We'll play a lot worse than that and win games. Constantly took the game too them and never showed any fear.

The Pen was unfortunate but then we should have had one too. But Refs bottle it in old Trafford and Mourinho has them frightened.

Stay positive and move on to the next game.

Not too sure I agree with that. De gea made 2 cracking saves, Vardy would usually put that volley away, Nacho  probably should have got a penalty and we scored. How many really good chances can any team be expected to create at Old Trafford.  Despite all the stuff in the papers about discontent at Man U, they are still a Mourinho side, solid at the back and it's Man U at Old Trafford... Neither side at full strength but still we had a good go.

The bolded bit is exactly what I said though so it's important to see if we can put lesser teams to the sword a bit more. Two good games coming up to see where we're really at.

As for De Tea making two cracking saves, they're saves you'd really expect him to be making - the Gray one I'd be very disappointed to see any PL keeper let in. Schmeichel made comfortably the save of the game.

Reading bbc sport and mourinho going on about how they played well against a team that invested more than they did. And that he needed 6 subs not 3. We may have invested more than them but not through lack of then trying also needs to realise he spent 90 mil or what ever it was on one player. The Guy is crazy

We shouldn’t really get in to stats. We pretty much defied them in our title winning season. Only stats that matter at the end of the season are the points on the board.

No you shouldn’t go into the stats tonight. Your defence of Wes and especially Amartey would somewhat show you up.

And if you look at players we both bought that actually played, we spent about £50m, they spent £55m (only on Fred) so it's a bit of a silly point for him to make.

Decent play but why was Amartey picked .Bizarre and if I hear anyone else praise Chilwell I will scream he can run he can beat a man on occasions but he cannot pick his head up and play a decent cross.I can do that you pick a man or a space and knock it in .We got some decent balls from the other side .later in the game but maybe 12 cross balls came to nothing earlier.

Very pleased with how we won the ball back quick though paid for the effort extended later on but  not bad overall

Encouraging display, especially the way we zipped it around and had United chasing shadows in the first half. But, for all the positives, life under Puel seems alas to be a permanent case of 'opportunity missed' (League Cup exit v Man City, FA Cup exit v Chelsea, missing out on Europa League, losing to Spurs at Wembley, now this.....).

positives: Ricardo, Maddison, another Vardy goal, Chilwell's runs, cohesion as a team, dominant first half.

negatives: Losing to an average United team, Chilwell's crosses, Silva and Ndidi's passing, Amartey and Morgan's sloppy defending.

So we disregard any chances created when United were sitting back because they were already winning? That's pretty poor analysis. Any chances when United were sitting and defending (if anything) are probably higher quality worked chances than ones on the counter given they're already defensively set. xG as I'm sure you know accounts for distance from goal and difficulty of an effort on target, so no, I don't say anything of the sort.

No that's not at all what I said. I said it skews it and if you look at stats in context of what was happening in the game then you get a much better idea of things - not disregarding anything. I say that the 0.5 xG is far closer to being representative of what we looked like doing throughout the course of the game. If I was the manager taking training on Monday, I wouldn't be saying to them, well lads that was all fine look at our xG stat, I'd be saying we had a couple of decent openings whilst we were still in the game but we've got to be creating more and better opportunities for ourselves.

I was quick to slate Chilwell last season but I’ll give him his dues today, he was excellent apart from his crossing - which he has not improved on one bit, it’s awful. If he wants to become a top LB he needs to hit a team mate for a change.

Overall I’m not as convinced going forwards as others. Yes there were positives but also some negatives I believe. I still think we looked slow on the ball at times, more so in the second half, and kept giving the ball away in midfield. Certain individual performances were poor as well like Amartey, Morgan and Silva. Pleased with Maddison and Pereira and arguably worth a point on the day. On this evidence I see a mid table finish. I don’t see us being in trouble but I’m not massively excited either

I've not seen Madison do anything that changes my mind, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Saying that, we played probably our best and manure at its worst, that says something

I genuinely think that if you won 10 million on the lottery you'd be miserable because it wasn't 11 million.

Why was Amartey preferred to Simpson?

An encouraging performance but I do worry about the final ball.

And Mourinho is a tool. Dull, boring, men behind the ball, at Old Trafford. And then to make out Man U haven't been spending. I look forward to his sacking in a few months.

Honestly thought we were the better team not to much to complain about. Amartey had a brain fart and we lack a little bit of creativity. We made them look like a poor team at times.

we almost certainly won’t win the league again! but if that’s the Sort of football we play most weekends I think we will enjoy this season.

Standard utd loss at OT. Not the worst performance and thought we were worth a draw. Not ever going to get a decision at OT, it's standard when u go to top 6. There will be times we don't get that at home. Onwards and upwards as a better possession performance

Generally very good, I thought. Negatives: Amartey links up well but there were serious errors today (only 23, though, and still learning to play at RB), Silva was poor (which is perhaps more worrying because he's one of our most experienced players), Iheanacho was flat on his heels at times, Chilwell (who really impressed me for the most part) has to work on delivery, or look for alternatives when he's in good positions. And be careful of passing for passing's sake, there were spells when our own clumsiness in possession was responsible for all of Man U's attacking play. You have to be Barcelona for some of the things we were trying to come off.

I'm not sure why Ghezzal is coming in for so much stick even if there were a few errors, nor why people would single out Morgan for criticism when there were comparable errors made all over the park.

Pereira was excellent in more offensive positions. Maguire and Gray also very strong. Chilwell too.

Overall, and for a side with an average age of 24.8 (our youngest on the opening day of a season in decade, and our youngest top flight side in three decades), I felt we matched them. As for why we lost, well, the ref was poor and to our detriment, we didn't take all of our chances (in terms of both chances and final ball) and a couple of players looked like they were caught a touch cold against top quality opposition.

I should add there that I tend to detest people highlighting refereeing performances AND I've seen far worse refs than today's. I just felt, without there being any bias whatsoever, that a few critical and debatable decisions (penalty aside) hurt us today.

Anyway, we shouldn't dwell on that. Let's give this a few games - time for players to bed in, time for us all to see how they fare against a broader spectrum of sides, time to see how luck evens out - before we get too excited either way. Still, we should feel positive about today. There are the makings of a side and, as PL teams begin to gel and iron out the errors in the early weeks of the season, we have every chance of keeping up.

Man U were fortunate to come out of that with a win, even if you ignore meaningless possession and focus on the goalscoring opportunities. If our main aims are to steer well clear of the drop zone and possibly push the top six if all works out swimmingly, then it wasn't an opening game which dispelled those targets. And opening games can do that (see Bolton 2001!).

Should have started with Pereira, Simmo or Johnson at RB, Amartey is not a RB.

Thought taking off Maddison killed off our attacking threat somewhat too, despite the goal. Would have preferred to see a straight swap - Iheanacho for Vardy.

Lots of promise though, we dominated for spells. Bring on Wolves.

Why is that?  What did Wes do wrong precisely?

Wish more reporters would pull him up some of these BS moans. A quick what is the Man U wage bill though compared to Leicester would be a start.
