Regardless of ability, who's your favourite player, past and/or present?

In terms of my favourites in a more serious manner.....

probably Guppy, Izzet, Elliott and Vardy?  X

I can still chuckle at recalling how Elliot got booked (or even sent off?) for twatting Owen in one game, then a few games later he did EXACTLY the same thing to Craig Bellamy, and the ref waved it off. :)

To be honest most of that MON team could be a favourite of mine, I think I was at the right age and they were great times.  Flowers, Taggart, Theo, Savage, Cottee, all favourites.

If I dare to make a serious point for once........ I think age is a huge factor.  I think I was about 14 when he took over and 19 when he left and I honestly think that up until the age of 20 or so it is possible to really idolise players in a "hero" sense.  I met Elliott once and he was a monster.  He seemed huge and "a proper adult".  As you age it becomes more and more difficult to have heroes.  I love all the present team but it's hard for a "proper adult" to idolise young guys.  I think it is part of the reason for all the bile on this forum sometimes.  Old farts can't worship a 20 year old.

Honorable mention - Joachim, Coatsworth, Neil Lewis (for mistakenly thinking he was sent off at Millwall), Gunnlaugsson, Heskey, Schlupperman. I'm tellin' ya, I'm proper weird.

With you all the way.  He was world class in my eyes at the time.  Every goal was a worldy.  (The reality is probably that he was a bit shit).  X

Glad to see Muzzy on most people’s list as he would be top of mine not  just based on his ability but also what a great guy he was to meet.....A lot of the O’Neill team had visit to hotel in Dublin during an international break and a crowd of Irish based fans went out to meet them....Muzzy was superb , loads of time to chat with adults and kids alike and pose for loads of photos ( If memory serves me right this was the same trip that Lennon gained notoriety when in the wee small hours the following morning he relieved himself by peeing behind a parked car which happened to be an unmarked police car. A brief court appearance the following morning followed with a substantial contribution to the local poor box )

His autobiography is a great read. Nothing staggering in there but makes you feel nostalgic

Great player. Probably my favourite goal at Filbo was his screamer against Liverpool in the early 80’s. Almost uprooted the net

Yes what a goal. Also scored another similar screamer at Filbo against Watford.

From the past it has to be Frank Worthington (with Keith Weller a close runner up)

At the moment it is Vardy (because no other team has a player like him). Wilf is fast becoming a favourite also.

Also for another nomination between these 2 periods (and during MON's time and beyond, I would have to say Muzzy Izett (with Junior Lewis a close second hehe)
