that looked like tights

RB - Pontus Kaamark - Cool dude, quality player, strong character just a shame his impact was delayed by injury

LB - Schlupp - Like a cartoon creation, could play CF, LB or LW but had the game management skills of a three year old. Would get himself into some great situations with his pace but as soon as decision making became involved....it's lottery time!

CB - Coatsworth, uncompromising, played ugly, looked a bit like my Science Teacher

CB - Walshy - Gave everything he had and then some. A dirty B****** but he was our dirty *******

DM - Ramsey, no one points and claps like a late era Ramsey

RM - Lynex, "Give us a wave Stevie", he obliges, ball flies past him. We know how good he was but wider world stop at Lineker, Smith and..

LM - Wise....oh sorry CULT.....Laurie Cunningham, like a footballing Harlem Globetrotter he played the game like no one else

AM - Nalis - Decent shot, girls name, girls hair

CF - Gunlaugson - Shoots like Zidane, looks like Ming off Flash Gordon

CF - Jari - Any player who has his debut delayed whilst they manufacture shorts big enough for his ass gets my vote.

Shout-outs for Mark Wallington and Bob Lee, (I played cricket with them a few times); Dave Buchanan ‘cos I thought he was doing to become Pele; Bobby Smith - that hair!!; Lloydy  - ‘nuff said; and Super Steve because he hugged me at Palace when we beat Dons in the semi. Which is how I ended up when he hugged me !!!
