davieG Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 The oldest cup competition in the world is set to be broadcast on free-to-air TV ByConnor O'Neill 13:00, 15 MAY 2019 The FA Cup is set to be broadcast exclusively on free-to-air television from the 2021-22 season. According to a report published in the Times, ITV have reached an agreement with the FA over a four-year package from the start of the 2021-22 campaign that will guarantee a larger television audience for the oldest national football competition in the world. The move will see ITV join the BBC as rights holders for the competition, with the BBC having the rights to broadcast up to 18 live matches a season, in addition to the highlights and online highlights, while ITV will gain the larger package on offer and will broadcast up to 30 games as the senior partner. Under the terms of the new deal, which is set to be officially signed in the next few weeks, the two broadcasters will share coverage of the competition for the first time since 1988, and will both also share live coverage of the final, as they did from 1955 until 1988. The package for which ITV is believed to have bid successfully for is currently held by BT Sport, who have shared the rights with the BBC since 2014. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/fa-cup-set-aired-exclusively-2869180
Tuna Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 That's good. I dislike BT, their coverage, their pundits and commentators.

Voll Blau Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 Great to see. Just hope they can be a bit more reasoned between themselves about kick-off times and give the travelling fans some consideration.
purpleronnie Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 Remember cup final day on grandstand? the road to wembley, following the coach from the hotel to the ground, the player pre match walk about etc...its weird but FA cup final day seemed much bigger than any title run in or any European cup final...how times have changed.
RoboFox Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 Great news. ITV's coverage is miles better than it used to be, too. Now just bring back the Champions League to free-to-air.

Fox92 Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 Good to see. Hopefully the final gets moved back to 3pm also.
MrSpaM Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 Jeremy Kyle was paid so much they can afford half the fa cup once they sack him

Fox seen in Norwich Posted 15 May 2019 Posted 15 May 2019 Brilliant news. Excited already to watch us retain it ?

Cup Final day used to be our equivalent of the Super Bowl when every football fan tuned in to watch. The day Man Utd dropped out and it was sponsored was the day it started to lose its glamour. Saint and Greavsie Tony Gubba on the bus FA cup Question of Sport special Each teams song on Top of the Pops Jumpers for goalposts. Marvellous.

Live football being so rare played a part in that. The prize money was also a major financial bonus aswell. It could give a club a significant advantage in the transfer market. Now it just pays for Sanchez to plonk his arse on the bench for a couple of months.
