No doubt we'll get the usual "Let the country down" bollocks from people who thought he was shit and shouldn't play anyway.

I thought we were the only ones who sang that stupid song?

This is just brilliant (From The Guardian):

Asked how he thinks he is perceived as a person, Vardy replies: “Probably a twat.”

Pushed to elaborate on that answer amid a fair bit of laughing, Vardy says: “I’m a nightmare on the pitch, aren’t I? I get abuse from opposition fans and give it back to them. But that’s just me – and that’s how it should be; it’s only a bit of banter. Tottenham’s fans last season were singing something about my wife in the jungle, within a minute I scored and they never said a word about me for the rest of the game. At West Brom I always go to the same corner after scoring. There was a photo from the season before, the faces are all the same. Their middle fingers are exactly the same.”

God, we'd hate it if he were scoring against us every season.

Danny Murphy has already played that tune. No surprise there, then.

You know I've stopped saying this "so and so has it in for us" but Danny Murphy is the exception to the rule. The bloke despises Leicester. Proper weirdo.

The thing is, as I see it, is that whilst Southgate, whilst not getting carried away, is doing an ok job but, there are still the old team selection biases for me as the World Cup showed. Sterling for example on the back of a good season probably deserved a chance but again, without the magnificent skills of his city players around him came up short yet again! Yet the reliable and dynamic Vardy who has consistently been this countries there or thereabouts second top scoring striker for  2 or 3 seasons now didn't get a sniff. How convenient perhaps that he gets type cast as a player who can only play in one role. He's far better than that but even if it was true, perhaps if Southgate had taken Shelvey instead of both Henderson and the ineffectual Dyer we'd have perhaps had a more dynamic midfielder who could have fed Vardy.

Vardy has a wife and lovely young family, why would he want to travel half way round the world just to train, sit on a bench and be ignored by the manager who probably only picked him in the first place because he would have looked a complete twat and get vilified by the press if he hadn't. For all the hype and despite the good to see the team spirit confidence and togetherness, it was the same old guff, easy qualifying stage, easy group stage then lose against any decent team, for was it ever thus! Vardy is better off without them, they are not worthy of him and it will be our gain. I  also thought he did it in a clever face saving way by saying he'd turn out for his country if they were short due to injury ? so up yours Southgate you big nosed twat!

Once again one of most talented strikers of the last few years, offering something different to the rest, isn't given a fair crack due to who he plays for and the fact he isnt a 'popular' style. Still stand by Vardy would've got a significantly more prominent role had he been at a top 6 club.

Not sure why he picked sterling as a CF, given he plays predominantly on the wing for city, would've been cleverer to use a Vardy there.

Don't blame him at all. He got his dream of playing for England and at a WC. Why travel 1000's of miles a year to just sit on a bench and miss out of key time with his kids.

I for one am sad as he gave England something different a plan B. I could never turn my back on my country and still haven't (Ha-ha) but understand why he has done it.

He was never able to play his natural game for England if Harry was on the field they would pass to Harry and never seemed too passed to him. England midfield was not setup to get the best out of Vardy!

Sad day though! :scarf:

I would think Jamie must have been very frustrated over the summer and even when he has been in the team he rarely gets the service that Kane and others have.Probably the right decision in the long term.A friend of mine added that his style of play suits Leicester more than England and I agree.Of course we are perhaps not the counter attacking side that we were with a bit more possession and passing but hopefully if we can keep the pace/tempo up Vardy will have a good future with us.

England don’t deserve Vardy. Criminally under used him. Their loss.

Any other nation in the world finds a way to fit him in.

I said on the Vardy thread (back in July) that he might be better to just retire from international duty and concentrate on scoring as many as he can for us. But that was because he was neglected by Southgate in favour of those who didn't deliver and it really shouldn't have come to this.

Also, most of the squad are very young and we need some balance in terms of more experienced players, yet we're still hearing this "No, we need to keep giving the youth a chance" thing. I feel Southgate (or whoever is writing the script for him) is trotting that line out way too much, to the point that it is just a derailing tactic more than anything.

I think of our most able and successful WC squads - 1966, 1990, 1998 (if Beckham had been more mature funnily enough) and they all had very balanced blends of youth and experience. Then the actual WC winners of recent years, same thing. So I don't buy this "making way for the youth" argument and I find it sad how little that is challenged.

That being said, I respect Vardy doing it in an honourable way. Really hope he has a blinder of a season as it will help push us up to a decent finishing position and simulatneously will be 2 fingers up at the international set up.

Fair play to him, England do not play to his strenghs anyway. Deli Ali and co never pass to him and he is played out of position.

This is great news for Leicester but must of been a difficult decision for him as he seems to be proud to wear the England shirt.

Why Danny Murphy is a football pundit I will never know so biased against anything Leicester.

Was their a dwarf called Twato in Snow White? Think panties would be about his level.

Richard Keys suggesting Vardy has no character, and will let people down later in life, because of Jamie's England decision.

Is this the same Richard Keys, who was caught nobbing a 20 year old, whilst his wife of 25 years was seriously ill in hospital?

Here are two great things he said:

“Tottenham’s fans last season were singing something about my wife in the jungle, within a minute I scored and they never said a word about me for the rest of the game.

“At West Brom I always go to the same corner after scoring. There was a photo from the season before, the faces are all the same. Their middle fingers are exactly the same.”
