Yeah this is weird. King and James are so close in ability there's basically no difference between them at this level, yet we name James who is consistently injured over someone who I can't remember being injured once in 11 years.

In your opinion..............

Puel's opinion is different, he was picking James to partner Ndidi ahead of all our other midfielders at some point last season. Puel obviously much preferes Matty James over King for the type of midfielder he wants.

Perhaps, but James isn't going to dislodge Mendy/Silva even when he's fully fit imo, so he's a backup. Surely from a backup you want to be able to rely on the fact they'll be fit and raring to go when you need them.

King's problem especially under the current system is that he's not an out and out  DM and he's not an out and out AM rather he's better in a 3 man midfield and we're playing more or less with 2 defensive Mids. a No 10 and 2 wingers.

Although having said that I'm not that sure where James would fit in the current set up as I don't think he's a good enough defensive midfielder.

Can someone point me in the direction of any specifics where AK stayed loyal to the club when another club came calling!

pro footballers are pro footballers. It’s their living. There are very few instances where a player turns down a significantly more financially attractive option.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Everton came in for him in the championship a couple of years after we won league one

Incredible amount of bollocks being spouted both here and on social media about this.

King is not good enough, end of. The guy wasn't even first choice when we came out of the Championship. Poor from the club to keep rewarding mediocrity and poor from King for not having the self-respect to go and play football every week.

Agree. He lacks the physicality, speed over short distances and high-energy game to be a DM - and lacks the high technique and speed of thought/action in tight situations to be an AM.

Where he always excelled was in anticipation, in reading the game and making runs either to intercept in defence or to make late runs into the box in attack. That role just isn't available under Puel and hasn't been for several seasons, really.

If he went to a club that played with 3 central midfielders, he'd have the opportunity to play to his strengths - and could still be a success in the PL (probably bottom half), I think, certainly in the Championship.

He's also a decent finisher, good in the air and a decent, if limited passer.

It's easy to forget that he was a consistently good performer at Championship level (42 goals from midfield in 5 seasons, many late runs from deep).

At that level, he did often play successfully in a 4-4-2 formation, but that was against lower-calibre opposition.

It would be a shame if his career peters out, after he contributed strongly for years. Could still contribute well for an upper Championship or lower-half PL side with tactics that suited him.

Love kingy.

He is a Leicester Legend for being with us from 1st division to Prem champions but I don't understand this crap about him deserving to be in the squad.

He is a good championship player, but he isn't good enough for a top 8 prem team. There is a reason that Swansea and others didn't want him this season and it's not just because of wages.

Give him respect. Remember him with a special place in our history. But move on.

Thanks Andy, You're welcome down the King Power any time.

Get a grip.

Bet you were in floods of tears when Kante and Mahrez ****ed off.

King is loyal to us, we should be the same. He's an international, lower end PL midfielder that has only ever done a good job for us and has always put in his best shift.

He deserves the utmost respect from every Leicester fan.

How James is in the squad over King is beyond me. I know who I'd rather have in there. King can always be relied upon for 100% effort, he's barely been injured in a decade and he scores goals. The goals aren't as frequent anymore but he'd still score 4-5 PL goals a season if he played which isn't bad for a midfielder of his ilk. James just never stays fit, even when he is fit he's nothing special. I get that the club is going in a new direction and I don't really see a future for King but it is sad to see. He's been here for the whole journey and it's baffling that Puel would rather have James n the squad.

I'd have loved to have seen King in the PL in his early 20's when he was fearless at driving in to the box and finishing.

I'll always be grateful of what's he done for us, he's been a great player to come through the ranks. He's arguably our most successful academy player in the modern era.

I can understand most reasonable criticisms of Andy King, but the one that says 'where's his ambition?' is flawed, bitter and downright nasty. Maybe, just maybe, he's that rare creature that loved/loves his job with his current employer - being happy with your lot is not something to be sneered at.

So glad I got to meet him very briefly recently, and thank him for his time - his reaction was warm and friendly, and I hold him in very high regard.

Sometimes I think footballers cant win. If they stay they are mercenaries with no ambition. If they kick and scream that they want to go then they're selfish with no loyalty.

If people want something to moan about they'll find it tbh.

People dislike players, managers or teams for arbitrary reasons, sometimes it's just because they're popular and some people are contrary.

Then anything they do will be interpreted negatively to fit the narrative that they're a willy puller. We all do it, I'm aware of it and even I fall in to the trap. Ronaldo dodges his taxes, what a twat he's a greedy willy puller. Ronaldo gives money to kids, what a twat he's only doing it cynically for appearances.

Basically, everyone's a pratt.

Because James is a better player, he's also three years younger.

Appreciate your concern, but my grip is fine thanks.

Were you not disappointed when Kante and Mahrez, both great players, left? Bet you were in floods of tears when Ulloa ****ed off and Simpson was dropped.

King is not loyal, King is a mercenary who has been happy to earn tens of thousands of pounds every week for years without playing.

But yes, you're right, I forgot the rules. No negative comments allowed about players who've been here for years.

I actually think king has been treated really badly by the club over the last 5 years or so. He truly had the potential to be a top class midfielder but harshly was not given enough minutes just as he was coming into his prime years. Truly sad.

Actually agree with that to some degree, I don't think he'd have been top class but certainly a bottom tier prem player, he played his best football under Sven and was basically our Lampard, think Nige stunted his chances of being a proper number 10 when he came back

He has been a great player for us over the years. More so in League 1 and then the Championship years, but also definitely played a role since we returned to the Premier League.

I have for a while thought that he didn't offer enough for us though and didn't make a consistent enough impact, to warrant a place in the squad. It's a shame that he didn't get a move this Summer and I can only speculate why that didn't happen.

He is a very uncomplicated footballer, which has it's benefits, but also (in my opinion) makes him a less attractive buy/loan for another club, and that's perhaps why he has failed to get a move.

I hope and imagine, that he and his agent are working very hard on a move away in January, as at his age, he should be playing football somewhere. I think he will end up in the Championship in January, maybe a loan with option to buy in the Summer kind of thing.

I wish him well, but i certainly don't see that he is or has been mistreated by the club in anyway. A great servant for our club, but we don't owe him anything other than helping facilitate a move away and a nice send off.

You could be right but at least you’d know they were actually  on the field and make a tackle . Something Kingy is all to often guilty of . Add to this we have Maddison to take over the goal scoring mantal  .

What an idiot.

Tbh there's no comparison. Kante and Mahrez were wanted by bigger clubs who will win trophies. 10 years of service is loyalty but, for me, it's different loyalty when you're trying to compare players such as Kante who were wanted by clubs that'll win something. If King had the opportunity to go to a side like Manchester United, don't doubt he would have gone (or at least looked at the opportunity closely, shall I say).

BUT now is not the time for all this. He's a hero for what he has contributed here and of course it should be respected.
