Richard Keys suggesting Vardy has no character, and will let people down later in life, because of Jamie's England decision.

Is this the same Richard Keys, who was caught nobbing a 20 year old, whilst his wife of 25 years was seriously ill in hospital?

I wonder if he said the same about Paul Scholes and Alan Shearer, both of whom retired when younger than Vardy and first-team regulars?

Once again one of most talented strikers of the last few years, offering something different to the rest, isn't given a fair crack due to who he plays for and the fact he isnt a 'popular' style. Still stand by Vardy would've got a significantly more prominent role had he been at a top 6 club.

Not sure why he picked sterling as a CF, given he plays predominantly on the wing for city, would've been cleverer to use a Vardy there.

Don't blame him at all. He got his dream of playing for England and at a WC. Why travel 1000's of miles a year to just sit on a bench and miss out of key time with his kids.

Agree...one other beautifully point, even fans who hate  to see him play against them..When he used to come on for England,or his name,

was mentioned...He always got a great reception and a roar went around the stadium ,and I guess like many city fans, and pundits had their exciting anticipation crushed, when He wasnt used correctly. Here English PL fans, and even Germans, use to say.. "Why oh why" when you select Vardy and don't use his

Strengths, that frighten the oppo, more than some of the obvious foreign stars....Never doubt it,again English managers had a tool a rescource, they

Just couldn't see,or had no idea how to steal that advantage...

It was always saddening watching him being pushed out on the wing or in a restricted forward role. Once again we let such a huge talent go to waste by not playing to his strengths or letting him play

If anyone should know the characteristics about someone who is likely to let you down in later life then it's Richard Keys.

Great decision.. England will never win anything,  so leave playing for them to the likes of Tottenham players who are used to the experience!

To be fair, 5 years ago, I’d have said Leicester will never win anything.

If I were Jamie Vardy, I’d have most likely made the same decision. He doesn’t match the style of play we’re adopting, the DNA as they call it.

I personally think you could field a team of England “rejects” / 2nd team players with the likes of Vardy, Shelley, Wilshire, Smalling, Gomez, Tarkowski, Clyne, Bertrand, Ward-Prowse, Wilson, Murray, Cook, Cahill (now) , Sessongson, Chilwell, Gunn, Lookman, Winks, Hart, Roberts, Barnes, Drinkwater, Maddison etc etc ..... would have given England, a tougher game than most of our World Cup oppenents, it player with a direct style.

I don't think it's a good decision for England. Sadly he wasn't getting game time from Southgate - who is a myopic manager - and probably wouldn't have. However his strike rate is far superior to other England players and he offers something the others don't.

He has 4 years left with us so could easily have continued with England for most of those.

Absolutely bang on,perfectly put in a nutshell.England have no one that can do what Jamie does.We don`t have anyone who can score goals like his against Germany,or for City against Liverpool, Spurs and especially W.B.A.

Harry Kane is superb but in my opinion the two together would have been awesome.Sadly we will never see it, just seems such a waste. What a player!

Danny Murphy in a nutshell! He was so contradicting not even the panel could reply lol

I understand what his point is though.

If you’re travelling around, as a squad member, is it worth it? It’s not like he’s getting paid to do that.

Vardy builds his game around speed, agility and sharpness. Travelling around to play in a friendly game or some qualifier against San Marino, where let’s be honest, he isn’t going to play anyway, isn’t really helpful. A World Cup is different, you’d want to be involved in that.

The club pays his wages, he wants to prolong that.

Maybe that little injury he got whilst st the World Cup, made him consider this.

Before the World Cup, how many on here, in the shoes of Jamie Vardy, would be realising a chance to go and sit on the bench, as your team mates were playing someone like Ukraine, Azerbaijan, San Marino or Russia away.

Personally, I’d rather spend that week, having downtime with the family and friends.

I would have kept Vardy with England, just to scare the opposition with the size of his arm lol

Essentially, this.

To play in tournament football you (usually) had to play a part in qualifying beforehand. By the time the next tournament rolls around, Vardy will be 33 and probably wouldn't be picked anyway. So why waste the effort travelling for meaningless qualifiers you're unlikely to play in just to get the team to a tournament you won't be selected for.

Add in the fact that he's never been used properly by England and the decision at this point in his career is a no-brainer.

Makes me sad that we won't see him in another tournament. I might be able to enjoy England games a bit more now, as I usually just sit there pissed off because he's sat on the bench. It also means we won't have any more insufferable twats rattling on about everyone at England hating him. Bizarre as it may be, he was fourth behind Kane, Sterling and Rashford, all of whom are much younger than him.

Also think of it this way: this guy had the chance to join Arsenal two years ago, but now he's so committed to Leicester that he's signed a huge new deal and packed in playing for England.

I haven't read through all the responses to this topic but I'm getting the feeling, given how CP is setting up his team, that JV will not fit in here either. He's a long ball collector and plays off the shoulder of the last defender. From what I've seen so far, that is not the way Puel wants us to play. That is not the way England play either. I can see JV going elsewhere in the next window or end of season.

I can't, and would never, deny what he has done for us in his time here. He should be recognised as a major contributor to our PL title. He might even be a bigger legend than our own Gary, mainly because Lineker was seduced away from us by a "bigger" club. JV wasn't. He stuck with us, maybe because if he went elsewhere, he might become a bit player, like Drinkwater. Even so, he stayed. He hasn't had the impact or presence that he has had in the last 3 years and I think that's because we are starting to adopt a different style of play.

I don't necessarily think that his ending his ties with England will lead on to leaving us but it's entirely possible given CP's team set up. Whatever happens and wherever he goes next, (if he goes), we should all wish him the absolute best.

Good guy.

Clearly his wanking arm ;)

As a Leicester fan Im happy hes not playing for england anymore, he never really was given a good run in the team or used in the right way. He should at least have been given 2 or 3 friendly matches where a formation was set up to get him and kane in the same team and  then  given full 90 minutes in each game to see them both together. But also as a england fan and listening to what they have both said,  did vardy actually retire or did southgate retire him simply due to him being over 30. If he has I think thats crazy considering we dont really have any other consistent english strikers in the prem and he is only 31.

I think he has totally made the right decision. He is only ever going to be used as an impact sub by Southgate and at 31 (33 by the Euros) who wants to be that?

He can concentrate on his LCFC career for a while now and rest up and watch it on the TV like the rest of us.

He can then celebrate his move to LA for one last pay day before retirement to accompany the launch of the Vardy movie!

The world cup, I assume, was a big eye opener for him. After being the second top English scorer and playing the vast majority of games for his club, he'd come into the WC thinking he'd be number 2 to Kane and would get game time, that being sub appearances or starting. When actually he seemed to almost be the 4th striker; behind both Sterling and Rashford.

Yes, sterling had a great season, but being played as a winger, not a CF. Rashford being regularly used on the wing for Utd or not at all and being fairly inconsistent at scoring. JV would be quite annoyed at that given his scoring record over the last few seasons.

I can't remember the point he was making regarding something else as I was only semi-watching this the other night, but Lennon absolutely took him apart over one of his weird opinions.

It’s like all the pundits malfunctioned when we won the leage and whenever I name pops up they start going weird lol

I think it's no coincidence that Cahill announced his retirement the same day, just before the squad was going to be picked for the next internationals. I reckon Southgate took them to one side and told them he was going to concentrate on youth and they probably wouldn't be in his future plans. He's given them the chance to retire with dignity rather letting the papers say they're finished when they weren't named in the squad.
