Oh Jeez - it was merely a throwaway glib, facetious comment given that we've purchased an injured player that won't be able to start the season - and if you really wish to take it that literally, it was incorrect anyway, because he won't be out for half the season either. I absolutely agree that FT needs to mellow out...early onset of forum menopause.

Who says he can't start the season? He played in the friendly with OHL apparently and looks very comfortable training

ffs. Start panicking after 10 games in

huth out Evans in

only one recognised RB perraira in

crying out for a number 10 Maddison in

hamer out ward in

mahrez out a billion rumours in

lods of deadwood still on the books. Before the World Cup everyone was wanking over how well we started the transfer window. Yes it’s gone dry with ins but ffs they’re on pre season letting Puel decide what he needs. Some clubs haven’t made one bloody signing yet so people just need to chill out, we’re not PSG, real, Barca or Man City and can just buy whoever we want.

Be realistic and patient this club club is run well. Put us as easily top 10 from 3 years ago and we’d have had boners at the thought.

Dont panic buy just for for the sake of it it’s not champ manager we’re playing!

That was my first thought when I read the OP.

I'll confess, when the first couple of transfers happened so quickly, I did start to think we were going for a complete overhaul with maybe 6 or 7 players coming in but that was wishful thinking by the looks of it. We have addressed some glaring issues with the signatures of Evans, Perreira and Maddison though. I'd hope we have one big transfer left in us to add to the creativity in the starting 11. If we can do that, I think I'd be reasonably happy but the rumour mill has gone pretty quiet.

I totally agree with you regarding panic buys. We've had our pants pulled down a few times over the last couple of years and we really don't want that to continue.

Indeed.

Not as bad as first feared. But being eased into a friendly against a Belgian First Division B side that we own is little more than a training run out itself.

I hope you're right and I'm sure that his introduction won't be unnecessarily premature.

The fact that we haven’t replaced Mahrez with another wide player doesn’t mean we haven’t replaced Mahrez.

Our model of the last 3 seasons has been pretty unusual in that we’ve largely operated with a 4-4-2(ish) formation where 80% of our creativity comes from the man on the right of midfield. As we found particularly in the 16/17 season it’s too easy to shut down that sort of system with some organised pressure, whereas a move to a system with a more traditional number 10 might make it harder to shackle our creativity.

Maddison is not a like-for-like replacement for Mahrez in terms of

position or proven creativity. But there are only 5-10 comparable wide right players in the world to Mahrez and they sure-as-shit aren’t coming to Leicester. So we can persevere with our weird lop-sided 4-4-2 but necessarily downgrade our one source of creativity or we can change the entire structure to increase the team’s creativity in other parts of the pitch.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see us line up with a diamond midfield for a good chunk of our games next season with Maddison I’m behind Gray and Diabate and Albrighton converted to a Matt-Oakley style inside-right central midfield player.

I think if the right player comes along we’ll go for him but don’t be surprised if our intended replacement for Mahrez is already here.

I'm worried we have already brought in three players with no prem experience and are looking at either young players or players from abroad still

Going to take time to gel and even longer to adapt and I doubt everyone will be able to cut it

Got to say I’m more worried about our fan base.

We have made 4 excellent signings already, and we have a crop of exciting youth players and players returning from loan to look at.

The squad as is stands is enormous. It’s atleast 8-10 players top heavy. So I’m sure we need to clear a few out before too many more come in.

I support the direction of travel. We’ve tried big money signings and very few have come off. We do appear more measured this summer. We needed a RB - it’s been addressed with a highly rated player who featured at the WC. We needed a new CB - we’ve signed a proven PL player. We needed competition for Kasper - we’ve signed some one who from what I’ve seen from Liverpool fans is highly regarded. We needed a number 10 - we’ve signed one of the hottest young English talents out there.

Mall of the areas fans have been moaning about have been addressed. I’m lost as to what fans expect these days.

Agree about the size of our squad. It’s too big and contains too much mediocrity for football at this level. It needs trimming down quickly before we sign even more players.

imo.

What @ttfn says.

