You weren't the only one, pretty sure he'd had two top six finishes and been in the championship team of the season twice in three years before we signed him. I argued for him as Mills and Bamba were utter guff.

Didn’t we pay 5 mill for him and he came off the back of being Reading’s? player of the season. We soon realised that was all bloody hype! He didn’t get on well with Sir Nige either I recollect?
STEVIE B Posted 5 January 2019 Posted 5 January 2019 Pretty much all of the Premier League winners. Mainly a squad of cast offs/released players or imported lower league players .

ScouseFox Posted 5 January 2019 Posted 5 January 2019 wymsey just said esteban cambiasso was an underwhelming signing lmao i’m outta here, it’s still probably the most exciting signing the club has ever made
cropstonfox Posted 5 January 2019 Posted 5 January 2019 Matty Elliot ? Sorry been done miles back must read back threadd

That season after we won the league was extremely tough but he and Kasper were by far our stand out players, People still peddling this? I don't dislike SImpson, he's been terrific for us all told, but he was absolute chuff the season after we won the league, arguably one of the worst offenders.
RutlanderFox Posted 6 January 2019 Posted 6 January 2019 There have been oh so many that have worked out the other way. Nugent is possibly one to throw out there as well alongside some of the others already mentioned
ozvaldo Posted 6 January 2019 Posted 6 January 2019 Leo Ulloa. I thought Brighton had our pants down for what we paid for him. Turned out to be pretty decent. I had the same feeling when we signed Maguire.

Nah he was just shit and Pearson knew it. So everyone liked to exaggerate that as they didn't like Pearson.

I remember his hat trick away at Middlesbrough, he didn't even break a sweat! His 3rd goal gave you a taste of what he was capable of if he used his legs, it was the only run he made all afternoon... rest of the league feared him, when he was in our team we was getting more goals from all the players around him as well because of how heavily he got marked it left other players with free space.

Not just with him as well. Remember when Pearson sold Bamba and a lot of our fans threw a hissyfit. "waaaah why did he sell our best defender" and "whys he signing man utd youth rejects" "Pearson buys kids cos he cant work with big names"
Tielemans63 Posted 6 January 2019 Posted 6 January 2019 I remember being underwhelmed when we signed Lloyd Dyer. His career hadn't really got going until he joined MK Dons and even then it was mostly at League 2 level. I remember thinking that was a really poor signing and he ended up being one of my favourite players.
Danno Posted 6 January 2019 Posted 6 January 2019 There was a lot of hype around Kante, Mahrez and Vardy when we signed them, so they don’t really warrant a mention. I remember their transfer threads being huge. I was going to say Drinkwater but I remember we signed him after he tore us a new one for Barnsley.. so probably Wes. I remember thinking he was shit for about 3 months after we signed him. He seemed to go away and lose about 5 stone in weight and then turned into the best centre back in the league.
HitchinFox Posted 6 January 2019 Posted 6 January 2019 "Most underwhelming signing that turned out to be a revelation." Some good shouts mentioned already, so rather than parroting the Vardys, Mahrezes and N'Golos, I'll add a throw-back – Gary McCallister. McCallister was seen as ballast in the double-deal that got us Ally Mauchlen. And look what happened...!!
