It's not harsh.

I get the wanting to move away. I understand that. But leaking to the press that you're depressed? Refusing to play despite being on obscene wages? And all this to force the hands of the chairmen, who gave him nothing but fame and fortune?

I can't really see how his integrity is intact after that.

Maguire is a modern footballer, why didn't he do it?

Hard to say. Better people around him maybe?

A better person likely.

I remember taking my Mrs to get an autograph of her favourite player. Mahrez had someone drive his car from the car park to the door. The only player not interacting with the fans.

I appreciate what he did here, he was wonderful, but the man behind the player I'm not certain about.

No me neither. Always seemed quite withdrawn from the fans. Will never forget his contribution that season though

Of course not. He is an amazing player?

Weird thread to start.

He was pretty good here, sometimes very good in his first season, but overall nothing more than above average. We're now much better off without him on the field and off it with the 80m it brought in.

Acted like a bit of a weirdo when he joined Utd. Whether that was him or his PR people we'll never know but I found it embarrassing all the same.

I enjoy rubbing United's fans noses in the fact that we've done them like a kipper with this deal and I don't think I'll be changing that any time soon either. Especially after they were giving it the big one about how they thought they'd signed our best player.

Harry was clearly a very good bloke, no ill will towards him personally, but the longer they flop the better for me I'm afraid. If they lose today and Maguire scores an own goal off his arse I'll piss myself.

As soon as they appoint a recognised top manager I'm sure they'll be back there in no time. But will that manager see Maguire as the CB to help them there?

Depends if Ed Woodward is still there.

Our defence has demonstrably got better without him…

Miss him in the air and that’s about it…

As for the allure of bigger clubs…. I doubt that goes away it just delays the process and pushes up the price

I said at the time and i'll say it now, other than financially I don't see why on earth anyone would want to go to Man Utd in their current state.

Financially it has a huge pull though and who am I to judge, fair play.

Same as Drinkwater (Although his career virtually ended/he retired the moment he left Leicester), everyone knew that, I think he's abit of a mercenary and not actually the bothered about playing football. Again who am I to judge though, fair play to him, he's richer than i'll ever be, who's laughing? He never seemed bothered about international call ups (Which at the time, I agreed with and couldn't blame him for) and everyone knew he wasn't going to play at Chelsea, I can't see him resurrecting his career at this level again.

Atleast Maguire went somewhere where he knows he'll play, in a top league (But he had that here with a potentially better future), even though I don't see Man Utd winning anything for a long time (Or potentially while he is there).

For every Maguire and Drinkwater there is a Kante and Mahrez who have gone on to get bigger money and win things, I questioned Mahrez's move, whether he'd play, whether he'd fit in, it looks like it's coming together for him there but Kante and Mahrez seem very career motivated, which Maguire does, so I ask the question again, other than financially why go to Man Utd in their current state?!

I just hope our other players, our younger players seriously consider potential moves, look past the pound notes (Easier said than done I can understand) and use formers players experiences as food for thought.

Agree...Though if we can from this season confirm competing consistently for Top 4, we can up our  wage -levels,und become a Top club for our 22 yr olds..

The younger BBone of our team...Maddison,Chilwell,Barnes,Tielemans,Ndidi,then a little older Soyu,Benkovic ,Periera, will have no Need to look elsewhere, go compete for trophies....."Don t follow the path where it May lead, make your own so others may follow".  To make History at a New potential Top club, carrys your career higher und further.....That should be their challenge...Also has a manager for B.Rodgers!!

We can then  ask the question..Why go to these clubs, and become just a number,

But Stay und like Lampard,Terry, become Legends for the New kids on the block!!

to secure the remainder of their lives having never to worry about spending anything and potentially their close family too ???

thats a pretty convincing argument ..........

Not thank you to Maguire. Thank you to the scouting staff for being some of the best in the business. We cocked up the 2016 window but since then we’ve been outstanding. Yes, the odd mistake but we have replaced:

Mahrez with Maddison and Tielemans - two quality players who are destined for major success and mean we are not dependant on one player to create. The fact they play or will play for major nations means they have the potential of being even better.

Maguire with Soyuncu - doing that business last summer was excellent.

Kante (who was, without doubt the hardest to date to replace) with Ndidi.