Talk of a Mahrez replacement does my head in (besides, if we wanted one of those we'd be recruiting in airport waiting lounges, ho ho). The team needs reshaping and rebalancing. We're in the process of doing that.  Let's just chill a bit and see what comes of it.

It's easy to worry when there's a distinct possibility that Schmeichel and Maguire could ask to leave and the possibility of Vardy being seriously pissed off as a consequence and do the same. However, this is the plight many mid table PL teams face when bigger clubs want their star players without doing much scouting and due diligence on lesser known targets. The only way to keep your best players is through ambition, progression and as much bunce as you can afford. We are at a very crucial part of our era back in the PL and you can't help but feel if the owners are determined to build a lasting dynasty here in the top flight that we have to get it right next season or we risk serious problems.

The core title winning side is now pretty much dismantled, the unique togetherness and bond that they had should not be underestimated. You lose that and a few game changers and fighting relegation will be on the horizon. On one hand it's been felt that the players of stature at this club have had too much power and influence and aren't open to change, yet if that really is the case and they don't buy in to Puel's philosophy on top of us losing Mahrez and potentially a few others and it doesn't bare thinking about. We somehow need to all be behind Puel otherwise this whole summer is just a waste of time and it'll be a horrible autumn and winter and survival mode.

We have known for well over a year that Mahrez wanted to move on, during Ranieri/Shakespeare and Puel's reign there was very little attempt to bring in more creativity from different positions and finally Puel has got a number 10 in Maddison. If he can replace Mahrez with a player who will give us at least some end product and creativity then the gap could be plugged and a more all round team contribution could follow. I am very excited by Ricardo Pereira's arrival, we now have 2 full backs who can move with the ball very quickly and support attacks, it makes us a harder team to counteract now. It was easy to sit back against us last season and let us have the ball out wide, where as now with Maddison pulling the midfield and defence from the middle and full backs pushing on we could see some real variation in our play which is much needed.

I am part positive for next season and part fearful we'll implode. One thing's for sure, we still need to bring 1 or 2 more in without losing any of our key players and also move on at least half a dozen fringe players. We've less than 3 weeks for incomings and a few more to get rid of the likes of Musa, Slimani and Mendy but we could well do without the disruption of Maguire and Kasper being courted. Long term I think central midfield is a weakness and left wing even if we bring in someone decent at right wing. I also think we need another centre half but it feels like right now just to get through to the end of the window with a right winger coming in and not losing any of our main players would be seen as a huge relief and success.

Anyone with a brain could see Puel is a disaster waiting to happen. He replaced Sadio Mane with Nathan Redmond at Southampton ffs

He wasn't in charge of recruitment at Southampton and he's not in charge of recruitment here. If you don't like him fine, but can people at least focus on things he has full control of... recruitment not being one of them.

I find it slightly concerning that, having had 2 years to prepare for the sale of Mahrez, we don't appear to have a direct replacement lined up.

Of course we'll have had a list of replacements in mind, what we can't alter is whether they move elsewhere first, the clubs don't want to sell, the player doesn't want to come etc. We might need to ship more players out before we can bring people in, as we were expecting to have got rid of more by now. But realistically those transfers won't happen until later in the window, as clubs know we want rid and will bid late knowing we'll need to accept a cheap quick deal.

The new keeper arrived within about 24/48 hours of his name first being mentioned, wasn't on the radar of anyone. The chances are there are numerous things going on right now, just because we don't know about them doesn't mean everyone should panic.

When will I get worried?

With thirteen seconds to go on the clock before the summer transfer window closes and we haven't brought a few more players in and shipped a fair amount out (either on a permanent or on loan). In the first case, in two weeks' time, and in the second case, as the final minute on the last day of August approaches...

When you read people rejoicing at the return of Andy King you know expectations are very low

Or maybe it's simply down to people rejoicing the return of Andy King.

I'm not panicking yet, plenty of time. We've got a shitload of work to do in that time though on both incomings and outgoings.

And me. Need more goals from midfield to make up for loss of RM, so it's easy to tell; no goals from midfield after 10 games, then it's really time to really worry.
