Where are all the people in their cars going on Easter Sunday ffs? Or have we had a sudden explosion of medical staff needing to drive to work at midday?

I can't personally see civil unrest happening here, we're too nice for that, we normally take our anger out at the ballot box.

Off topic, but does anyone know what the longest thread on FT is? How many pages was it? What Grinds My Gears is currently at 1441 page, this thread will probably take over that by the end of May/start of June.

Are you forgetting the riots where someone put a shoe shop window through? We are savages mate.

There's nothing I can see about our situation that makes me consider for a second finishing the lockdown on any level. I don't understand why so many people seem to be so unconcerned if not for themselves their families, friends and colleagues.

I can't believe its even being mentioned, it's a bigger shitstorm than ever here.

Both myself and my partner will be on the road today. I’ll be driving to drop my daughter off back at her mums and my partner works for a haulage firm so needs to be at the yard to let people in and out.

Must admit I drove for the first time on Friday in about 3 weeks and found myself trying to pay more attention to the road - not the best time to be in hospital or use NHS resource unnecessarily.

I just hope others on the road have good reason to be doing so, but there’s a constant flow of people driving to the fields near where we live to go for a walk 😣

Sleep is one of the most important things in building up your immune system.

Which is good news for me.  And I believe I'm feeling the benefits.

The extra 1.5 hours I'm getting per night (replacing an alarm call for the school run and commute) is making me feel great.

Yep. Maybe the world crumbling around us isn't the time for a humblebrag but I feel like I could run a marathon at the moment. Touch wood, obviously...

So the reason not to do something like that is effort. With a possible vaccine not being available for about a year, and then we don’t know if it will be successful, we’ve got 2 choices, stay in lockdown forever, or separate those who have it/had it from those who haven’t and the only way to do that is test everyone.

....and if the tests are found to be ineffective? It could be a significant time before we get a really meaningful test as well, that is reliable, can be mass produced, and the results collated quickly. Prepare for the worse, hope for better.

I suppose it's being mentioned partly because people want to see some light at the end of the tunnel, and partly because there's now (potentially dangerous) talk of infection rates slowing, the curve starting to flatten etc. Dangerous as it might encourage complacency.

Seeing light at the end of the tunnel is all very well, but presumably it just means that the daily numbers of EXTRA people getting infected and hospitalised are starting to fall.....but that's on top of all the people already in hospital: i.e. the "shitstorm" that people like you are dealing with? It might mean that the shitstorm for people like you might lessen in a few weeks, if the trend continues.....but it will take time and continued self-discipline by the public.

In those circumstances, even if the trend for fewer EXTRA infections/hospitalisations continues, I'd be astonished if there's any relaxation this month. Maybe a partial, provisional relaxation some time in May? But only IF people don't start getting complacent, thinking things are improving and get socialising more again....

Well, while out on my walk I just chanced to bump into my ex driving our daughter to her Mum's (45-minute drive) for the second time this week.

Probably no great risk in their case as the ex-mother-in-law has a garden and last time they didn't go into her house, just sat in the garden at some distance from one another, washing hands frequently etc.

I imagine that quite a lot of people are doing similar things. But it would only take a proportion to be careless to bump up the spread again....

Fewer people on Victoria Park today, but Leicester usually seems to empty out on Bank Holidays, so depends how many are at home, how many visiting family/friends....and how many being careful!

it’s obvious - they should all be stopped and publicity shamed in the local press (apart from keyworkers obvs)

been thinking about this and your experience is valuable for those of us with no knowledge of what’s really going on ...... it’s three weeks since social distancing was introduced which probably means that we are currently entering the peak of NHS demand given the possible two week incubation and the subsequent 7 days onwards where cases deteriorate rapidly ...... but we need to take into account that during week 1 of lockdown, people will have been infectious from before lockdown and spreading the virus to others within their household..... so we can expect this peak period to go on for another 7/10 days at least and then another week beyond whilst the NHS staff are battling to help the worst hit try to survive their illness. That takes us to the beginning of may before we can think of daily numbers dropping below 500.

Second home ........ Which lowlife journo will be the first to mention it ?  (Yeah I know I just did )

I guess if you're leaving hospital it doesn't matter where you end up as long as you now stay there. The problem will be moving back to Downing St when he's better even then he'd be going to work. Simple.

Okay, how about, have you, and only you meaning don’t include someone else, had a fever or a persistent cough in the last month

yes=1

no=0
add up all the yes’s and we may have some sort of idea who has been infected with the virus.

could have had something like in the letter from the government we all received the other day.

I read it and I’m too dumb to understand the test positive bit, if it’s the same one

Lower in England today, hopefully that’s a good sign

Unfortunately  the Sun/mon/tues figures have proved less than reliable over the past few weeks ...... add in that friday was a bank holiday too and I think that five day averages are going to be the only way to currently assess the figures ...

Best place for him IMO. Not far from us, out in the sticks and no-one around. Better than being in crowded London I'd imagine...

It’s pretty obvious isn’t it? Downing Street is where his office is and presumably where other people continue to work.
if he is still contagious best he recovers somewhere more isolated.

Why should she stop? Most people agree with her opinions when it comes to crime and punishment. I get the feeling she enjoys the outrage as well when metropolitan liberals like Marr lose it so bad they falsely accuse of her laughing.

So much paranoia around at the minute and she's showing here she is more than capable of handling a press conference.

Bloody hell Matt, this didn't age well.

That presser was so bad it's become the latest meme. lol
