Most underwhelming signing that turned out to be a revelation.

Surely has to be Albrighton. Villa reject on a free. Can’t say any of us were that excited about signing him, but he’s turned out to be an incredible signing. Scored our first ever champions league goal in the history of our club to name one of his legendary achievements.

I didn’t feel the same…. I always thought he was really good for Villa and couldn’t work out how on earth we’d got him on a free…. I was well pleased when we got him and was remotely underwhelmed…

if you started ‘I can’t believe we let them go’ thread on Villans talk…. He’d be top of the list, I’m sure…

Don't agree with the Vardy shouts. With it being a non league record transfer fee there was a real sense of intrigue. Never could've imagined he'd turn out to be probably our greatest ever player though

Kasper was a little underwhelming since Leeds seemed so keen to get rid coupled with the foolish niggling doubt that he might be overrated because of his surname.

Edit: Scratch that been back to the thread we had on here and everyone was ecstatic, forgot the Weale/Ricardo nonsense preceded Kasper.

Steve Claridge.

Wasn't impressed when we bought him & cannot really say he turned out to be a revelation.  Not sure if he ever scored with a clean strike of the ball, but what important goals they were

Waghorn's initial loan spell – quite a mergh signing but he was top in 09/10.

Didn't think Bruno Berner would play anymore than a handful of games for us, but he ended up being better for us than Mattock ever would have been.

I can link you to several that were as clean as a whistle...

Has to be Wes Morgan for me. Others have excelled beyond my expectations, but I was always hopeful they might do something.

With Wes I genuinely could not see the point of the signing, but for consistency, longevity and 2015/16 he’s now a legend.

I said at the time I’m very surprised villa let him go. Always been decent.

Tony Cottee. Playing in Malaysia I believe towards the end of his career, generally on his way out and turned out to be a great partnership with Heskey.

Steve Guppy, a after three successful years at Vale he signed for us in 1997. After a four-year spell with the "Foxes", he gaine an England cap, then he moved to Scotland to play for Celtic

Fuchs. Came on a free, and thought he just wanted a final pay day before retiring

The reason why he came was because he liked Nigel Pearson and wanted to play for him lol

Most of Mons players, did we really know much about Neil Lennon, Robbie Savage, Pontus Kamark, Matt Elliot and Theo Zagorakis? Others were Scott Taylor, he took a chance on Collymore & Cottee

Gordon Milne - underwhelming appointment as Manager when Jock left. A season later we were promoted

Good shout,  under valued manager in my opinion, exciting run in and after a difficult start to life in the top division had 3 to 4 good years went down hill after Hamilton took over. Had Lineker in his prime for us and along with Smith and Lynex had an exciting attack. Only downside for me was swapping Melrose for English but even that did not turn out too bad in the end, great times I fondly remember.
