As a young player looking to break into the first team of a Premier League team in the upper reaches of the league table, why on earth would you make that switch?

Ask his agent ..

... why have we allowed a talented player to go to a club we are looking to compete with down the line.

Seriously how could we fail to secure him!!

Told he could leave.

Because we don’t rate him?

Tons of reasons

Money NOW, secure the future a little bit considering professional football is a huge gamble

At least 1 year with the best youth coaching in the country

Increased opportunities down the line due to Man City's connections (think loans, connections with youth national teams, the favours Man City can pull in, etc)

If he can prove himself as a U18 centreback at Man City there's a good chance he'll see some fairly quick upward mobility seeing they don't have many good young centrebacks that aren't already part of the first team.

And that's just reasons to join Man City, let alone reasons to leave Leicester City, which are fairly numerous considering he hasn't made an app in a relatively long time for a youth player.

No youth player at 17 years of age is "looking to break into the first team of a Premier League team", apart from exceptions that prove the rule like Phil Foden, that's not how it works. They follow the route that leads to their best development. If that is staying at their current club's academy, fantastic. If not, move on.

Is it good that we lost a potentially good young player to a division rival?

not sure about that.

Worst case scenario, he's really good and we've lost him, in which case we have the good news that our academy is continuing to improve our youth players.

We pick up youth players from other large prem clubs from time to time (Arsenal and Chelsea quite recently) it seems to go with the territory. Nothing much to see here (apart from the click bait news stories making people think it might be a first teamer)

Absolutely. Very common for even the top top clubs to sell young players to each other. Can’t think of too many that clubs have massively gone on to regret. We’ve signed academy players from Arsenal and Man City in recent years who have turned out to be absolute muck. The chances of this lad being any good is slim so I’m not going to lose any sleep over him.

Maybe because every dicison arn't always based on football ability, maybe there are elements to his personality which does fit into the club's ethos.

Interesting that both us and Palace have let him go!

hadnt he only made a handful of appearances in his 2 years here, may not be as good as signing for man city would suggest. as some have mentioned released by two clubs in quick time now, suggests something more than money or talent there.

Academies need a lot of players, just because he leaves us and goes to man city dont mean he will make it at man city and we have missed a real trick.

That’s okay, we would have lost him for six weeks during AFCON in a couple of years anyway,

Yeh, still waiting for Musa to come back from the last one.
