Wonder which newspaper will be the first to track down Jenny and Luis?

Leave them alone.

Went Tesco the other day and there was a guy who worked there stood at the end of an aisle. He wasn’t a shelf stacker or security just one of those guys who just kinda watches what people are doing. Anyway this woman went to go down the aisle to shop and the guy was like excuse me don’t you come any closer. She was like erm but I’m shopping and need to go down that aisle. He said no I’m social distancing and you can’t come closer until I move. Anyway he stood there for about 30 seconds and then moved a metre to the left so she could pass. Absolutely unbelievable scenes.

Power trip for someone who’s probably never going to have any power ever again lol

I hate these types of inflammatory articles, those that state such provocative words such as “could” and maybe”. Awful stuff.

Clicks over news, clicks over unity. :nono:

The wording is pretty bizarre, the French added all previous care home deaths in one lump so there’s no saying the government isn't keeping a tally to add on, being outside hospital I imagine there’s a little bit more admin to identify a case that hasn’t been diagnosed in hospital.

I hold faith they’ll be added on but if they don’t then you have you ask questions. We’ve criticised China fudging their numbers for as a liberal democracy you’d hold us to a higher standard and it’d be pretty distressing if it’s permanently excluded. It’s not worth inflammatory headlines now but it’s certainly something worth monitoring.

Bloody hell Matt, this didn't age well.

That presser was so bad it's become the latest meme. lol

Has it? I've not seen a single one lol Maybe it's just Twitter again. They had Labour winning in December lol

Back on topic delighted Boris is good and hopefully we can start to flatten this curve soon, its hit me today how strange it all is as I usually see all family at this time.

Agreed, fair enough.

Except Trump. He can and should carry the can for what's happening Stateside all the way to getting wiped out into ignominious obscurity in November.

lol FFS

The Chinese have covered this up, lied to the World, used financial influence to exert their propaganda in press releases via the WHO, murdered whistleblowers who tried to warn us, intelligence tells us the figures are hidden by a factor of 15 to 40 but you'll jump on here defending them at any sign of dissent.

Now we shouldn't mention of that but we can go at the big bad US?

You are a good guy Mac and I enjoy reading your posts but your Trump Derangement Syndrome is off the scale sometimes.

Trump’s measures have included writing it off as bollox for a couple weeks, refusing to issue a federal lockdown, then trying to rush lockdown along so business (more likely his business and special interest business) can continue. And that’s between refusing to answer calls to senators for support because he doesn’t like them.

It’s truly a best hits of awful ways to respond to a global pandemic. For all Mac has banged on about Trump you’ve banged on against China, and I don’t think it’s fair to say you have ‘China Derangement Syndrome’

I've no doubt there's truth in those first two allegations. Given the despicable nature of the Chinese regime, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some truth in the other allegations (in bold)....but do you have any reliable sources to support them?

Most likely the Daily Mail... The Guardian will be tracking down Po Ling because she sounds more explicitly foreign than Jenny from New Zealand or Luis from Portugal. Afua Hirsch has already done a 3000 word article about how migrant workers are being put in danger to save Boris's life and therefore we're all racist. Owen Jones is preparing a tweet about how minorities like him are treated like cannon fodder by the Evil Tories and how "My Jeremy" would have handled this crisis better. The Daily Express is scouring Facebook for anything Po Ling has ever posted that might her in a bad light out of context in a national newspaper.

I think the concern of the long term impact of the lockdown also has to be considered.

We can keep doing this for a year - sure. The government will spend millions on welfare, a pretty much the whole country will be unemployed in a years time. There will be no non food retail or leisure industry, most small and medium business will be bankrupt, shopping centres empty, landlords unpaid, and no money in the economy for the few that do survive.

The impact of this is profound, many hundreds of thousands would die from mental health/suicide. There could be mass civil unrest as people who have lost everything  are dangerous. Are we not concerned for this/them?

The only solution to a long lockdown is to suck up the unemployment, failing business etc and hope they will return 'one day' and for the government to pay every unemployed citizen a UBI of 30k a year - for a undefined period until employment returns - to ensure people dont lose homes, lifestyles - how do they afford that with little tax income?

The problem is far bigger than now. I also see little evidence the lockdown is achieving much yet anyway. Italy still has a high number of infections/deaths a month on. What gives?

Thank you.

It's alright people getting on their high horse and seemingly on some sort of power trip saying 'ffs just stay indoors', (which I and the vast majority ARE doing, by the way) but this is not sustainable.

It's a balancing act and we'll not be far away from the impacts of lockdown outweighing the deaths of a few thousand elderly and obese who otherwise would likely have died within the next 5 years anyway.

Everyone is doing as they're told for now but there will come a point that the livelihoods of the whole country will trump the survival of a few thousand already vulnerable people.

Okay, how about, have you, and only you meaning don’t include someone else, had a fever or a persistent cough in the last month

yes=1

no=0
add up all the yes’s and we may have some sort of idea who has been infected with the virus.

could have had something like in the letter from the government we all received the other day.

Nice idea but it's still too open to misinterpretation. Define a persistent cough, every minute, 5 minutes? Hot flushes vs a fever. Common cold, flu. You need a test to take away the ambiguity. There will be people who will have self-isolated on a false self diagnosis already unfortunately.

I’m pretty sure someone somewhere could define a persistent cough and a high fever but, okay, let’s not do that, let’s do nothing, it’ll work itself out in the end.

Like I said earlier today ...   there will be civil unrest.
