Vardy will take this very personally, he’ll see this as his job to get us promoted. He won’t go out like this. Just my opinion

He is the captain. I haven't seen him do anything to show leadership on the field. Perhaps someone else should've been the captain this season...

I hate to say this but if anyone still believes that after this season, I might just have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell.

Can we do an open top relegation parade just so Rudkin can interview Vardy on the balcony to ask if he's going to get a new contract and stay?

It seems to be an effective way to get employees sacked...

Think this will take more than a Vardy strop, the bloke is on one of the worst runs in the pl of all time only topped by McCarthy 20 losses from 24 and Paul jewel 15 losses from 17

I reckon RVN has his eye on breaking big Mick's record, to go with all of the unwanted records that he's collected so far.

He could be 25 but if he’s getting no service whatsoever then it doesn’t matter how old he is. He actually can still run the channels and run in behind when the ball passes the halfway line. Holding the ball up has never been his game.

I love Vardy, genuinely will be gutted to see him go but @Dickov22 is spot on.

He can’t press, can’t sprint past 90% of the CB’s he’s up against.

Hating the way it’s looking like he will bow out but it’s genuinely best for both parties if we put up the statue and let him have one last big pay day overseas.

I’m not arsed if he’s captain or not.

Still our best striker, bags 15 plus in the championship next season. Hardly his fault this season ffs.

Got absolutely no problem with Vardy staying on on £30-40k a week and being used like he was in 2023/24 (or even less) but if he's leading our attack as first choice when he simply cannot press then I'm afraid it's time we draw the curtain on the greatest footballing relationship the modern era will ever see.

Dan Burn could be piggy backing half the Newcastle squad and he'd still out pace Vardy.

His finishing is on par with Akinbiyi's right now.

Time to cut the crust off this shit sandwhich and stop hanging onto old memories. Vardy should be first out the door, you're welcome back anytime but you're in the stands and away from the squad.

To be fair you're not the rational one to listen to on Vardy, if you'd had your own way he'd have been gone under Puel. But we can't afford to carry a main player who cannot press.

At Championship level he'd still be a dangerous impact player and was used very well last season to maximise this. But this season I just cannot get my head around overplaying him, especially since the turn of the year.

100% but on relying on him this season it’s mad because the alternatives are turd.  Ultimately that is on who has been on charge of squad building over the last 4-5 years. Hard to replace him, but we’ve never even got remotely close.

He's been written off more times than my Mum's cars.

If he'll accept 30k a week and want to finish on a potential high than sign him up. Not a chance I'd back Rudkin to replace him with anyone better for 30k a week so I'd take the risk that using him in rotation like Enzo did is a better option.

We keep giving him another year when he’s well beyond his peak. I mean it’s very nice and all that but not exactly working is it. Yes he got a few in the championship last season, but then so would any striker on 100k per week.

He was excellent in 2023/24 and was used extremely well. His wages has nothing to do with whether he was going to be any good or not, not does it this season either.

Of course it does.

Any striker on 100k per week will score in the championship in a team that gets 100 points.

Vardy needs the right manager, he was a good fit with Cooper, and also as much as I love the memories and that he has been loyal to the club, his wages need to be part of the clear out.  But the thing is he is still our best striker, and this is showing up how bad our squad building has been.

If we are to sign him for an extra year, we really should be signing at least one new striker as well that is actually good enough to be our primary striker, Daka isnt it.  We have got rid of Cannon so he will never be it either.

Bit of a bitter and despicable post. Is it a wind up?

Very true ...  good players don't necessarily make good captains ... its more a personality thing and ability to get players going

His 7 or 8 goals, or whatever, still amount to one of the few positive contributions that anyone has made, alongside Mads' early form, and the glimpses we've seen from Bilal. No striker would thrive in this team, and while there's a valid debate about whether he stays or not, he's hardly one of our standout problems. It makes me smile to see people who have spent the past decade saying he's finished having their tuppence worth about this. I mean, eventually they're going to be right, but I don't get the eagerness.

Sounds like we will hear something soon. Setting up for a departure?

Agreed a 1 year contract extension on £1 a week on the condition that the savings on his wages finance severance packages for van Nistelrooy, Rudkin, and Whelan :fc:

It would be good to have his presence around the club it can only be beneficial, but if its on the condition he's first choice striker

No , it would be time to move on which is exactly should have happened this season
