Most underwhelming signing that turned out to be a revelation.

Danny Simpson for me. Thought we'd barely even upgraded on De Laet. Never ever thought he'd be a reason we won the Premier League.

IMO he wasn't really much of an upgrade on De Laet. In fact in today's PL, De Laet would be the better suited to play WB. He was simply a better defender and one of the smaller reasons that we won the Premier league.

I do like the way he keeps getting discarded and fighting back though.

He was a revelation against Sunderland. After that, not so much.

There was a game when we played Everton (I'm sure Gazza was playing for them IIRC) and he dropped back into midfield as he was getting no service, probably against the orders of the manager and he produced the best 20 minute cameo I think I have ever seen, including Mahrez when he was on fire.

I was also fortunate to have witnessed the reserve game where he got knocked out by Big Trev in the dressing rooms. He got so frustrated with Trev on the pitch that he started shooting from everywhere, it was a masterclass in shooting and their keeper was struggling to keep his 50 yard missiles out. He must have produced 4 or 5 shots that you wouldn't see watching 50 years of football, never mind 10 minutes....

Also broke his leg and it healed quicker than a scratch would heal on a normal person.

Bruno Berner - Was underwhelmed at first but he turned out to be one of most reliable players, especially in the League 1 season. He was like a fine wine maturing with age.

Riyad Mahrez.

I wanted us to sign a more experienced player.

I thought why on earth do we want to sign a total unknown? I thought he'd probably be another Leon Crncic, into the development squad before being quietly released a few years later and signing for Ross County.

Riyad Mahrez we signed someone in the name of kabijbi or something and never seen him make appearance I thought the same when Mahrez signed... We all know what happened next and its our biggest transfer for the sale of a player no one really expected anything from.

I think Collymore is worth a shout, especially with all mental health issues he had at the time. I remember many people writing him off before he had even set foot on the pitch. Turned out to be one of the most talented players to ever play for our club.

Without a doubt the exited I have ever been over a new signing!

I can't see how that makes the signing any more underwhelming. I'd argue Vardy was a more underwhelming signing. Unknown foreign player vs. unknown non-league player.

I always used to see Vardy popping up on soccer Saturday when banging them in for Fleetwood granted no one really thought he be banging the in for us for a prem title but still think Mahrez was more of a unknown

he was quite literally an accident.

Was a brilliant player, could use either foot and head a good goal, one of the best Centre Forwards ever, nearly as good a Frankie Worthington!

Leicester bought some great Scottish players in the 60’s and 70’s for low transfer fees Ian King, Frank McLintock, John Sjoberg, David Gibson, Bobby Roberst and Jackie Sinclair. Other good buys were Gordon Banks, Alan Young, & Steve Lynex. Not much was known about these players down here.

Danny Simpson.

He was one of those defensive signings that you instantly shrugged your shoulders at, didn't have the best of starts, got another chance, turned into a revelation, that season after we won the league was extremely tough but he and Kasper were by far our stand out players, he'll probably leave in the Summer but as the Everton game proved he can still do a job.

Yea I remember thinking we got ripped off buying him for 2m...

Esteban Cambiasso.

Thought he'd only play a game or something and leave the club early.

However was an inspiration, and his goal against Man United at the King Power Stadium will always be remembered.

Do some of you even realise what underwhelming means?

There's your answer.

I wasn't at all interested or excited by Kasper's signing.

All the money and hype Sven had built up and the best we could come up with in the summer was a predictable 'name' signing from Leeds - a fella who wreaked of championship respectability. I felt the same with Nugent that summer too.

Certainly two of our best signings and signings that were gambles, but underwhelming signings that turned out to be revelations??

Albrighton had previously looked a decent PL player at Villa but had fallen out of favour for whatever combination of reasons.

Huth had been a key PL player for Stoke but had lost his place through injury - and some Stoke fans didn't want him to leave at the time.

Definitely two gambles that paid off big-time - and I'd nominate Huth as the single most important signing towards our title win. But there was always a chance that they'd turn out to be good, despite being gambles.

Wes? Did any other club EVER consider him to be a prospective PL player, never mind title-winning captain? I just checked Wiki and he never played in the PL till 2014, aged 30.

Years back, I saw him play for Forest a few times - and he looked like a solid Championship defender, no more, no less. Biggest revelation is Wes......unless you count Nigel Pearson ().

Had shown promise admittedly but was farmed out to Wigan the season we won the championship who were bang average at the time, and don’t remember him setting the world alight there. Compared to a more glamorous signing of Cambiasso, it was underwhelming, but no complaints from me ??

Steve Walsh? 100k from Wigan can't say I knew too much about him when he signed turned out ok.

Taggart who was bang average to begin with.

Bob Hazell, pretty much turned round the season after he signed we stopped conceding so many goals. Again undewhelmed when he first signed.

Tony Cottee. Playing in Malaysia I believe towards the end of his career, generally on his way out and turned out to be a great partnership with Heskey.

My dad and grandad always say the same, iirc their reaction was pretty much "the ****'s he signed 'im for?"
