Starting to think maybe we shouldn’t have sold him. He looks a good player. Hopefully we had a deal when we sold him that we could buy him back in future if he keeps on doin good.

He needed to play games and tbf he wasn't going to play for us every week. While I agree I hope there's a future percentage for us, we can't (or any club can't) keep a decent prospect without playing.

We signed him when in the Championship. Nearly all his game time until being sold to Derby was loaned out to other clubs in Championship. He never made the impact Barnes, for example is making at WBA. I saw him play at Reading first game of the season. Apart from a superb headed winning goal, I don't think that (currently) he is at the level to be anything more than a squad player. We are not short of  players who can play in a similar role to him; it was best for all he moved on.

It was a good sale. We got good money for a player who would never play regular for us. Compare his season to Maddison's and then tell me it was bad business by us. Championship will probably be his level, he's 25 in four months.

He is too inconsistent. At 24, he should be in our first team now, and he just simply couldn't produce the goods, with us or out on loan.

Derby was a great move for him, but even though he can score some worldies and have a stand out game here and there, I still don't think he will become a top Premiership player in his career, and that is what we should be aiming for with our recruitment now.

11 goals and 11 assists when at Ipswich was very similar to Maddison's last season. One went for £7m and the other £24m

Derby fans hardly rave about him, certainly don't talk about him in anyway that would make me think we should have kept him. Always seems to be a Paul Gallagher but a bit better overall to me.

Maddison is twice the player tbh.

I like Lawrence, he's solid, does score some worldies. But I think he's got work to do before he's really good enough to be starting in the Premier league.

It's not like he's 18 either.

Was at the game tonight. He was excellent, worked hard and scored a very good goal.

Think he was a bit harshly treated in terms of game time opportunities for us, but we are where we are and good luck to him.

Oh yeah, Maddison looks to be destined for the top.

Lawrence would have done ok under Puel. That said, it was the correct decision all round for him to move at the time, but glad he's doing well.

Maddison is top draw compared to Lawrence, miles apart. Seriously I’ve watched Lawrence quite a lot throughout his career (and lately) and in my opinion I’m glad we let him go. Decent championship player with a fantastic highlights reel BUT is weak in his all round play. Would really struggle to make an consistent impact if you put him in a premiership side right now.

It was actually 9 goals and 9 assists in the league. This is his standout season as last season he got 5 goals and 7 assists. He's 25 in January and hasn't kicked on and the Championship looks likely to be his level.

You've compared him to James Maddison who is three years younger which is massive at their respective ages and has far outperformed Tom Lawrence. Forget what they cost as Lawrence would be deadwood in our squad and probably behind the much younger Harvey Barnes.

Derby may even get their money back on Tom Lawrence if they decided to sell but I find it hard to fathom that anyone would think that us selling Lawrence was a mistake. It was great business then and it's great business in retrospect.

Apologies, I think I must have included cup goals. You can clearly tell he's unlikely to be as good as Maddison but I'd not be surprised to see him do ok in the Prem. He needs another good season though as last year was fairly mediocre.

The only way that he'll be playing in the Premier League is if Derby get promoted - if he wasn't ever playing for us nobody would think about buying him

Was signed as a good prospect after we got promoted and was never going to be chucked into a relegation battle that season! A good player, but wasn’t going to play with the squad we had. Only fair to him to let him move on and have the opportunity to progress rather than stockpile young talent and hold them back like a Chelsea for instance