Theyve done a splendid job.

it will be interesting to see how they replace Vardy. For me, this will be there hardest job. Many teams lack a 20 goal a season player.

The scouts ensure that no player is bigger bigger than the club.

For all of those banging the Maguire made the wrong choice drum, if you swapped Leicester and Crystal Palace's positions in the table would you still be claiming Wan-Bissaka made an error joining Man Utd?

Harry Maguire is still highly likely to do more with Man Utd in the next five years than Leicester City.

Just like I was with Drinkwater I was also an advocate of selling Maguire for what I consider to be both their peak values. I didn't want to sell Kante or Mahrez but they had to be sold albeit for different reasons. At least recent history shows we're a tough club to deal with when you make a hostile bid for our players. Any clubs looking to buy our best players know that they'll need to get the big money out.

He has been blinded by money and agents I guess. He could of had another season with us and gone to man city ?

Yanited is a toxic club with a piss poor setup.

I've got no problem with Maguire leaving.  He played well for us.  We got a huge price for him.  He didn't mess us around  like Mahrez did.  And Caglar is a great replacement.

You can’t compare Maguire with the legend that is Riyad. He along with Vardy and Kante won us the league. What did Maguire do? Did he improve our defence? Embarrassing that he went for  £20m more than Riyad

Posted

At the time of signing him the other options appeared to be Keane, Gibson and Mawson. They've each had mixed times since then and could still improve but it's fair to say we got the best one.

I think the move was tainted by Utd not meeting the valuation on day one and getting everything tied up nice and early so that all parties could crack on, who knows, we  might have spent more of his fee had we had time and it wasn't ideal for either clubs preperations. It has worked out fine for us but as with the Drinkwater / Silva situation you're risking leaving yourself short for half a season, compromising your chances on each and every one of those fixtures. Also Utd and the agents using the media to promote the "Come on we've offered this much, little Leicester should just be happy and take it" angle. Great that we stood firm and didn't crack on that.

The whole situation is farsical where a club aren't supposed to approach a player (without clubs permission or until towards the end of his contract) but they can and do use the press to print Man Utd are set to offer a "x" year deal for "£x" a year and he'll wear the number "x" shirt. How is that not a form of approach?

At the moment  it's worked out for us and I do believe Utd will get fair value out of him, if he plays like we know he can for the next four years or so then that's going to be a significant improvement on what they had and some reliability.

Why was it a given that he was never going to play at Chelsea? Title winning midfielder that had been at Utd most of his life, had been one of our best players for a little while, arguably should’ve been picked for England, chance to play back with Kante. It didn’t work out for him at Chelsea but you can see why he fancied the move. It was a natural step up from Leicester and easily could’ve done better there. It is possible to make the step up into a top 4-6 player.

I just had the feeling he'd not get in the team, wouldn't break through and I think many others would agree with that, I believe it was the general concensus. Dare I say the cynic in me (And others that i've spoke to) says Chelsea mainly signed him to bring their quota of English players in the squad into line.

As i've already said who am I to judge if he wanted to have a go, try and prove himself somewhere else or whether he went for the money, fair play to him, but at the time and it's since been proven that his career would take a dive for the move, of course he could turn it round, get over his current injury and issues off the pitch, make a go of it at Burnley or somewhere else but that is down to him to knuckle down.

Has mentions Upping our own wage-levels,if we finish Top 4 ,would balance that out somewhat....but I suppose that bit extra, could entice them..!!!

At 22yrs,they could still give us 2-3 more seasons...Especially if BR, also commits...

He wanted to go. Of all the key players we had, he was the one Rodgers was probably most relaxed about losing. This time next year, maybe even this season, they might be above us again.

He's gone, we've moved on, not suffered from his loss and he's playing for the club he follows. If he regrets it or not, entirely up to him.

We do struggle with players wanting to leave, it seems.

I have said before that we will finish above utd more times than not during the rest of Maguire's career

That would also be an achievement....because unlike some,I See Manutd having a Good recovering season, and still at the end be challenging Top 6.

Maybe so... but I think we have a few years of top six ourselves

He did but I never felt like he was fully committed to us after the title win. Always had one eye on the door

The door to a bigger club with guaranteed Champions League matches. The only way we're going to keep all our best players is when we can guarantee that. Hopefully this season will be the start of a long relationship with the Champions League.
