Guardian.  Good decision, they don't play to his strengths and nothing is going to change that. May aswell prolong the successful part of his career with us and live the good times as long as he can.

I think it's a shame for him really that he hasn't had more game time but it's a mature decision and it makes sense re his family and focusing on club football.

England's loss, our gain imo.

the right decision whatever season he has he's got Kane, rashford and probably others ahead of him in the pecking order. plus England don't play to his strengths. more time for us so great.

Good for the club

keep him fresh

he was never gonna top that goal against the Germans.

2 years of meaningless international football before the next tournament, plus he plays a bit part which obviously influenced his descion

I can't blame him, he want to be more than a bit part.

The play time he received at the WC compared to the likes of Lingard, Sterling, Alli was telling.

It's a good thing for us.

Slightly disapointed he didnt wait until after the game at the King Power. Oh well Chilwell, Maguire, Gray and Maddison could be called up as they're already with the young lions.

Would've been great for him to have another crack at the Euros, but fair play. Can go out with his head held high.

Plus, it means I'll stop being an insufferable "Vardy would've..." bore in the pub any time Kane fluffs a chance.

Fair enough really, he’s been to two tournaments on the back of 20+ goal seasons. Both times we’ve been crying out for an alternative to Kane and neither manager has trusted him despite Kane not turning up for the first one and badly losing his way in the second.

Not sure I’d be volunteering to give up my summers any more if I was in his shoes.

I think his red did for any chances of him being picked for the game at the KP anyway.

So now is a good time.

Now to break the news to my boy that he won't be seeing Vardy in an England shirt.

makes sense for everyone. he wouldn’t have been picked for the next euros anyway with southgate basically already saying all the fringe spaces in the squads will be going to younger players to blood them etc, he doesn’t fit into that.

and even when they picked him they didn’t play him much anyway so never mind. scored at the euros, played at the world cup in one of our best world cups ever. good effort.

****ing great news.

Imagine that wasn’t an easy decision for him to make but you can’t question that every time he wore an England shirt in anger he gave it his all, just has he does for Leicester. A dignified end to a nice chapter in his story.

That is a really good insight into the maturity of Vardy, I know he is a bit of a hot head on the pitch at times, but those are the words and actions of someone who had a lot of respect for England and Southgate and but also to his family and club and had a tough decision to make.

Fair play to Southgate to,  no bitterness or recriminations, gave him time to think about it and respected his decision.

I'll be honest I'm a little disappointed, and I say that as a massive Vardy fan. I will never be able to comprehend the thought of turning down the opportunity to represent England, regardless of whether there's much play time involved. But that's just my personal opinion and I can understand Jamie's too.

His goal against Germany will be what I remember about his England games, loved that goal! SO glad I got to see him play in an England shirt at Elland Road in June now.
