In a way, yes. There are some similarities in the way that they play, sure, but what impresses me more is how both players carry themselves. They're both team players at their core, and like Kante, he doesn't whine or throw his toys out of the pram when something doesn't go his way, nor does he seek to put himself first.

From what I saw, Mendy is more like Gana gueye. Kante is one of a kind and its too harsh to compare, him (Mendy) to a Top-3 DM in the world. (especially seeing that they technically don't do the same job)

Like most on here, I think it's unfair to put that label on him. It's unnecessary pressure.

I am chuffed at the start he's made this season, though. I've always liked CDM's so to have two good ones is excellent.

We'll never experience another tackler and dynamic runner like Kanté. My brain couldn't stop seeing the obvious similarities, but Mendy's not nearly as good at these things. Still, a very encouraging display and I feel comfortable watching Ndidi and Mendy in central midfield.

Kante is the best in the world at what he does. Let’s just appreciate Mendy fornwhat he’s doing for us

Probably the only player in the world that does what he does.

Apples to oranges springs to mind.

Kanté was part of a team that achieved the unthinkable, no way is it fair to compare the little magician and his stats that season with Mendy now.

Mendy is the perfect example of all that's bad with football supporters. Plays a few games here and there over two seasons, never getting a continuous run out due to injury and therefore is very inconsistent, so it's, "useless, bin him". Then he puts in three good performances in a row and he's the next Kante.

Wait until he's had half a season of regularly playing in the side so we can make an informed judgement.

To be fair it's probably different people saying those things, not the same person or persons.

Yes, but both are making snap evaluations.

Trouble is, this is an internet forum dedicated to discussing all things Leicester City.  It doesn't really work if we wait 6 months to make an informed judgement.  There would be very little happening, so as a forum, really it can't help but be reactionary.  Foolish to expect anything else.

Foolish to expect stupidity?

Nah.

If you mix Mendy and Ndidi together you get part Kante and part Drinkwater,

They both share some of Kantes qualities, no single player can have then all

Full credit to Puel for giving Mendy the chance, who I am really impressed with thus far, all be it only 4 games. Hopefully, he and Wilf will help make the defense that much secure once Soyuncu comes in and adds that much-needed pace and mobility at the Centre of the back-line.  Things (finally) look like they heading in the right direction.
