No political discussion in this topic. That is complaining about a country, a politician, a party and/or its voters, etc

Matty, Matt Matt Matt Matt. I thought we were going to have a full bodied discussion into your Preti's plan to overturn nearly a decade of Tory inability to punish criminals?

I hope you're not ignoring me. I could research into myself of course. But together we could illuminate so much more. I'm in favour of punishing criminals (crazy, I know) and so are you and so is Preti.

Let's do this, Matt. I'm ready. I'm game. I'm eager.

Pretty grim it’s taken this long for the Home Secretary to be trusted in front of the media. A relative unknown has became Chancellor and done better. If the Home Sec can’t rally the public and is only in her position with a vague promise of ‘punishing criminals’ then she’s not really cut out for the role is she?

Absolutely. The common theme at work is: 50's or 60's, fat, male, hypertension and diabetes.

Which Boris is plum in the middle of. But we all know it kills from late admission, lack of diagnosis, lack of resources and one to one care.

The fact almost 3 times as many men than women get this (or the version bad enough to be tested) is still quite baffling.

I've seen its even that way with children so it doesnt seem to be a smoking thing as was suggested early on in Wuhan.

Has anyone seen any reasonable suggestion as to why this is so? Is it a genetic thing? Like do men's immune systems naturally react more meaning their immune system is more likely to go into overdrive? Or are tbeir societal/lifestyle reasons for it?

And Asian? According to BBC news, 34% on respirators are of BAME origin.

Genetic link? Or a culture of multi generational households?

I think women tend to have better immune systems in general hence the 'man flu' phenomenon but I don't know if that would explain such a large discrepancy if that's accurate.

The most plausible theory I've seen so far is that the expression of the ACE2 receptor which the virus uses to enter cells is on the X chromosome :dunno:

The sex difference persists across ages and countries, so hormonal and smoking effects don't seem to explain all of the difference.

I take it there is a mistake in the bottom paragrath, as there are no results for people aged 40-59 or the first group of results was supposed to be 16-59?

I think the simple answer is that Patel is just a bit thick. I vaguely remember her muddling up 'counter terrorism' with 'terrorism' consistently throughout an interview not too long ago which was a tad grating.

And isn't she a bit dodgy as well. Something about some overseas Israel shenanigans which put her into the wilderness for a while.

That's probably why they've been so reluctant to roll her out in front of the cameras during this crisis, although it's hardly a brains trust at the top of govt at the moment, Hancock, Raab etc, and they're never off the TV, which really provides confidence that we genuinely have a firm grip of this pandemic.

It probably wouldn't make too much difference anyway as the questioning at the daily briefings has been so supine that anyone could stand up there and say pretty much anything anyway, without too much challenge from the esteemed fourth estate.

Anyway at least she's  a bit saucy unlike Diane Abbott so all is good.....

Surely if we're comparing Patel and Abbott for their mathematical gaffes then we must also point out that the abuse Patel is receiving is clearly sexist and racist as that's what Abbott's supporters always claim when she was vilified.

Well Geoff, it’s probably a good thing that most FoxesTalk posters on either side thought she’d make a shite cabinet minister and that line of reasoning is laughed at.

It’s just a shame that isn’t extended to Patel, where a Home Secretary who is only wheeled out to go on rants about ‘punishing criminals’ is hidden away for months during a scenario which requires a shred of human empathy. Then when she finally pops up and makes a fvck up all attention is brought to a woman who won’t ever be Home Sec rather than admit she’s a shite cabinet minister and is utterly irrelevant in the present time.

That's not really what we're doing though, one side is comparing how the different parties would respond and the other side is making it Abbot-fest 2020 where all the people jumping in to explain why they're justified to hate Abbott and list off all her gaffes is only reinforcing the initial point about double standards in apparent 'values'.  It's unbelievable lack of awareness tbh.

I’ve thought this for a while, as soon as there is a sniff that she can be got at, it’s like a pack of wolves. Shameful really.

Try putting that to the families who have lost someone to this virus, don't think they would agree.
