Mature decision

will be hammered by the likes of talk sport for giving up on his country

Talksport already said that when he signed his new contract here.

Shame he didn't get more opportunities, fully understand his decision.

I do think it could be a little bit early but I don't blame him. Will he still be getting picked in two years time ahead of the euros? He's basically decided he can't be doing with the meeting up the squad, being away for away games and never really getting a starting place.

Striking options are ridiculously poor.

That is a really good insight into the maturity of Vardy, I know he is a bit of a hot head on the pitch at times, but those are the words and actions of someone who had a lot of respect for England and Southgate and but also to his family and club and had a tough decision to make.

Fair play to Southgate to,  no bitterness or recriminations, gave him time to think about it and respected his decision.

Southgate not gonna shoot himself in the foot, Vardy is the second best English striker in the Prem.

its just a shame they (Kane & Vardy) couldn’t play together up front

Never given a fair crack of the whip for England and nobody can really argue with that. Was he even once tried with Kane up front?

His goal scoring record and more importantly conversion rate whilst playing for a mostly average team has been exceptional.

I still maintain that if he had been playing for a top club he’d have been getting around 40 goals a season and the stats back that up.

I also maintain he could have scored less goals than he has for Leicester whilst playing for one of the top clubs and still got far more minutes for England.

He’s swimming against the tide with the current set up and it really would be a waste of his time to continue traveling with the national team.

Once in a friendly for literally a few minutes as I can recall. Maintain them pair in a front two would've worked in 2016 and maybe this time too, but we'll never know now.

Would have been nice to finish his England career at the KP in September with a goal or two, but probably the right decision.

If he wasn't going to get any game time at the World Cup despite how sub-par Sterling was playing then he's only going to start getting phased out in the next year or so. Such a shame but probably the right move.

Also means we get him all to ourselves!

He's never really fit sadly. I think he's always been quite unlucky with England, has never really fit the way we play or been given a great deal of chance. He was under-used in both tournaments he went to and I don't blame him entirely.

I don't think we're exactly stacked for options in this area though. I mean he's still comfortably better than Rashford.

Fck em all. Vardy was never used correctly. I get some will say he didnt fit the way southgate was playing but you change tactics sometimes to suit games. They didnt do that for vardy so it makes perfect sense for him to walk away with his head high.

A bonus for our club and overall i am happy.

As for the england squad relying on sterling to bang in the goals doesnt exactly make me feel confident.

Right decision at his age and with the competition at hand in the national team.

However, it ought to be stressed that it's not final curtains for Vardy regarding the England setup - there's still a chance he could get the odd call-up here and there in an emergency situation.

Hard to top a World Cup participation, anyway. Guy's lived a FM dream career so far, and I do wish him well with us and many more healthy years and goals to come. :fc:

Lots of variables in that comment,

Would he have got the same game time at any of the other league winners in the last 5 years.

Would better squads be so one dimensional in their style of play (a style that suited Vardy)

To simply say he would score 40 goals with better players it’s like saying he would flourish for England and that didn’t happen did it.

He's not getting any younger so the more rest he gets, the better.

I can't blame him, he want to be more than a bit part.

The play time he received at the WC compared to the likes of Lingard, Sterling, Alli was telling.

It's a good thing for us.

Meanwhile, he'll be performing much better than them in the league in Southgate will beg for him to come back when Kane is injured.

Very unlucky not to have been better utilised by England, especially in 2016.

Given his age and that Southgate is known for looking to the future, I think it would only have been a matter of time until he was no longer picked. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Southgate already contacted him and told him that although he'd still consider him for selection, he was going to experiment with younger players for the next few matches.

Good news for us, and at least he got to play at a World Cup, even if he was never really given the chance to really show what he could do.

Would've been great for him to have another crack at the Euros, but fair play. Can go out with his head held high.

Plus, it means I'll stop being an insufferable "Vardy would've..." bore in the pub any time Kane fluffs a chance.

if the manager isn't going to play you when it matters, then there is no point him even being there.

good decision, two fingers up to the FA.

Would have liked to see him at the Euros, as still think he is the country's 2nd best striker and wanted him to go out on a real high, with a handful of goals at a big tournament.

I do think that Southgate has a real eye on the generation coming through though and so Vardy is always likely to be a support striker, even in less important games, when Southgate wants to give time to younger players.

I like that he has kept the door open, if injuries means he is very much needed.

He did us all proud! It will certainly benefit Leicester too and he can focus entirely on us from now on.

From an England perspective, it is all about where a player will be in 2 years time.  Kane, Rashford and a couple of the youngsters may we’ll be ahead of him at that point.

from a Leicester perspective then next two years are massive (as every season will be).

Can only be good for Leicester City Football Club. I'm not at all surprised he's made this decision.

I don't think it's a good decision for England. Sadly he wasn't getting game time from Southgate - who is a myopic manager - and probably wouldn't have. However his strike rate is far superior to other England players and he offers something the others don't.

He has 4 years left with us so could easily have continued with England for most of those.

the right decision whatever season he has he's got Kane, rashford and probably others ahead of him in the pecking order. plus England don't play to his strengths. more time for us so great.

Though I’m not sure how Rashford is ahead of him. I’m sure it’s nothing to do with him being a Man United (reserve) player. ?

Feels class to know that he wants to concentrate on just playing for LCFC. Can’t blame him one bit. The odd time he’d get away with the family in the season and he’s with England getting 10/15 minutes for England flying all over the shop.
