Our best ever comeback?

Recommended Posts

With a couple of nights of completely against the odds comebacks it got me wondering, what has our greatest in-game comeback been? Obviously I’m saying in-game as League 1 to PL winners is pretty hard to repeat for any club.

I can’t think of many where the stakes have been as high as the last couple of nights, obviously we didn’t quite make the CL semis!  The Villa game is pretty standout on our title winning season, though I’d argue at the time we had no idea how much that meant that season.

Just wondered if any had standout games for them from back in the day?

West Brom away was surreal.

Spurs away in the cup where we scored 2 within the last 10 mins as well.

Villa away 4-1 ended 4-4. Circa 1995.

Arsenal at home 0-2 became 1-3 into injury time and drew 3-3.

Man united at home during the great escape.

If you're talking about 1997, then I think it went 0-2 to 2-2, to 2-3, to 3-3.

Aside from those already mentioned, Forest 2-3 Leicester in the League Cup in the rearranged game was cracking. 2-1 down in the 88th minute to win 3-2 in normal time.

We've certainly been on the receiving end of a few, the Wolves one will haunt me forever. 'Boro in the same season was pretty unpleasant too.

Yeah that’s it, I couldn’t quite remember the sequence but yeah the one with the bergkamp spectacular hat trick.

For me the cup game against Shrewsbury was our greatest ever comeback because of the need to replace Wallington with Alan Young in Goal and then Youngy with Stevie Lynex and yet we still came back to win. That's the most wonderful match I've ever watched.

Utd 5-3 stands out. At the time it was the loudest I'd probably heard the KP.

Over 2 legs, beating a huge European side (Sevilla) and making it through to the quarters was ridiculous. Again the KP got louder.

Beating Villa 3-2 after being 2-0 down with half an hour to go. Kind of set the tone for the season of how we should never be underestimated. Dyer lying on the floor knocked out not knowing he'd just scored the winner and sent fans crazy.

They're the main ones that spring to mind. @SouthStandUpperTier makes a good shout too for the sheer sublime nerve of us to do that and embarrass several clubs in doing so :D

Spurs away down to 10 men, can’t remember the year but we came back and drew 4-4.

A man down and 3-2 maybe even 3-1 down and Mae back to be 4-3 up, unfortunately Spurs equalised with the last kick.

great game though

Also just to show we’ve come in the last few years.

being 1-0 down in injury time against Bristol Rovers and winning 2-1.

only about 7 or so years ago

Swindon 4-3 Playoff final. I know we ending up losing to a poor penalty decision, but to pull it back from 3-0 down & not even looking like we was in the game was unreal

That sprung to my mind too.

The moment Steve Thompson levelled up at 3-3 was utterly mental.

Then another bloody dive killed us.

Here's an obscure one.

Leicester 3 Swindon 2 in 1987.  If memory serves, we were 2-0 down with ten minutes to play.  I remember Mark Venus lashing in the winner.

The following year we came back from 3-0 to 3-3 against the same opposition.

Just goes to show how important momentum is in football and sport generally.

Same here. I think for a certain generation of us this will always rank as no1, even though we lost. Absolutely unbelievable game.
