StanSP Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 I'm as distraught as anyone else we've failed to seize the opportunity to play at Wembley in a Cup Final for 20 years but let's gather some perspective right now. There are bigger things coming. A realistic shot at top 4 given we're 3rd and have a decent chance at extending the gap to 4th (let alone further below that) against an inconsistent Chelsea at the weekend. I've no doubt the players want to get over what happened tonight as soon as possible and as fans, we have to continue to give them our backing on Saturday and onwards. Now is not and would not be the best time to turn on players based on tonight. We've got people castigating Maddison ffs?! It's gut-wrenching to lose in such a fashion but there's still so much more to go for this season and so many positive aspects about our squad despite the result tonight. We still have the FA Cup to seriously compete in now. It's something we should definitely be focusing on and without any European commitments we have to take it seriously as we have the time to do so. When Europe comes next season it will probably go down in the list of priorities. But it's now that we have to continue to back the players and support them in this latter part of the season. No better way than to get back on track with 3 points against Chelsea! Time for fans to take stock of where we are and realise there's still plenty of time to 1) finish strongly in the season and cement top 4 and 2) still achieve the dream of going to Wembley again in the FA Cup!
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Fair but we've been pretty since late december and the signs are quite worrying now. One decent performance in about the last 10 now.
Stuntman_Mike Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 This really could see us implode tbf. Mentally we seem very weak. Hope I'm wrong.
Blue-fox Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 I’d rather win a cup than finish 3/4th personally.
LeeTheFox Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Our recent performances are worrying, how you can try and be positive after a result like that is beyond me, because I can’t.
urban.spaceman Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Nah we’re ****ed. It’s all over. This was our season and now we’ve bottled this we’re destined for mid table as per usual. I’m stepping back from Leicester City duties. Rodgers Out. etc.
Vestan Pance Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 I'd take out of both cups for Champions League for the next 5 seasons.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Thinkk today and recent games have showed how fortunate we are that outside the top three the rest of the pack are more or less wank It's worrying now that we are starting to perform shockingly Vs these teams recently. We are crying out for new signings now imo.
Desabafar Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 our fans are something else, either 0 or 100 and no middle ground, lack of level headedness.

That wasn't the point I was making though. 2 minutes ago, Desabafar said: our fans are something else, either 0 or 100 and no middle ground, lack of level headedness. Literally trying to be level headed with the post! 6 minutes ago, Stuntman_Mike said: This really could see us implode tbf. Mentally we seem very weak. Hope I'm wrong. I think that comes with age. To be honest, I think if we were mentally weak we wouldn't be in 3rd. There's only so much it can be down to 'other teams are shit'. It says a lot that we're not in that bunch of mediocrity and able to stand out above them. 6 minutes ago, LeeTheFox said: Our recent performances are worrying, how you can try and be positive after a result like that is beyond me, because I can’t. Oh okay. Let's all wallow in self-pity. That's the way to do it!
Suffolk exile Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Still so much to play for. Like everyone else I am so gutted to lose tonight (especially against that bunch of inbred half-wits), but we have pretty favourable tie in the FA cup and sitting pretty in 3rd. A win on Saturday would go a long towards making tonight's misery fade. Let's get behind the boys (apart from Gray, obviously......)
Blueman1967 Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 understand fans disappointment, it was a big game, but as the start of the post says, we still have the FA cup, and top four spot to aim for, cast you mind, to eleven years ago in league one, and how we have grown

Guest Kopfkino Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Of course it's not, the next 18 months are set up to be stellar. Tbh the emotional incontinence of this place is something else, makes me wonder how people exist
Ted Maul Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Lost me at continue to give them our backing our fans have been shite all season.

blueharmie Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 We've just been beaten by European champions who pitch invade a league cup semi . What a strange day. Life's good.

bovril Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 I'm a little bit concerned. We've got sloppy at the back, and in about 2 months in the Prem we've only beaten West Ham and Newcastle. But yes, we were unlucky tonight, and I still think we'll get top 4.
rachhere Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 I think people need to look back at their aspirations at the start of the season, which was discussed at great length. They were largely a good cup run and qualifying for Europe. And when people spoke of Europe primarily they meant Europa league. We are exceeding where anyone thought we would be, and Brendan has only been here a year. It took Klopp and Pep time to build their teams, despite the huge investment and underlying experience. It’s disappointing today, but in the grand scheme of things we are still ahead of target.

Just my personal opinion.

So our charge towards Top 4 is wank und pathetic, because we have actually stayed the same...its just the Teams below us are a condom Short of an orgy So our last months, and the positive changes, have just been a delerium caused by cramp in our thumb & fingers.....!!!
Hammo Posted 28 January 2020 Posted 28 January 2020 Tonight we messed up big time. There’s no getting away from that. But finishing in the top four is the bigger prize. If we blow that (given our current position), it will be immeasurably worse. The main focus has to be on the Premier League but I am really worried about the mental and physical fragility of a lot of our young players. That and the increasing exposure by other clued-up teams of some of our players’ persistent weaknesses (which Rodgers does not appear to be adequately addressing). Yes it’s been a great season so far but unless the team toughens up it could all end in tears...
