Chelsea Chelsea Chairman wants a donation for Richard Scudamore.

Recommended Posts

So Richard Scudamore leaves his post as executive of the Premier League in June and Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck wants all Premier League clubs to donate £250,000 as a going away bonus so he will get a 5 million pound pay-off why.

Scudamore earns a basic wage of £900,000-a-year, but his money rockets to near £2.5million-a-year with the bonuses he trousers for negotiating the top flight's multi-billion pound broadcasting deals around the globe.

The money would be better spent being ploughed into grass roots football instead or even given to charity.

So bad that Chelsea gets mentioned twice :P

It is absolutely disgusting though.

He's gonna get a massive pay-off as it is, on top of his huge wage he's been getting for however long, yet as a 'good-will gesture' from a mate, he wants 19 other club owners to chip in for one last big final pay-check.

I don't get how they can see this is logical or realistic to do?

As you say, grass roots football should be benefitting from this kind of financial boost, not to line the pockets of someone who's been raking it in for the best part of 2 decades.

It actually makes me feel sick.

Outgoing executive chairman Richard Scudamore will receive a £5m farewell bonus paid by clubs, the Premier League has confirmed.

Scudamore will receive the payment over a three-year period "in recognition of his outstanding work".

He will remain with the Premier League in an advisory capacity.

It comes after football fans urged clubs not to "stick their hands down the back of the sofa" and contribute to Scudamore's departing gift.

Scudamore - who reportedly earns £2.5m per season - is stepping down in December after 19 years at the organisation.

The Premier League's UK television rights were valued at about £670m when Scudamore joined the organisation in 1999, while the most recent deal was worth £5.14bn.

All 20 Premier League clubs were asked by Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck for a £250,000 contribution - something which fans "strongly opposed".

"Premier League clubs have always told fan groups that budgets are planned in advance and there's not a surplus of cash lying around from their extremely lucrative TV deal," said the Football Supporters' Federation (FSF).

"In the meantime, loyal football supporters continue to be inconvenienced by fixture changes to fit TV schedules, often losing out on travel costs or struggling to get to and from games in the first place.

"Now it appears clubs can stick their hands down the back of the sofa and find £250,000 at a moment's notice."

Leicester fury at 'arbitrary and excessive' £5 million farewell for Richard Scudamore
DAN KILPATRICK

Each of the 20 clubs agreed to pay £250,000 to the outgoing Premier League chief.

Leicester are the first Premier League club to break ranks over Richard Scudamore’s £5million golden handshake, describing the gesture as “arbitrary and excessive”.

Each of the 20 clubs agreed to pay £250,000 to the outgoing Premier League chief — sparking a furious backlash from fans.

The bonus, to be spread over three years, was not put to a vote and it is thought a number of clubs, including the Foxes, opposed it at yesterday’s meeting.

“Leicester City are against making such an arbitrary and excessive payment,” a senior club spokesperson said.

“We are not questioning Richard Scudamore’s incredible contribution to the Premier League, but a £5m bonus is not the best way to appropriate these funds.”

The decision to reward Scudamore, who earns £900,000-a-year plus a £1.6m annual bonus, for his 19-years at the Premier League was spearheaded by Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck.

Meanwhile, Video Assistant Referees are set to be used in the Premier League next season, after clubs agreed in principle to their introduction.

The League will now make a formal request to the International Football Association Board and Fifa.

So if we disagree and are against it, how have 20 clubs agreed to it? :dunno:

Or have I misread and misunderstood the article.

Also is it a case of not matter how much we disagree, vote against it we have to pay and it's just tough?

Pleasantly surprised our club have opposed this, considering their stance on things like safe standing.

I'm absolutely incredulous that the discussion is even reality. It's as if these people have no self-awareness at all. It's like something off The Simpsons involving Mr Burns.

They needed a 14-6 vote for it to be passed.
